Positive and negative writing venues
A writing exercise.
Positive venue:
She sat at her desk, situated right under the window overlooking the sandy beach, a steaming cup of coffee sitting in waiting, the rich aroma enough to wake her addled brain at this late hour. The sky was clear tonight and the full moon’s mercurial light was reflected entrancingly in the calm waters of the sea, the sea waves providing a calming accompanying acoustic tune to the soft melodies playing in the background. She decided to write on her typewriter this time, the clicking sounds she hears with every typed letter giving her a sense of comfort. The stars aligned tonight and the mood was set perfectly for her to finally finish that last chapter that has been tormenting her. The words were flowing freely as if they have taken a life of their own and she was just there to do their bidding. She smiled happily, she was confident that she will finish her book before the first sign of morning light.
Negative venue:
Sitting in a busy cafe downtown, in the middle of the afternoon, the glaring sunlight making it difficult for him to see his computer screen, he started writing after adjusting his screen’s brightness up. Just when he was about to finish his first paragraph, the waiter came to take his order, distracting him. By the time he was done, he had completely forgotten what he was going to write and scrapped the whole paragraph to start over. A few minutes later the waiter brought his order and he ignored him the best he can. He put his headphones in and started listening to his favorite writing playlist, finally getting into a writing grove. Suddenly a little kid ran next to him and his flailing left arm knocked his cup of coffee right on top of his keyboard. In his hurry to try and save his computer he accidentally knocked it off the table. A smashed computer screen and a smoking laptop was the result of one frustrated writer.
