Skylar's old Victorian was like a second home to Seth; he knew the place inside and out - almost as well as he knew the Shape-Shifter. And over the course of a little over two centuries, the two had grown close, acting more like siblings than longtime best friends and tracking partners. So when he got a very distressed call from a very upset Sky, he packed his bags and drove straight to her community, punching in the code at the keypad and practically flooring his Land Rover through the neighborhood.
He unlocked the front door with the spare key on his karabiner and stepped in, white eyes glancing about the seemingly empty house. "Hello, ladies?" he called, heavy British accent obvious in his deep voice. "I hope I'm not intru-"
"You aren't." Skylar replied from the top of the stairs, and the Vampire stepped inside and shut the door behind him. She rushed down the stairs and flung her arms tight around his neck, squeezing her friend tightly. "I'm so glad you're here..." she mumbled into his shoulder. She lifted her head up and met the worried gaze staring down at her. "Maddie's upstairs, resting. She's really shaken up right now."
He hugged the woman back, then let her go so she could step back. "I can't blame her a bit. And you...?"
"Y'sure? Because you sounded like you were about to go full-on Rambo on the fucker."
"Who said I wasn't?" she replied, and received a cocked eyebrow from Seth. "You know damn well I can't just sit here and wait for something to happen. I can't. And I won't."
"So chasing him down, by yourself, is the way to go? Skylar, I love you, I really do, but this isn't one of your best ideas..."
"Do you have something better, Seth?" she questioned in return. "Because I have nothing. And I will not sit around, waiting for some dirtbag werewolf to come and hurt my little girl." The white irises flickered to red, and in a lower voice, she added, "I'm not losing another child."
"I know, love. I know." He reached up and took her good shoulder in his hand, giving it a gentle rub. "Go... go finish getting ready. And for the love of all that's good, don't get your sorry ass kicked out there. I don't want to save it."
She let out a snort and pushed her hand away with a tiny smile. "You're the sorry ass here, vampire. Not me. Now, go make yourself useful or something." She waved a hand to shoo him away as she ventured back up the stairs.
"Whatever helps you sleep at night, shifter," he replied and walked into the main room, dropping his duffel on the ground and taking a seat on the couch. When he heard the heavy clacking of Skylar's bag, and the woman appeared in her tracker suit, he knew she meant business. "Be careful out there," he said as he stood up. "Please."
With that, Skylar pulled the front door open and stepped out, closing and locking it behind her. It was only him, Maddie, and the quiet home left.
