terrible years really make you understand the point of a new year. i know nothing much will have changed between dec 31 and jan 1, but we need to be able to partition off everything that’s happened to us, we need a moment to say, ‘that’s done, we’re done with it, it’s over’ and have a little hope that the future will be different. we need to be able to stop and take a breath and sing, in the middle of winter, and prepare ourselves for spring.

Раньше жизнь представлялась только огромными событиями. Школа, выпускной, поступление, снова учеба, диплом, выпуск, работа, свадьба, рождение детей и дальше по замкнутому кругу. Казалось, что счастье и ощущение жизни в достижениях. А теперь на первый план выходят вещи, которые раньше казались фоном или рутиной. Тень прикрывает угол дома, солнце на бархатной щеке, детский смех, сразу полюбившаяся случайная мелодия, совместная трапеза, мурчащая кошка, след самолёта на голубом небе, теплая морская вода, кухонные посиделки с друзьями, разговор по душам, фотографии в альбомах, зимний вечер дома с фильмом и пледом, разучивание новых аккордов, сон на свежем постельном белье, улыбка дорогого человека. Вот из чего действительно состоит жизнь - из того, что остаётся в памяти, от чего получаешь положительные эмоции. Счастье только в том, что не отберут ни люди, ни события. Я вижу, я слышу, я чувствую, этот день никогда больше не повторится, и он прекрасен.
