Bande à part (1964) dir. Jean-Luc Godard
What movie would you say is the closest to the spirit of Goths?
This strikes me as a really good question, and I don’t know the answer to it. I feel like thinking about it for five minutes and then saying “I’ve got it!” would be exactly the kind of poseur stance I seek to avoid. It would wanna be a movie where the action level is low but the descents into serious emotional territory are really stark - that’s the vibe I was going for, writing it, something where the music is good & interesting & harmonically complex so that when the “Rage of Travers” lyric finally registers above the groove, it doubles its strength, the sadness of the guy who can’t sell out the Rainbow any more assumes the proportions that it already has in his head. As you can see, I think more in terms of tone & mood than I do actual plot – the palette is more interesting to me than the shape. Tod Browning’s Dracula, maybe?
My story....
Scott writes that all 23 women interviewed for the paper described doing both male and female chores. Men, on the other hand, talked mostly about male labor. Unless specifically asked, only a third of the men interviewed mentioned any work traditionally done by women. One apple grower described his orchard as a one-man business that his son would eventually inherit, with his wife and daughter only minimally involved. But, in a separate interview, his wife said that while her husband and son took care of the trees, she handled seedlings in the nursery, coordinated sales, hired seasonal labor, kept the books, and helped make decisions. She also mentioned that their daughter ran the farm’s fruit stand. The men were also more likely to emphasize male ownership of family enterprises—“my grandfather’s farm” or “my tractor.” In contrast, the women usually referred to “my grandmother and grandfather’s farm” or “our tractor.”

bodega cats are the best thing about living in new york
like you’ll just be making a pissy 2 am trip to the corner store for tampons and a pint of chocolate fudge swirl, and then there’s a cat. a super friendly cat that will chirp at you and nuzzle your hand. it works at the bodega. it hunts pests and gets paid in all the cold cuts it wants, and everybody loves it. it’s the happiest cat you’ve ever seen. every single bodega cat is living its best life.
I hope this cat gets lots of cold cuts and soft pettings
And is having a Very Good Day today
