Scene 1 âThe awakeningâ
Int. Ollieâs Room â Morning
Fade in to a shot of the calendar; itâs dated 12th march 2015. OLLIE wakes up in his room like any other day and starts to get ready, Tiredly, he walks downstairs, picks up his bag and leaves.
OLLIE walks along minding his own business. A FEMALE VOICE inside OLLIEâS head interrupts his thoughts; he thinks he's overhearing the start of a conversation of two passers-by.
Must have been someone Iâve walked past
OLLIE carries on like nothing happened.
He walks into a park; he hears the same voice again.
(slightly louder and clearer)
OLLIE looks around to see if anyone was trying to get his attention, but everyone else was consumed in their own lives. He shrugs and goes about his business.
A pain runs through OLLIEâS head, he winces, turns around and looks at the nearest passer by.
The customer glares at him. OLLIE feels uncomfortable and walks out of the shop.
OLLIE starts walking towards his home.
OLLIE gets startled at how clear the voice in his head is.
That, you...the voice in my head.
The last sentence sent a spike of pain through OLLIEâS head.
Iâm sorry, I didnât mean it like that.
OLLIE enters his house. Fade to black.
     Scene 2 âClosing the voidâ
Fade in â The Next Day.
OLLIE sits on a bench in front of a lake on his own, in silence, staring at the water.
Yeah Iâm here, finally talking to me now?
Iâm sorry, I just got fed up with either being ignored or looked at like Iâm a rare animal or object.
Itâs fine. (sarcastically) Not that I can see you anyway.
Silence consumes the scene for a few seconds.
ALICE fades in sitting next to him on the bench, watching the trees and birds. The screen is split vertically and the right side of the frame is slightly discoloured.
This, talking in our heads
OLLIE gestures towards his head and touches his temples.
You get used to it eventually. (Pause) Are you worried?
The world seems to stop moving as the voice over becomes diegetic.
A little, thereâs no way to tell if youâre real.
You believe in what you see?
Me too but, somehow, I know youâre real and youâre a quick learner, I mean, youâve figured out how to control what you say to me.
The world starts to move again and the conversation goes back to voice-over. OLLIE stands up and leaves the park making his way home. ALICE does the same.
The two walk down different streets but the screen is still split.
Yeah I canât tell what youâre thinking any more, you must be getting used to this.
Not really, itâs still strange to me.
Give it time, itâll become second nature soon enough.
Thatâs what Iâm scared of.
The two walk up to separate doors. Ollie unlocks his and walks through, closing it behind him.
 Scene 3 âAm I insane?â
Int. OLLIEâs house â Morning
Fade in on calendar; date is 12th of April 2015.
OLLIE exits his house and starts making his way to the therapist office.
Ollie, are you okay? (Pause) Talk to me.
ALICE becomes slightly panicked.
OLLIE enters the therapist office; everything goes silent.
Int. Therapist Office. Day
The THERAPIST notices OLLIE walk in and goes to greet him.
Fine. Mind if we get straight to it?
OLLIE walks past the THERAPIST and enters into the back room, sits on one of the chairs set next to a large window. The THERAPSIT sits in the chair opposite OLLIE; the session begins.
Do you feel any better since the last time we met?
Not really, still the same.
OLLIE shifts uncomfortably, looking like he has something to say.
Umm... I don't quite... it's hard to say...(takes a deep breath.)
Ollie, what are you thinking?
Okay...this is going to sound weird...I can hear a voice in my head.
What does this voice sound like?
OLLIE winces at the pain running through his head.
OLLIE stands up aggressively, starting to emotionally break.
I can't take this! Get out of my head!
ALICE is pacing around her room in a fit of anger, mixed with worry and sadness.
 Scene 4 âSlow descentâ
OLLIE is back in the park sitting on the bench, looking at the water again.
Itâs been a while since weâve spoken about this⌠I feel more confident now.
ALICE appears next to OLLIE on the bench. This time looking down at the water. The two mirror each other
Thatâs good to hear but it still hurts
Iâm sorry, but it didnât feel right. Can you imagine the thought, the fear of being insane?
No, and nor do I want to. Thatâs a horrible thing to think about
Itâs worse going through it, trust me. At least itâs good to know Iâm normal; never thought Iâd say that.
Well now that youâre more comfortable with your sanity, maybe you can stop going to therapy. That guy creeps me out.
No. why would I stop? Iâve come so far. And whatâs creepy about him? Heâs fine.
Thereâs something strange about him. Heâs dangerous.
A small rift in the air appears just above the point where the water meets the land. ALICE is the first to notice.
ALICE points at the rift forgetting that OLLIE canât see her.
ALICEâS reflection appears in the water behind the rift.
ALICE waves at the water and OLLIE sees this in her reflection
OLLIE blinks to clear his head
sorry itâs just thatâŚ
Itâs okay, I donât get that very often. Thank you.
The reflections fade. OLLIE gets up and walks off screen. ALICE examines the rift for a short while and then gets up to walk home.
In OLLIEâS world, the THERAPIST comes out from hiding behind a tree and looks at the rift before he pulls out a phone.
Sir, we have a situation.
