something deeply intimate about being outside early in the morning all alone and seeing the world as she is
“studio ghibli romances be like “what if we didn’t kiss, but instead both spiritually matured as people because we met each other.”
(it’s what miyazaki wanted)
My new year's resolutions will be the same as last year. To try a new recipe every month, attempt to drink more than a liter of water every day, and read a new book each month.
Lately I've been reading before bed, and it does help me fall asleep rather than having racing thoughts about things I need to do when I wake up. I appreciate that my s/o and I continue to make books a central portion of the gifts we give each other. Right now I'm reading The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett, which was just nominated for book of the year for the book of the month club, which I'm subscribed to.
I recently bought a house and have two tenants lined up, one of which has already moved in. It's strange how easy it was, regarding the process. I don't feel any more prepared or responsible now that I've done it. I just had a dream last night about being forced to bid for a rental property without knowing the price or location, and woke up realizing I don't have to worry about my living situation anymore. Maybe it will feel more real once everything is set up. Currently am living out of boxes since I can't seem to stop working.
Certainly the purchase was partly an impulse decision, I didn't picture myself as a homeowner any time soon if you'd asked me last year. But I found a house I had a good feeling about, interest rates are low (2.625% aw yiss), and I'm excited to not have to move for the foreseeable future!!!
With the tenants I'll have lowered my cost of living by about $500 a month, which is great. Maybe I'll stop working 50-60 hours a week. But probably not. I've upped my retirement contribution and will begin to build my emergency fund back up to its former glory, and then continue to save to potentially go back to school. Should also probably invest a bit.
I realize that not many others are benefitting from the current situation, and acknowledge that I'm blessed to be in such a position financially. But I'm trying to take advantage of it, because I know it won't last. And the pay is not without risk, anyway.

“People have been talking about my body for a really long time. Good things, great things, negative things. People are entitled to have their opinions, but what matters most is how I feel about me, because that’s what’s going to permeate the room I’m sitting in. It’s going to make you feel that I have confidence in myself whether you like me or not, or you like the way I look or not, if I do. That’s the message I try to tell other women and in particular young girls. You have to love you, and if you don’t love you no one else will. And if you do love you, people will see that and they’ll love you too.”
