She was constantly trying to prove that she was in control – not to anyone else, exactly, but to herself. A soft smile for the blonde alien, she let her blue eyes drop to the ground again, letting the round rocks shake and fall, consumed by Earth’s gravity once more.

             Brave. Geesh, if only she felt that way too. Should Karolina have told her that when it counted most, she’d found herself freezing in place, stuck within her own mind and unable to be the HERO, she - if not her city, if not the whole freaking world - needed herself to be. A weak smile flits across her face, a pale ray of sun hidden behind a clog of clouds.

     “Can you show me again?” It might have been a big ask, given the first time had been an accident, but there was no chance of Dahlia forgetting and her curiosity was beyond piqued. 

          Karolina smiled patiently. Anyone else and she might have felt like a FREAK SHOW, an animal in a case on display, but the wonder in Dahlia’s eyes was little - kid genuine. It was too hard to resent. Breathing in, she felt the glow settle over her, the warmth spreading across her body like a salve. When she opened her eyes, the room was bathed in a flurry of pink and yellow, blue and lilac, a pastel kaleidoscope. ❝ So... still think I’m not a freak? ❞

I can only IMAGINE how overwhelmed you must be. ❞ Maybe, some other time when she’s not on the verge of a panic attack, Karolina should refer Gert to her therapist. Not the WORST idea.

It’s hardly Alison’s stardom that has her tongue in knots all the way down to her stomach: it’s the fact that any pretty girl in her vicinity has the ability to turn her into a big ol’ disaster.
