Sam frowned faintly as her son spoke to her. âWant to try that one again?â she said softly, her brow furrowing. She knew he hadnât meant to snap at her, that he was under a great deal of stress and was undoubtedly very tired. So she kept her tone soft and offered a verbal olive branch. âItâs just me.â
âIâm sorry I justâŠI donât want to talk about it mom.â AmantĂ© sighed, running a hand through his hair. He cleared his throat to stop himself from tearing up. He was sick of crying. âIs mom okay?â he asked her, wanting to get the subject off of him.

The whole thing had felt so surreal, like she was watching herself when it happened, like an outer body experience. Unfortunately the pain was really real. When she had woken up she had been disoriented, but once she had settled she had replayed the events of that evening over and over again. Would she have acted out the way AmantĂ© did? But she didnât because it had happened with her ex and AmantĂ©s ex and he had flown into a blind rage over Florence. It had felt like her heart had sunk into her stomach and she couldnât bare the looks of the people around staring at her over what was happening. She wondered if things would have been different if she had caused a commotion instead of leaving.Â
The knock had jolted her from the replay of events she was once again thinking about. Savannah gently turned over on her uninjured side, her eyes staring at her boyfriend. âOh uh thank you.â she said a tight smile on her lips. âThey did?â she asked a little taken aback. Guess a trip to the hospital had gotten her parents attention though clearly not for long if they hadnât stayed for her. âYeah sure.â she gestured to the seat by her bed. It wasnât like she could move from her hospital bed anyway and storm out.Â
âYeah i think the hospital may have called them? Anyway, here.â He awkwardly, something that AmantĂ© usually wasnât. He walked in, putting the take out bag on the table beside her. Then he came in and took a seat. Guilt raced through him as he looked at her bandages.  âIâm sorry Sav. This is my fault. If I didnât snap at Calvin none of this would have happened.â He sighed. âIâve been a terrible person. A terrible boyfriend. You donât deserve that. Deserve this.â

Teddy had been all but tossed out of the sherifâs department and every day she came back waiting outside. She promised Josh sheâd never leave his side, she wasnât sleeping or eating, she felt like a shell of a person. Teddyâs head shot up at the person suddenly next to her. âOh, are you going in there?â she asked her voice soft and hopeful. @fearstreetstartersâ
âNo. Mom told me to come and take you home.â Amante said as he looked down at Theodora. He wasnât ready to face his uncle just yet. He knew it wasnât him, his mom had told him so. But that didnât really make it any easier. âCome on, we can get some food and you can rest. You look tired T.â

âOkay,â she replied without a fight. Florence didnât want to cause him any more issues if she could avoid it. Arguing with him wouldnât have solved anything, anyway. He always beat her in a game of who was more stubborn. âWell, how is she?â The blonde asked, clearly referring to his girlfriend who had been among the injured. It was just an excuse to keep up the conversation, not ready to walk away.
AmantĂ© was thankful when Florence didnât argue back. He wasnât in the mood. He didnât have the energy. âSheâs stable. To out but the doctorâs say sheâs going to be okay. we just have to wait for her to wake up.â AmantĂ© frowned. He wanted to be back at the hospital, or at least with his mom at the station. But everyone wanted him to rest. It was pissing him off. âAre we done here now?â

Knocking on AmantĂ©âs door again, she had a flashback to the day she had returned to Sunnyvale. Just like before, she expected he wouldnât be as happy to see her as she was to see him. In reality, returning his sweater to him was just a ploy to see how he was doing. Everything that happened the night of the bonfire had affected him, and she wanted to make sure he was okay. Hearing the knob of the door jiggle, she looked up to meet his gaze. âHey, sorry for coming over without texting. I just wanted to give you this.â The blonde held the sweater out to him.
AmantĂ© wasnât surprised to see Florence at the door. In fact, heâd been expecting it at some time. Itâs why heâd been trying to stay out the house and dorm as long as possible. âkeep it. donate it. throw it out. i donât care.â he answered her, exhaustion filling his voice. He never wanted to see that sweater again.

