His smile softened at that, unable to help himself from chuckling a little again. “You’re certainly not wrong. We even had fun the first time we met each other, didn’t we?”
So much time had passed since the day he had spotted Sakura– recognizing her instantly from the person she shared an appearance with. Yet, even if that was the reason why he reached out to her.. she had made such an incredible impact on his life as the person she was herself. Fate may have allowed them to meet, but Sakura’s spirit was what kept them together all this time; something that Watanuki would always be grateful for.
“You’ve always gone out of your way for me, so this is the least I can do.” unknowingly bringing him happiness, helping his smiles to become real. “.. there may be times when I’m unable to give you anything, so today, I’d like to do everything that I can.”
The more powers he was given back, the more Watanuki would need to focus on keeping his balance as the shopkeeper.. something he hasn’t needed to think about quite some time.
“Alright.. on the count of three then.” Picking up the bag again, Watanuki placed it in his lap, waiting for Sakura to have a good grasp of her present before he began. “One, two.. three.” And once they both got to the last number, Watanuki allowed his hand to search the bag, pulling out something soft from its confines. And when he saw what it was.. his eyes widened, not expecting the gift whatsoever.
“Sakura-chan.. did you make this? It looks just like me..” even if the stitching wasn’t perfect and the clothing it wore was lopsided, Watanuki could still see that there was love poured into the doll. The glasses were rounded like his own, and even its eyes were mismatched, just like his. Though lost for words momentarily, Watanuki feels himself smile again; brighter this time, outshining the tiredness in his eyes. “.. you must have worked so hard on this.. it’s wonderful. Thank you.”
Thinking back to their first meeting, if she remembered right it was over cake at the bakery. They had a nice time deciding over what kinds of cake to try and ended up getting like 3 different flavors to share. It was indeed a fun first meeting. “Mmhm! Our first time talking was so much fun!”
“I dont need much! Just having you around is enough for me! Even if we dont talk to much cause one of us is busy or something as long as you are around that is enough to make me happy then lots of gifts or something!” It was the honest truth. Sakura wasnt someone who is all about receiving gifts but cared more about the being around each other aspect.
Once he was ready with his bag, Sakura made sure to have a nice grip on the box and also able to open it easily once the countdown was done. Once he said three,c Sakura unwrapped her gift and stared at it in awe. It was so pretty! Everything about it was cute and beautiful! Such a good gift and it was for her! Before she could comment on her own gift she smiled a little embarrassed.
“I did make it. It took awhile and lots of trial and error since i am not very good at crafts but, after trying over and over this one was the best. I know its kinda lopsided and everything.” Despite the errors and faults that she could see in the doll she made what made everything not matter was the fact he smiled so brightly. That was what she wanted to see. His smile. “I did. I worked very hard. Lots of poking my fingers but it was all worth it to see you smile and like the gift!”
Turning her attention to her gift, she held it out to Watanuki. “Now my gift is very pretty and i must wear it right now. Can you help me? I want to show everyone such a pretty gift you got for me on my birthday! I will cherish it forever!” She couldnt wait to show almost everyone she knows or met. Although, it wasn’t a ton of people.
