Erm yeah, hi, I usually don’t do redesigns a lot but I wanted to make one for Luna that kinda accords to my headcanon!
In my headcanon, Nightmare Moon was a subconscious manifestation of Luna’s repressed jealousy, fear, and resentment toward her sister. She started off as a mere shadow (Likely a side effect of Luna’s dream powers), whispering doubts and feeding insecurities to her other side‘s ears at every move. Like a dark reflection of her inner world, she grew stronger as Luna grew more fragile.
Once Luna snapped, she let Nightmare consume her, in form of a vampire bite. That‘s when she turned, becoming the shadow herself.
After returning from the banishment, Luna had a very hard time ridding herself of her other side, fueled by the distrust and fear the new ponies had of her, since she kept her vampire bat like form even after redemption. But eventually, Luna embraced her other side, her side that moves and lives in the dark. In the dreams. Her own inner self. The Mare (Nightmare Moon‘s reformed name).
This is like a very short cut idea I have of her but in short - both sides are her, one who wakes and one who sleeps.
Since dreamwalking is probably easier as a shade, Mare is only awake in the dream realm and does that job while Luna is awake in the waking World. That’s why, regardless in which state, Luna always has one eye closed, as that side is dormant when the other one is active. So like, there‘s two versions of Luna in the same body but in different places. I thought it fits to the headcanon that Luna can never sleep bc she literally doesn’t here - Mare does that for her and she does that for Mare.
I have more ideas esp regarding the royal sisters in general so I might post more about that sometime!
But yeah, that’s kinda the deal with my redesign hehe (๑•́ ω •̀๑) I also thought a vampire Luna is very cool.
