Had a long, cry worthy day so I took some time in front of the wheel with that Polwarth I was wanting to spin and my sweet dog joined in.
I wrapped up my first bobbin and promptly realized I don’t want to do my original plan. So I think I’m going to chain ply the singles I just spun once they’ve rested and immediately start spinning this beautiful braid of polwarth I’ve had in stash for years. It’s very clear the spinning bug has bit me while all the crazy life stuff is going on.
I’m literally in the middle of one of the craziest times of my life and yet I decided to sit at my wheel and start a combo spin with some dyed Falkland. Here is to hoping I finish this braid before I have to pack up my wheel.

I feel so insane about ai. I've had face-to-face conversations with people who use it for therapy, who use it to calculate the safety of pill interactions, who use it for all their emails and grant applications and legal documents and academic papers and finance sheets and for every single question they have about the world, and if you tell them about the ecological costs they just laugh and say "I guess I've used a lot of water." and I've been in multiple gatherings of 10+ people where I'm THE ONLY PERSON who doesn't use chatgpt. it's turning me into a ranting raving pariah, because how don't you people see??? why don't you understand??????? this bullshit didn't exist five years ago, you absolutely do not need it, and it is destroying everything
The note inside a bullet.
B-17 bomber is riddled with German anti-aircraft fire but miraculously survives. Later they discover the explosive shells were all inert; sabotaged by Nazi slaves working in armament factories.
Inside one empty shell is a written note: it's all we can do for you now.
The most important part of all this is that these small acts of bravery and noncompliance cannot be known as long as the enemy still stands, and might never be known. Just because it doesn’t seem like anyone is doing anything doesn’t mean it’s true. The best malicious compliance or subtle sabotage is the one that’s never detected, but makes ravages nonetheless.
A critical part of any resistance is
Do not post your crimes
Do not brag. Do not look for brownie points. Do not publicly recruit. Keep your mouth shut.
If you live in the USA and you're pleading for donations to pay your rent, bills, or get food then dial 211! Please dial 211 before the last minute!
It's a toll free service with people who will help you find programs in your community to pay those bills, find food, and find housing! They will give you numbers to call so you can get help.
It is not 100% foolproof. Their job is to direct you to a program they believe will help your current issue, but it's still a step up from praying random strangers online will give you enough cash before a deadline! The added benefit of these community programs, which get funded by the local government most of the time, is if there are more people using them then they can get more money to help more people.
You're not taking resources from other people if you use your community services. Your taxes pay for them. Use them.
Dial 211 first to see if they can help, and if for some reason they can't, then make your donation posts!

Hi I work for my state's 211 service. It really breaks my heart how many people only know to call us at the last minute. 211's can provide a whole wealth of resources to use before things ever get to a cut off utility, eviction, or homelessness!
I can't speak for all 211's but most should also have a website detailing all the agencies in their database. if you don't like phone calls, this can be something to reference instead.
If you don't have health insurance but you need to see a doctor, reference 211! We list clinics that provide free or discounted general care, vision, and dental services to low income households and people without insurance! Many hospitals also have financial aid policies that can severely reduce your bill if you had an expensive procedure!
If you're stuck in a dead end job or need educational resources reference 211! There are a lot of programs focused on providing basic adult education as well as trade skills or other high demand fields! State governments are generally more interested in funneling people into work than providing benefits, but you can still use this to your advantage especially if you have some form of disability but are still able to work. That includes if you're neurodiverse or have mental health issues! Most of these programs are extremely underutilized.
If you believe you qualify for public benefits but the bureaucracy of the process is in your way, reference 211! There are agencies specifically geared towards helping people obtain the benefits they qualify for- for free!
If you need help with your taxes-
If you need help finding a pro bono lawyer-
If you need help finding affordable housing/section 8 housing-
If you need help finding food pantries-
If you need help paying for your prescriptions-
If you need help obtaining disability aids or assistive technology-
If you need help finding transportation options-
If you need help following a natural or personal disaster (like a home fire)-
If you need help repairing a home you or your family owns or it needs modifications to be accessible-
If you need Queer resources-
Reference your 211!!!!!
I had no idea what 211 was before working for it but I wish I had. I've learned so much about what resources are actually available to the community even in a ho hum area of the country like my state. I've saved my partner literally thousands of dollars just from the medical resources I've gathered.
Not enough young people know about or utilize these services but they are there for you!
P. S.
This isn't an intended use of 211, but I like to reference the agency listings when I look for jobs. Many of the agencies listed are non-profits which, while they certainly are not perfect, generally have lower barriers of entry to decent paying jobs with benefits. The work environments tend to be much kinder and at least pretend to be forward thinking. You're more likely to find jobs without as many people applying as well, especially if they're only advertising their positions through their own website.
Get help paying bills, finding food, and locating other resources near you. Call 211 now for confidential help from a caring expert.
Oh my goodness. Sharing this because maybe your state has something to help you see a dentist! If it's been a while, please see I'd you have any dental services in your area. It's really so important to see a dentist.
I recently sent this to a friend caring for a relative because caregiver resources is also something they can assist with!

