thoughts on student/teacher relationships?

Graduate students, maybe. Undergrads? You guys can barely deal with each other let alone actual adults -- but it’s none of my business. I’ll be there when your freshly graduated high school asses end up in court with a restraining order because you’re young and stupid and think it’s love to show risque-photos and text messages of the professor that broke up with you to everyone on social media and putting their job in jeopardy. ( ‘ snort, getting sent off to sit at the table to clear him from the bar )

Dating between professors? Yes or nah?

Listen, we’re allllllllllllll consenting adults, okay? If we wanna fuck up our jobs by dating each other and throwing our baggage around until we break up and make faculty meetings awkward, then let’s do that. ( ‘ somehow persuaded someone to buy them a beer after he was cut off by the bartender ) It’s none of my business until you hire me or you date me. Just sayin’.

what do you find attractive about being a professor?

Me. ( ‘ half turning towards the stranger, a wink a trail of his tongue to the corner of his lips, a chuckle finding its way out of his mouth with his head tilted upwards for a moment. A closing of his eyes for a brief second and he’s finally drinking the water without spitting out in surprise ) Some stupid kids here and there, I guess.

What's the worst drunken decision you've ever made that you regretted as soon as you got sober? : )

Ha! I’ve got a lot of those. ( ‘ makes a face that indicates that he can remember quite a few, pursing his lips and taking the cup of water he was handed. His finger follows the rim of the plastic cup. ) There was this one time, back home in China, this dude literally thought he could -- ( ‘ blows air out of his mouth as he remembers it, shaking his head ) -- crazy. ( ‘ drinks the water, almost spits it out ) What the fuck is this?

three things you like about dance?

( ‘ long inhale through his teeth, hands in his hair as he’s trying his best to concentrate on these questions. He’s still trying to convince the bartender that he’s okay for a few more. ) Ah-- shit. I like -- the dancing part. I also like... ( ‘ wets his lips, leaning back with a tilt of his head ) ... did I say dancing? Yeah, I like the dancing.

what's your night time routine?

( ‘ hums, raising a finger ) Go to my office and look at the papers I need to grade and not do them. ( ‘ second finger ) Go to the bar.  ( ‘third finger ) If it’s a weekday, buzzed, if it’s a weekend, drunk. ( ‘ fourth finger )  Go to Sory’s for dinner. ( ‘ fifth finger ) then go home, shower, and sleep. Rinse and repeat. Pretty good, right?

Would you change anything in your past, if given the choice?

Would I change anything in my past...? ( ‘ holds onto the edge of the bar, sucking his lower lip and letting his eyes fall to the ceiling. There would always be things he’d want to change. ) Hell yeah. I wish I never came to this fucking school for my undergrad and graduate degree. It could have really saved me the trouble, ya know, in here and whatnot. ( ‘ points to his heart )  I can’t believe I work there. God has a sick sense of humor.

Sorry gambling chips only, do you enjoy gambling? If so, high stakes, all in or little by little?

High stakes and all in. ( ‘ pats the bar counter like a drum for a quick second. ) What’s the point of gambling if you’re not going to put yourself out on the line? Where’s the thrill? If you’re going to baby your money the whole time, stay home, kiddo. Gambling is for the big boys.

Thoughts on Professor Lahiri?

She’s a foreign beauty with a fantastic voice. ( ‘ taking a small napkin to wipe at his fingers and his mouth, staring down at the cheese residue for a moment - spacing out ) And uh-- how she puts up with me, I’ll never know, but she does and for that, I can say I like her a lot. Besides, she covers dance practice for me from time to time as long as I take her out to dinner so, I say, it’s a win-win relationship.