Izzy stared at the headline on the newspaper in her hands. It would have been hard to believe if it wasnât the talk of the townâ if she hadnât seen some of the victims come into the hospital. It was a tragedy. As things finally began to calm down on her shift, she had more time to let the news of it all actually settle in.Â
A voice behind Izzy tore her from her thoughts, bringing her back to planet earth. She set the newspaper down as she turned to face the other. âSo sorry, did you need me?â
AmantĂ© was pretty sure heâd passed this nurses station before. With a sigh he walked up to a nurse who he hoped wasnât too busy to help him out. âuh yeah. I tried to take a short cut from the cafeteria and I think I ended up with the wrong section? Iâm looking to get to Savannah Northâs room?â he asked her. âIf youâre busy Iâll take a general point in the right direction?â

Sawyer had given Amante a couple days to recover from everything that had happened on Saturday at the bonfire. Hell, he needed a couple days to recover himself. The last he saw of him, Amante had been leaving the event with his moms, most likely heading to the hospital to check on Savannah. Sawyer figured his friend had spent most of his time since the event at the hospital, knowing Amante well enough to know that he was going to blame himself for this. When he got off of work on Tuesday, he headed over to the Johnson-Fraser household with a large meat lovers pizza and a six pack. He knocked on the front door and gave a small smile when his friend answered the door. âI could use someone to help me finish these.â Sawyer spoke, holding up the pizza and beer.
AmantĂ© was asleep on the sofa when he heard the knocks at the door. Begrudgingly he got up, opening it up to find Sawyer. He thought if he stayed at the house instead of his dorm, he could avoid everyone a little longer. But apparently that wasnât the case. âIâm not in the mood Sawyer.â he answered, squinting as the sunshine blinded him.Â
âlook iâve told everyone a million times i donât want to talk about itâ AmantĂ© said, outside his house. Heâd been back and forth between the hospital and the police station all weekend. He was exhausted and finally one of the doctors convinced him to go home and rest. After promising to make sure someone called him if she woke up of course. âthat includes the press, the cops, and you.â â
AmantĂ© could hear Savannah down the hall and smiled. He was just happy she was finally awake. Leave it to her to do it the one day the nurses finally convinced him to go home and rest. He knocked on the door, standing in the door way with a food and flowers. âHey beautiful.â he said. âI figured the food here was terrible so, I brought you something. Your family called, said you were finally awake.â he said softly. âis it okay if i come in?â @savannahnorthâ

somehow it felt STRANGE to be at the townâs annual event, but also refreshing. for the first time in so many years, he decided not to play capture the flag. it just didnât seem fair considering everything that had happened weeks ago. such a tradition didnât seem like tradition. the place was familiar, so he knew exactly where he could go once he wanted to escape all the fun. his head followed the crackling noise, eyes trying to find who it was. the only light he could see was the tip of his cigarette. â thank god itâs you, not a couple making out. â
âgood thing you didnât show up 10 minutes earlier then. Sav just headed that way.â AmantĂ© chuckled as he fixed his clothes. He brushed the dirt and moss off his shirt. âItâs been awhile man, how are you?â he asked

Calvin had been excited at the aspect of playing Capture the Flag normally but with the added benefit of paintball gun the fun factor skyrocketed. âSo my plan here isâŠto let you take out Savannah.â He paused checking out the âenemiesâ from behind the tree âNow hear me out, itâs going to get crazy here for a second but hot new boyfriend tagging out his cute girlfriend is a much better headline then crazed but also hot ex getting revenge on ex-girlfriend while getting punch by his best friend for messing with his girlâ He smirked as he spoke letting AmantĂ© know he was only teasing.
âOh thereâs no time for love in war, if she gets taken out so be it.â AmantĂ© said, faking like it was a noble cause. the foreshadowing âBut to save you from the press, I will take care of Savannah.â he shook his head. He was happy that they had been able to move pass this. He didnât think he would be able to if he was in Calvinâs shoes.Â

