How to use @Pocket on your iPhone
Part 1: Setting up Pocket
2: Sign up with email. I'll just use Google for convenience.
3: Sign in with your preferred account. Depending on whether you're using it for personal purposes or maybe specifically for your class. I normally have a separate account I use with my students.
5: Now you're in! Tap next all the way to the end, and you'll get to view your list. Which will be empty, for now.
6: Pocket does well in its intro, so do read through their guide. I'll do a demo in the second part to show how I save articles and a YouTube video. Part one: Setting up Pocket, complete.
Part 2: Saving articles and videos
1: In safari, find an article that you like to save, and tap on the sharing button. P.s. I'm using iOS for the demo, @Pocket works with Android as well. The sharing function is a bit easier there tbh. Anyway...
2: If you already downloaded the app, the icon should be visible in the ios sharing menu. tap on that. P.s. If you can't see it in the menu, I believe you have to authorise it in your settings.
3: It's done! But hold on, let's learn how to tag it since it's always better to organise. Remember to tap on that tag icon quickly, cos it will disappear after a few seconds. If it does I'll show you how to tag things after the fact later on.
4: The app will open, and you'll get this screen. Type in the tag you like, and add new tag. Since this is an article about battery technology, I'll tag it as "science".
6: And now, your list is not empty anymore! You're now ready to add more. let's try adding videos from the YouTube app next.
Part 2a: Saving videos via YouTube app
1: Find the vid you like, and tap on the sharing icon at the top right of the screen.
2: Choose Copy Link. P.s. There's no direct way for you to add videos to pocket via the YouTube iOS app. In a way, this demo is to show how you can add any Copied link into Pocket.
3: Press the iphone home button and Open the @Pocket app. You'll see the copied link at the bottom of the screen highlighted in green. Tap the Add button to save.
4: Voila, Now you have ANOTHER link stored! But you're obviously not satisfied at the fact that it's not tagged... So for part 2b I'll show how you add tags after the fact.
Part 2b: Adding tags to saved articles
1: Tap on the untagged article. In this case,a video.
2: Tap the 3-dots-thingy at the bottom right to open up options
3: Sweet, there's the Add Tag option. You can change the other stuff as well while you're at it
4: Here, you can create a new tag just like how we did it earlier, but since I already have one that's relevant, I'll use that. Click save once you're satisfied.
There you have it folks! Simple steps on how you can use @Pocket on your mobile. Again, it's easy on the Android too. Hope this helps!
