Except y'know Casey's been singing for a long time. Singing some of the songs I'm sure you love unless you're just a cynical jerk. A lot of the greats didn't have formal training. You're a goddamned vulture looking for any reason to hate the team.

My older sister has an absolutely beautiful singing voice and has been singing all her life. She’s heard many of my composition and songs. But she has no experience with either composing or lyricism, so if I was working on a soundtrack, I probably wouldn’t let her work on either. By the same coin, despite experience with composition and songwriting, it’s best I don’t record myself singing. As for me being a vulture looking for any reason to hate the team, I used to feel bad about poking fun at the OST because Jeff seemed like a genuinely nice dude, but the more I learn about him the more I feel vindicated. The man goes on Facebook and brags about his sports car, his timeshares, his jet skis, etc. He claims he’s better at guitar solos than the guitarists of Metallica. He once threatened to block someone because they asked a genuine question about composing. I don’t pick on nice people.

No. You can’t do that. You can’t apply your logic to one thing and not another, when the idea is still the same. In either case, there is a victim, and the one who committed the crime. You can’t say that one is a victim and one isn’t. Both are victims, no matter how you slice it.

But let’s leave that aside. Yes, the person posted their art, their property, to a website to show to others. Not for them to steal it. To view it. It doesn’t matter how easy it is to take it, and it DEFINITELY doesn’t matter if he or she is paid for it. It’s still their work, and someone still took it and used it without permission. This person took time and effort to make something, and it was used by someone else. That’s not okay.

And by saying that the artist didn’t take the necessary precautions and that makes it their fault is wrong. Period. You can take as many precautions as you want. Things still happen.

Ok, I see I'm not shining enough light on the other side. I'm not talking about the incident, I'm talking about what could (and should) have been done to prevent the incident. Which before the incident happened, yes, it's the authors fault for not keeping their work safe from being stolen. Sure, it's a shame it got stolen, we can only wish everyone was as honest as us and ask permission for its use. The facts are, that not everyone is like us, people steal, and do stuff without others permission. So why are people suddenly surprised when it happens? I mean it was bound to happen sooner or later. Do you know what Graphic Designers do when they sell their work? Yes? No? They watermark their work to prevent it from being stolen by someone else and having their copyright taken away. Picture places do this too with proofs before purchase. So unless the author was selling their work, it's technically not theft, but it morally still is. This isn't my opinion either, this is just the way stuff works at a basic level. Now, don't get me wrong, what the person did wasn't the right thing to do, they should have asked the author for permission before even thinking about using it. That is the risk you run when you don't want people to take your stuff but you don't do anything to protect it from being used.

First off - you haven’t credited any of the artists used, and since you cropped the images it would take a long time to find the correct sources.

This isn’t an issue for you, since you edited them in the first place which means you *know* the sources.

Pyrrha image belongs to numilktea, I know that much.

You presumably did not ask any of these artists for permission to use their art in any way, which means this is basically illegal.

Add the sources and ask the artists - all of them for permission.

Or just take it down.

It is not the artists job to do anything. They shouldn’t need to change or add anything to their work to deter it from being reposted, because it shouldn’t be stolen in the first place.

Artists put watermarks on their art BECAUSE their work has been stolen before. That shouldn’t happen at all, but it does.

The artists in this piece weren’t asked, they weren’t notified, they probably don’t even know that this person has taken something they spent hours and hours working on - something they love and enjoy - and cropped out half of their hard work, thrown them into a halfassed border, added some pretty letters and then posted it to tumblr WITHOUT CREDITING ANY OF THEM.

This is art theft. Simple as that.

By your logic, nobody should post anything unless they’re fine with it being stolen and them not receiving credit for it.
