Cotylorhynchus.
Legy (it/its) A floppy Sharovipteryx sewn in March 2025 (revealed for April fools'...). Very happy to finally use some of those googly eyes on this one hehe. Prototype for a printed fabric version for my shop.
wow ignore that i havent posted here since last year. ANYWAYS !!!! somehow i forgot to post these guys alongside my Megaraptor i drew in november so 😭 here's some more fandinos for Paleo Pines !!!
"fandinos" being sorta misleading though since neither of these guys are dinosaurs lol. regardless, up first we have Tanystropheus who is infinitely ridiculous. then we have Sharovipteryx, who is equally infinitely ridiculous. both of these guys lived in the Triassic - and surprisingly, are likely related!
There’s a weird little Triassic critter called Sharovipteryx, a lizard-like protorosaur with an extensive membrane between its long hind legs that probably allowed it to glide like a delta-wing aircraft. Despite a certain fringe paleontologist trying to classify it as a close relative of pterosaurs, the flight membrane is much more likely to simply be a result of convergent evolution.
Also, it was totally the real life version of Latias and Latios.
if you could bring back ONE dinosaur, which one would it be?
Sharovipteryx
#Archovember Day 15 - Sharovipteryx mirabilis
Yep, this is in fact an archosauromorph, not a lizard. They were actually pretty closely related to Tanystropheids (remember our long-necked friend from day 6?) Protorosaurids were just trying things out.
Sharovipteryx had looong hind legs, with a membrane stretched between them and its tail, allowing it to glide like a delta wing aircraft. To my knowledge, this is the only animal to have tried flying with just their legs and it’s... creative. So I’ll give them that.
No dinosaurs #dinovember2022 day 23: Sharovipteryx
Sharovipteryx mirabilis
Ozimek volans, a Polish reptile that’s also a close relative of Sharovipteryx.
Skeletal reconstruction of Sharovipteryx mirabilis, a highly unusual gliding reptile hailing from the late Triassic of Kazakhstan (225 mya)
Medical bacon marijuana. That is all…
