I’m a grown man.” John says, demeanor cool and casual as he guides them across the street to a vaguely threatening pub. He opens the door, gesturing for Billy to enter first. 

“After you.”

“Oh, okay..” Nervousness and excitement battle for dominance as Billy steps over the threshold to the pub, feeling like he’s sticking out like a sore-thumb in his full get-up as he enters.

Maybe he should have thought this through.

Still... free beer from just about the coolest person Billy knows, without a catch? He can’t deny the opportunity. Besides, he’s never had alcohol before, and any kid his age would be curious about it...

“Nonsense, surely ye ‘ave time fer one pint with ol’ Uncle Johnny.” John says, gripping a secure arm around Billy’s shoulder. He steers them towards the exit of the store, eyes ahead.

“Lucky fer us, I know a good pub just up the way—-let’s walk.”

Billy falls in step with John, shoulders hunching as he’s escorted out. He’s been busted, big time, and if John tells Clark about this Billy’s pretty sure his life is over ‘till he’s 21. “You’re not gonna.. tell anyone.. right?”
