Believing in your own work is hard work. I constantly question whether or not my words are worthy of being shared. I wrestle with the idea that someone somewhere has already said what I’m saying in one form or another... which I understand is a reflection of our connection as human beings. Nothing is necessarily original, it has all been felt or said or done before... but what’s unique about the what’s is the how’s and the who. Meaning you and your work. I received perhaps the greatest sign that my work gets the proverbial nod from the universe yesterday. An old friend requested that I speak at her wedding; write a piece on love and compassion steeped in connection and spiritually and recite my art to the hearts of the people she holds in hers. It was the most beautiful request I have ever received, one that humbled me and honored me all at once. It allowed me, at least for the moment, to settle into confirmation of my purpose here. To love; to be it, write it, spread it, empower with it, inspire it, and even speak at a ceremony devoted to it. Stand in your light, friends. Even in the times when everything around you seems dark, someone, somewhere is touched by it. #poetry #poetrycommunity #poetsofinstagram #bymepoetry #wordswithqueens #herheartpoetry #omypoetry #writer #writerscommunity #amwriting #motherhoodrising #wordmedicine #writersnetwork ##writersofinstagram #amwriting #empowerment #poetsoninstagram #shawnraepoetry
