Find the Weeds and Pull Them Out!
"There’s no weeds, there’s no weeds, there’s no weeds" she said to herself, as the elderly woman walked back inside her house feeling good about her prize-winning garden.
Many people don’t like to think of themselves having problems. Most people think they are of above-average intelligence, and most people think that if they work hard, follow the status quo, then everything will be ok.
It is a mindset created by our conditioned inclination to reduce dissonance, to not feel bad about our position in life.
I used to live in a suburb of Melbourne, whereby this elderly lady once had a prize winning garden. The first few times I saw her, the garden was perfect. As time went on, and as her health deteriorated, I saw her struggling to get down to tend to the garden, and so instead, she stood at the front of the garden and told herself “There’s no weeds, there’s no weeds, there’s no weeds”, and then she’d walk back inside, feeling good.
Over the next few weeks and months, I would happen to see her outside, saying to herself, “There’s no weeds, there’s no weeds, there’s no weeds” and she’d walk inside again, with a big smile on her face.
Many months later, her garden was nothing but weeds, yet she could no longer see them.
One of the biggest dangers that people face in their pursuit of happiness and success is being out of perspective. Thinking they know everything they need to know, in order to get their result. The four most dangerous words you can use, that prevent you from learning new things is “I already know this”. Anytime you say this to yourself, your mind shuts off to the possibility of hearing something new, or even taking your understanding even deeper.
Perhaps the universe is giving you an opportunity to experience this information again for a reason.
Everyone has weeds or problems in their life. The question is what level of quality your problems are? Do you have so many customers that you are running out of stock (High Quality Problem) or do you have so few customers that your stock is collecting dust (Low Quality Problem)?
Does the most successful and happiest people in the world have weeds? Of course they do!
Everyone has weeds, and the key to moving forward and making sure your ‘garden’ is kept in order is to go looking for the weeds on a regular basis and pull them out.
Sometimes, what we think is a lovely flower is a noxious weed, so occasionally further education and having mentors or coaches can also help you identify what are weeds and what are not, as well as keeping in perspective.
Stay in Perspective, go looking for the weeds and pull them out!
