It’s incredibly important to me that the anime decided to include this scene that wasn’t in the manga. In the manga, Maomao does pass out in Jinshi’s lap after saving him from what was obviously an assassination attempt.

HOWEVER, the manga cuts off at this point, keeping strictly in Maomao’s perspective, and cuts straight to when she regains consciousness in bed after being treated for her injuries. The manga doesn’t show how she got back. They SAY how, and she briefly mentions, “wow that must have been embarrassing; he carried me back,” but we don’t SEE it. We don’t get to feel the true impact of what that means. But the anime DID show us, and holy shit.

They SHOW us how taboo this is. They show Jinshi carrying her out of the temple, after a public attempt on his life.

They show us the shock and horror on Lakan’s face as Jinshi silently walks past him. Horror at the state his daughter is in, horror at another man—a man with a status he could never dare to question—staking such a public claim over his child, horror at the fact that he could never have this level of closeness with her (as Maomao would never allow it).

Everyone hides their gazes, as is their custom when someone of his rank passes by, but the air is different this time. Jinshi is furious, he’s terrified, and he could not give a single shit about how inappropriate it looks to these palace officials.

The shot that slowly follows her trail of blood—even though it’s a small detail—that in particular leaves such a intense impression of how poignant this is for him.

Maomao talked about this scene in the manga like it was nothing to her. She did what she set out to do: she saved the person who was targeted by the attack. She didn’t even know the target would be someone she knew. But she has no idea that this happened afterwards as a result of her bravery. To her, it likely wasn’t even an act of bravery at all. She acted on impulse; she did what she knew was the right thing to do.

The anime didn’t need to include this, because the manga didn’t show it. But damn, I’m so glad they did.

The one all, brilliance, bloody smiles and showmanship, the one with razor sharp wit and charm made weapon. Dick who seamlessly switches between a million personas. The one who doesn’t know what to do when the show’s over. Give me the Dick no one wants to be on the wrong side of because Nightwing might not start battles, but he finishes them. The only one whose threats the entire Batfam (including Bruce) takes seriously. The one fear toxins can’t affect because he’s been to hell and back.

The Dick who unlike Jason doesn’t even mention how much he’s been fucked up and survived. The one the Joker knew he couldn’t break.

dave filoni is actually so funny for dedicating a whole season to maybe explaining "somehow palpatine returned" only for it to not go anywhere. they spent all of season 3 telling us that omega is so important to hemlock's research and project necromancer. they teased a force sensitive clone and experimented with the zillo beast. they name dropped midiclorians for the first time in 25 years. and it meant nothing agsbdks. sure, we can infer that it was proof of concept for clone palpatine but in no way do they tell us what or when or how or why. they just blow up the lab. none of the research was salvageable. tarkin says rip hemlock sucks to suck and gives the order to redirect all funding to building the death star. filoni said you will NOT catch me cleaning up the mess of the sequels. it's so iconic

GOD Yuri on Ice went hard. My man Victor fell in love at a party, spent a year making a sweepingly romantic program about it after he got totally ghosted, made another program about getting cruelly abandoned by a flirtatious playboy, THEN watched the guy who ghosted him perform the grand romantic program he wrote ABOUT HIM and post it on the internet without saying ANYTHING TO HIM. Since the Percy Jackson show is coming out tomorrow (!!!!) it's time to shout something into the void:

DO NOT SEND HATE TO THE ACTORS. THEY ARE LITERALLY CHILDREN.

This means if you are:

mad about a casting decision

mad about a certain scene/character/line not being in the show

mad about how something plays out in the show

mad at a character for turning out to be a bad guy

mad at a character for getting in the way of your ship

you DO NOT direct that anger at the actors who are just doing their jobs. You can be mad at Disney, you can be mad at Rick, but you leave the kids alone. Growing up in the public eye is really, really hard and we should do whatever we can to make it easier for them.

To that effect, this also means that:

If two characters are love interests in the show, do not start shipping the actors in real life. This applies to all actors in all shows generally but especially to kids

Don't make negative comments on the actors' physical appearances. "So-and-so doesn't have enough muscle" "That person is not pretty enough to play a child of Aphrodite" These are kids who's bodies are still growing and developing, and pressures of Hollywood are already insane, so none of that shit.
