A mixture of confusion, query and mild irritation played across the sharp toothed swimmers face. What in the world was Momotarō doing? Hands and knees on the ground he looked like a cat stalking its prey crawling around the grass like that.
"Oi ..." Rin murmured, nudging his foot onto the others rear end and forcing him to topple forward. "What are you doing?"
"Yeah, training has been taking a ton of time lately..! It’s fun though, so I don’t mind it." Nagisa smiles and rolls over to rest on his stomach, looking over at Rin once again. "Hm..? Why would Rei-chan be taking up my time?"
The movement catches his more of his attention and his eyes turn to the blond, side-eyeing him. A brow raised inquiring and curious. Had he assumed and gotten their relationship all wrong?
"I don't know. Aren't you two best friends? I barely ever see you guys separated."
Brooding was his current emotion. The issue didn't lie in Gou dragging him along to a festival he didn't particularly want to go to. It settled in all the stares and glances from boys being tossed at his sister. Under normal situations, he bit his tongue when it came to Gou and wasn't outright invested with involving himself in her life. But that wouldn't stop him from keeping them at bay with his shark toothed scowls.
"Your form is on point."
It was a sincere compliment. Rei had a knack for compiling perfect forms for the different styles. Rin noticed that throughout all these mini-secret-practices. But, and there was always a "but." He was awful at executing them. That much was sure.
"You still need work with your execution though. Try it again."
It was a nice day out, perfect for outdoor activities, but it still held that small kick of heat behind it. The force of it built up had Rin break for water at one of the fountains dispersed throughout the park. Cupping his hands he splashed some on his face. Refreshing and cooling him down a little more. It was then that he noticed an unfamiliar face glancing around. What she lost? If not, she appeared as if she was.
"You look lost." Should he have tapped her on the shoulder to gain her attention first?
It began to dawn on Matsuoka that he needed to surround himself with a few more faces. Get to know some of his team before he left next year. Not as if this had anything to do with Sousuke and Aiichirō missing during dinner hours.
Small tray of food in hand, he scanned the room and picked a candidate he thought was worth while.
"Alright if I sit here?" He asked planting himself down next to Toru contently without waiting for an answer and beginning to dig into his food. A distance pout on his features.
"Ah. Look at that. Rin! It’s good to see you again!"
Kisumi didn’t think that he’d run into his old classmates again. But after the whole thing at the Swim Club, he shouldn’t be surprised that some oh so familiar faces are just going to keep popping up.
Strange. Even his personality seemed like it hadn't changed much since back then. It was surprising, yet almost relieving to know.
"Yeah, same." Way to seem dumbfounded and weird about meeting old friends.
"How long has it been?"
"You did good out there."
He informed the other as he slouched himself across the lockers next to where Nitori was tossing his jammer into, changing out his clothes. The swim meet wasn't a big time one. Just some friendly competition between Samezuka and another local academy. Never the less, the younger classmen gave it his all.
"Hm.. Maybe it was regionals.. Whenever it was, it was too long ago!" Nagisa grinned as he turned to lay down on the grass with his friend, imitating the position that Rin was in just for the fun of it. "We barely get to hang out anymore, Rin-Rin!" The teen innocently used the nickname he had given the redhead during their relay. It made him smile, so why not use it? "Things have been so busy lately.."
He turned a blind eye to the smaller male's innocent mimicking, it was just fun and games, nothing to get bent out of shape about. He wasn't that big of a tight wad.
Stare still on the blond, he continued the train of thought and tried to come up with a date. Finding nothing, it really had been some time and like Nagisa, he had been super busy with a multitude of things recently.
"Yeah? Is it training or has Ryūgazaki been eating up your time?"
As on most nights that Nitori stayed out late training alone in the pools, Rin found himself traveling the hall. Plucking change from his pocket and dispensing it into the vending machines, he chose between energy bars and nutritious snacks that would be good for post work-outs and pool activities.
Bottled water and protein bar in hand, he headed towards the pool to drop them off with Nitori's belongings. In the shadows he stood a few moments, hands stuffed in his pockets, watching his younger teammate make consecutive laps in the pool.
He was working so hard, keeping his dream alive, a captain could be proud.
Clear skies and a moon big, full, and bright over the city painted a beautiful blue scene for all to see. It called out to him from the moment the sun set, beckoning him for a night jog. One Rin obliged to when he couldn't focus on his homework anymore because of the restless tingle that formed in his legs.
Incidentally he crossed Haruka out doing the same when he veered off the path he was on and took one that lead by the ocean. Slowing his pace as he came up to the other.
"You're out late." As if he could talk.
The younger was sulking again, something he’d done since the first time he’d met him. When he was still angry and lost about the troubles in his life. Back then he wouldn’t have even let him do certain swim meters, let alone captain an entire team. But he’d grown enough, even if he might not think it.
"I’m not your captain anymore." He reminded, crossing his arms and looking back at the rest of the Samezuka swimmers. Not much looked like it’d changed, which was exactly what he was hoping for. No slacking and still visible evidence of focus in them all.
"I figured it might’ve been something like that. Good to see you’re taking your responsibilities seriously. I can tell you’re now putting the team first."
There was a small, barely noticeable flinch of embarrassment evident in his shoulders when Mikoshiba pointed out the rather obvious. Choosing to ignore it, he wasn't going to explain why he continued to call him that -- and would continue to call him that.
Scarlet eyes, alive and intense with growing agitation, pinned themselves on the other. Caught between feeling like he was being praised and insulted in an all-in-one. Though, he wasn't sure how to respond to it.
"There a real reason you're here or is patronizing me your new special hobby."
When Rin decided to go out and about for once he never expected his day to basically start with him running into Haru. More importantly, he would have never thought he would find him trying to fit himself into a public park fountain.
What did he think he was doing? That's not a pool, or a bath. People were staring, kids were asking their parents what was going on.
"Haru ... you can't be in there. Get out of the water."