I haven’t sat at my wheel since I became disabled honestly. Which was easily three years at this point maybe? I took some time last night cleaning out my spinning corner and my basket before sitting at my wheel to ply some old bobbins for an hour or so. It was so refreshing and relaxing, especially after I grabbed my dog her bed so she felt included long enough to sleep while I worked. I already have dreams for a future spin once this bobbin is completed. I’m kind of surprised by my self.
In 1850, a farmer found a secret village. It was later determined to be older than the Great Pyramids of Egypt. Archeologists estimated that 100 people lived in this village named Skara Brae, the "Scottish Pompeii." The houses were connected to each other by tunnels, and each house could be closed off with a stone door.
One of my absolute favorite artifacts, the Skara Brae Buddo is from here!
This super cute figurine is from aprox. 2900–2400 BC, and one of the handful known figurines from the British Neolithic.
The figurine got its name when it was rediscovered in 2016: “Buddo” is an Orcadian word, a term of endearment and isn’t gender-specific. In the Neolithic most human figurines represented the feminine, often believed to be the goddesses of fertility and/or beauty, so this figurine is quite unique as it doesn’t have gendered features!
There’s a hole on each side, so it’s most likely that it was suspended (inside the home or as some kind of body ornament).
Its purpose is widely argued, some beleive the figurine to be a child’s toy, but it easily could’ve been an ‘idol’ or ‘fetish’ (= meaning it had a ritualistic and religious role).

the weed dispensaries should ask if you would like to round up your purchase to donate to PBS. and if you say yes you get to scan a QR code that gives you 30-day free access to the full run of antiques roadshow. this is how drugs can win the war on drugs again.
IMPORTANT PSA! If you contribute to PBS or any local public broadcasting subsidiary at $5/mo ($60/yr) or above, you gain access to PBS Passport, which has a tremendous library of public broadcast programs available…including the full run of antiques roadshow
Highly recommend subscribing to PBS Passport. Nova, Antiques Roadshow, Masterpiece Theater, Masterpiece Mystery, Julia Child, American Experience! And so much more!
No commercial breaks, awesome shows, and “support provided by viewers like you” will mean You!
10/10 recommend.
I’ve done very little work on this vest since my last post, but in the last week I have been picking it up to knit a row or two. Which has been nice. A lot of my medical stuff has taken a massive dip and the stuff that was working is no longer helping. So I’ve seen a huge drop in interest in things like my knitting so sadly this project has sat in its project bag for way too long. Though I’m determined to at least have one new finished object for fall and maybe the fiber fests if I’m able to go to some of them this year.
I will say with all the scary things going on in my country and being disabled and struggling with all that entails, having a cute little knit vest that screams queer (to me at least) to work on does bring about some really nice radical joy and is helpful for those Sunday scaries or any scaries right now. Like tonight, I get to snuggle my sweet pitbull, do a fun rewatch of the Mandalorian and knit on a Pressed Flowers vest with some of my favorite colors. Would definitely recommend that to others who might need to also just find small pieces of joy in their lives right now.
