I don't have a problem with the whole, "Autism is a thing you have, it's literally how your brain is wired, so people don't have autism, they are autistic," argument, I want to make that very clear, but what I do have a problem with is people acting like that means it's a cardinal sin or something to say someone has autism instead of calling them an autistic person.
I personally would prefer to say I have autism because it gives me a little thing called hope that I'm not stuck with this forever (don't even get me started on the, "We don't need a cure," argument, sure we might not need one but I sure as hell want one), and I'm sure I'm not alone in this.
I know it's who I am and it's how my brain is wired and all of that, but I'm a person first and autistic second and calling me an autistic person just feels like you're trying to rub it in and almost makes me feel like I'm viewed as autistic first and a person second (which I know isn't the case and I know any one who uses the phrase 'autistic person' doesn't mean any harm, in fact I would say autistic person should be the default and you should just use 'person with autism' if that's what the specific person prefers, but it still kinda stings).
Idk what the point of this is, I just have thoughts and a desire for attention, but yeah, basically I think it's okay to use the phrase 'person with autism' even though a lot of autistic people say otherwise
