Themes/Idea: Exploring the duality of the 'shepherd'. What is it like to be a person of faith? A leader? The flock looks to you for advice, and you have to seem confident, appear rock-solid and unquestioning in your faith. The smiling face is the public face of the shepherd. The larger, pensive face is the private face. The face on insecurity, of doubt. Not necessarily doubting the faith, but more doubting one's individual capacity to care, protect and provide for his flock.

Themes/Ideas: the 'hidden face' of rage behind the 'civilised' veneer. In this case, the idea is that the 'rage' is the true face, the justified face, the appropriate reaction to a life of filled with injustice and persecution. The 'civilised' face is the mask we wear to be able to function within society.

Themes/ideas: still playing with the idea of several parts of the same person, but moving away from classical duality. Humans are more complex that that. This image explores the differences that experience can have on the same face. Each face is the same person, but with different life experiences, especially the one to the right, where a life of violence (both as victim and perpetrator) is literally etched and scarred onto his face.

Themes/Ideas: basically playing with the imagery of the devil and angel on either shoulder. The duality of humanity as described in the classic novel, an idea flirted with in the song.

Themes/Ideas: playing with the religious themes and images evoked by the story. If we 'split' ourselves into a 'good' (Jekyll) and a 'bad' (Hyde) side, then we can almost avoid responsibility for the decisions we make, and pain we cause.

"The devil made me do it" was a classic refrain, especially from men in the earlier parts of the previous century, when they were caught 'sinning'. Instead of accepting responsibility, admitted that they simply gave in to their own desires, they pushed the blame outwards, into a nebulous, powerful external force.

Are there aspects of modern life that we play in the same way? What external forces do we blame our mistakes, our 'sins' and desires on now?

Themes/Ideas: the idea of 'passing' which is a major social theme in America and South Africa, where people who looked racially ambiguous would cut off their melanated family, and 'pass' as white. Of course, genetics being a funny thing, a generation or two later a 'throwback' (strange word loaded with many negative connotations) and a 'white' family would produce a 'black' child, leading to all sorts of potential drama and accusations of infidelity etc, but the root cause being that lack of knowledge of their history. The past can never be truly erased.