Savannah couldnât hold out on her laugh despite covering her mouth with her hand. âCounter offer, we call a truce and make-out instead.â she called from the bush she was currently hiding in. âAnd who sayâs I canât outrun you!â she grinned seeing his expression from her hiding spot. The laugh had given away her cover but she didnât mind all that much.Â
âI donât think my girlfriend would like that too much. After all, How do I know you wonât just shoot me?â he answered with a smile when he heard Savannah. âYour stamina is not as good as mine baby girl. I think weâve proved that on more than one occasion.â he said keeping his gun up as he went towards her voice.Â

The night wind blew Jiwooâs hair everywhere, but she was determined to get the man sheâd been following. Capture the flag was not for the weak, and although she was wearing high heels, she still did her best to be silent. She just needed a good, clean aim to take him down. âStop right there!â She said, with a smile.
Amante heard the voice and quick jumped behind a bush, landing with an oof. He could put an ice pack on later. âTook you long enough to catch up! You really should try to dress more appropriate.â he yelled out from his spot, getting his paintballgun ready in case she walked around the bush. âCanât we work something out?â
Amante stopped hearing a twig snap. He raised his paintball gun, aiming it toward the noise. âAlright, come on out. Chances are you canât outrun me, so letâs both save ammo huh?â he called out. AmantĂš wasnât the worldâs best loser and tended to take the term competitive spirit to an entirely different level. âalright, iâll count to 3. 1....2....â

âYeah, the news actually suck lately. Are you going to the bonfire, though?â Olivia was probably going to make an appearance, but she had been dreading going by herself. She was extroverted, yes, but she was also extremely awkward, and trying to mingle in the annual bonfire sounded like a nightmare. âItâs fine, you donât have to explain yourself to me. Relationships are hard, blah blah blah. As long as youâre alright.â Still, AmantĂ© looked troubled. She wasnât going to pressure him into opening up, but he felt off, and she was worried. âYeah, itâs purple and glitery. Iâll probably use it to draw until it runs out in the middle of a piece and then rush to buy a new one.â She chuckled. âStill being the Shadyside Prince, I see. I donât know how you do it. It sounds so tiring.â
âYeah of course. I never miss color war.â Amante beamed proudly. Heâd been on the winning team since the first year he joined. He didnât like to toot his horn, but he liked to believe it was because of him. âWhat about you? Youâre coming right?â he asked hopefully. HE smiled lightly when she said he didnât have to explain himself. They were welcomed words considering he felt like he ALWAYS had to. âwell make sure you write me a nice letter or something with it.â he laughed. âOh, itâs definitely tiring. I just try to think about happy things.â
dimlitbrainsâ:
Olivia waved at AmantĂ©, handing over his coffee and taking a sip of her own. âItâs fine. I caught up on the⊠News?â She took another sip. âI scrolled through twitter. I know a bunch of useless shit.â She took another sip. Olivia didnât know much about Savannah, but having fights over this seemed⊠Yeah. Not good. âDoesnât Savannah know Iâm, like, gay.â She chuckled. âYouâre a catch, AmantĂ©, but youâre kind of a man.â Olivia stretched, hoping her tense muscles would relax and the topic of conversation would drift away from AmantĂ©âs relationship. âNot much is up, honestly. I got a new pen. What about you?â
âyeah, some news. At least the bonfireâs in a couple weeks? Something good to cover the bad.â He said trying his best to not let his nervousness show. He knew a lot of people looked up to him in town. Being an anxiety riddled mess didnât exactly radiate âprincelyâ energy. Not that his momâs ever expected him to be perfect. This was all his doing. âWell we kinda got together causeâŠyou know what itâs a long story. Letâs talk about it later yeah?â he said not wanting to go over the logistics of how he basically tripped into a relationship. âA new pen? Nice. One of those fancy gel ones?â he asked with a smile. âOh you know me. School practice party repeat.â
