I come here in peace with a decade of love.
Cup overflowing, thank heavens above.
They loved and they laughed and they lied as boys do.
All my poking and joking led their hearts straight to you.
I’m thankful of course for what I was given,
what I had shared and what I had hidden.
They gifted me firsts of touches and heart,
little bright lights reaching out from the dark.
There were trials and bruises and crushing defeats,
kisses and secrets sewn into soft sheets.
I could choose to be bitter or hold onto hate,
in defensive denial of all that is fate.
But time is relentless and though I did fall,
there is nothing of love that I don’t love at all.
