You can’t speak. You can’t move. But this opens you up to the influence. And it breaks down your defenses. Trust me. All right? You’re gonna love it.

This illustration is based on a forest deity called Kati in old Finnish mythology/folklore – she’s the mother and protector of trees (“puiden emuu”).
I made an illustration process article of this piece for Kuvittaja (magazine of the Finnish Illustration Association), published in the issue 2/19.

Pictured in the foreground are Baragwanathia and Zosterophyllum with their pinkish coloured sporangia for dispersing spores. More to come soon from this project with biologist and fellow fossil plant enthusiast Ken Kwak.
