Zenyatta let out a soft and curious noise of thought. She was definitely very stubborn. It was unfortunate to him that he had so many omnic opposed teammates. Not that it discouraged him. This was his own little challenge.

“Devastation is but the starting point of true redemption. For that matter, I agree it was my people. Though I do not agree my people as a whole have caused this. One single being is only as strong as the ones behind them. I can safely say I am not behind the ones who have done such a disfavour to your people.”

Zenyatta didn’t miss a beat, flicking off the lights quietly and standing in the doorway. His orbs lit his face as he floated a few feet away from Mercy, his concern for her unable to show enough. Regardless he trusted she would keep her word on feeling better.

“Let the tears come Mercy. With tears comes relief, and with relief comes true self-respect. If it does not pain you, I would like to know the of your grief.”

Mercy took a deep breath, trying to calm herself enough to speak clearly and without any sign of tumultuous emotions she felt at the moment. “Zhank you.” The words were soft, barely audible, but sincere. She was grateful that he was trying to be reassuring, that he was giving her the option to speak her mind or not. “I made a mistake.” She lifted her head, eyes shifting to look in his direction, though the orbs offered some light, it was still hard to make out much more than his face. “I got attached to a patient under my care, they…they didn’t make it and it just…it was too much.” 

The stress she’d been feeling before only compounded with the individual’s death, guilt weakened her usually iron clad resolve to keep a tight lid on her more negative emotions when in a place of work. “I’m sorry.” It was unclear if the last statement was meant for Zenyatta or for the patient she’d lost, her eyes taking on a thousand yard stare as she recalled the day’s events.

Zenyatta approached the desheveled Mercy cautiously. Slowly, his hand patted and gripped her shoulder in a comforting fashion. It was as if to ground her  in reality, the touch served to keep her consious of the fact she wasn’t alone.

“Death... Is not something that can be avoided. You, of all of us here, knwo that. It is bitter. But the sweetness life has given us can outweigh the bitter taste of loss.”

It was hard for an omnic such as himself to fear death, but that did not mean he didn’t understand. Whatever the misfortune, he would be there by her side to help.

She could have asked him to leave, but the surprise at being caught when she was in such a vulnerable state caught her off guard and she mentally scrambled to come up with some sort of excuse or response, but the only thing that she managed to come up with was, “Turn off zhe lights–I do not vant you to see me cry.” She turned away, hurriedly wiping at her eyes with one hand, the other running through her hair as she tried to force herself to calm down. “My apologies, I vill be fine in a moment.” She assured him, “I…I did not realize you were coming.”
