Ring of Brodgar - the standing stones of the Ring of Brodgar on the Mainland Island of Orkney (September 2018)
“They Showed the Way” - The memorial to the Long Range Desert Group (LRDG), located at the David Stirling/SAS Founders Memorial near Doune, Scotland. Currently reading The Men Who Made the SAS, by Gavin Mortimer, and very glad I got a chance to visit! (September 2018)
Stirling - The David Stirling Memorial (aka SAS Founder’s Memorial) near Stirling’s ancestral home of Keir House in Dunblane (outside of Doune, Scotland) (September, 2018)
Armor - a suit of armor in Doha’s Souq Waqif (Doha, Qatar) (April 2017)
The Bridge - the bridge over the river running through the Croome Court parklands (Croome Court, Worcestershire, United Kingdom) (January 2016)
Winter - a barren tree, with St. Mary Magdalene’s Church in the background (Croome Court, Worcestershire, United Kingdom) (January 2017)
Camels on the Thames - an ornate bench along the Thames (London, United Kingdom) (July 2016)
Akhurian River - a view of the Akhurian River, flowing along the border between Turkey and Armenia, from the ruins of the ancient Armenian capitol of Ani (Kars Province, Turkey) (May 2015)
Since I’ve been busy and haven’t been taking as many new photos recently, here’s an oldie from my trip to Ani last year.
Antelope & Griffin - carved figures on the chair near the altar in St Edmundsbury Cathedral (Bury St. Edmunds, England, United Kingdom) (May 2016)
Lilies - lilies hang on a cross attached to the pulpit of the St. Edmundsbury Cathedral (Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk, United Kingdom) (April 2016)
A Pigeon Looks On - I know this type of picture (the Blue Mosque seen from the second-floor window of the Hagia Sophia) is overdone to the point of cliche; but this is what I have. It’s been far too long since I’ve posted, and much has happened over the past several weeks. We are out of Turkey and moved across the continent, on to our next adventure. Will definitely miss Turkey and its wonderful, hospitable people. (Istanbul, Turkey) (April 2015)
Standing Guard - another one from the #OldPics files: one of the bronze lions flanking the entrance to the Hôtel de ville de Luxembourg (Luxembourg City, Luxembourg) (September 2011)
Je Ne Se Quoi - pastries in the window of the Pâtisserie Naegel in Strasbourg’s Le Carré d'Or district. Another from my #OldPics files, and, sadly, I didn’t get a chance to taste them... (Strasbourg, France) (September 2011)
Honor Guard - another President’s Day pic from the #OldPics files. An honor guard marches during the Inaugural Parade during President George W. Bush’s second inauguration (Washington, D.C.) (January 2005)
New Order - my journey through the #OldPics has struck topical gold: in honor of President’s Day, I present you with Franklin Delano Roosevelt and his Scottish Terrier sidekick Fala, immortalized at the FDR Memorial (Washington, D.C.) (January 2005)
Good Time Coming - my jaunt through some of my #OldPics continues. Here we have the sign that hangs outside of Doyle’s Pub in Dublin, which, apparently, really struck college-age me, as I seem to have taken several pictures of it... (Dublin, Republic of Ireland) (February 2008)
Staring at the Sea - looking out at the water by Carrickfergus Castle (Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland) (February 2008)
Going through some old pictures, so it’s time for some #OldPics!
