Wow I finally saw Love, Simon and teared up so much. It was sooo cute and idc if it was cheesy in parts I loved it so much. I related to so much of it, especially since I came out around the same age as Simon.
The best part of it was that my parents saw it before I did and after I watched it, my mom hugged me and said that she’s so proud of me and loves me and thinks I’m so brave and agrees with everything Simon’s parents said. She said that she hasn’t been able to say all of that because she’s Chinese lol which goes to show how much this movie (and others like it) help people. Not everyone is as comfortable with expressing their feelings, just like my parents coming from Chinese culture it’s not typical for them to speak their feelings so this helped them show how supportive they are of me. I love them so much and knew they thought this, it just took time, but it was still so nice hearing her say these words out loud to me.
Thank you Love, Simon for making me cry and connecting with my mom better. This is coming from an Asian American queer girl that is not used to expressing emotions easily, but is growing along with my family.
