Hello old friend.

Mahogany and bergamot

Drifts into my space like

A breeze weaving through a woodwind.

My voice drops lower than intended,

My cheeks flush as you make light of it.

I remember this.

We ease into the living room cautiously,

Two felines checking out surroundings,

Ready to cut the night short if either of us

Moves too quickly.

Whiskey pours and we drink quickly,

You a bit faster than me.

I make light of your nervousness,

And suddenly we find ourselves back in a familiar flow.

Banter and commentary,

Loved ones and life's trifles.

A quiet joy in each other's company.

No promises or propositions.

We're older now,

Five rotations around the sun,

Wiser, maybe a bit more tired.

Maybe a bit more grateful

For the vintages life has poured.

Time will tell.

But for tonight,

It is nice to meet you again.
