The Origins of Shadedclan
Deep in a protected mountain cave rests the formidable dark-furred cats of Shadedclan.
Nocturnal hunters, who are the most comfortable in the shadows, the cats of Shadedclan, have lived by strict laws so that the clan can survive in the treacherous mountain territory and its many ruthless predators.
In The Beginning:
Only cats with dark-colored pelts were allowed to join Shadedclan. Light-colored kits born to Shadedclan queens were promptly abandoned, as their pale fur would attract the eye of predators and endanger other members of the clan.
Cats with white patches in their fur are allowed to remain but must cover their lighter parts with mud or dark feathers.
The practice of abandoning/culling pale kits was ended after Honeystar's life was saved by Pinkie Pie, a kittypet with white fur who had developed healing knowledge after fleeing his cruel twoleg.
Pinkie Pie joined the clan as the new medicine cat at the insistence of Honeystar.
From then on, the laws changed.
Culture and Practices:
Pale-furred kits are no longer culled. Instead, their white pelt is seen as a sign of their closeness with Starclan and is considered" Moon-touched."
They are always to be trained as medicine cats, regardless of skill or interest.
When cats lose a loved one (parent, lover, child, friend), they typically change their name to take on a part of their loved one's name as a tribute in their memory, keeping a part of the lost cat with them.
Example: After Ivyflick died, her daughter Shadowcall changed her name to Ivyshadow in honor of her mother.
