Summer means, at least to me, “I am young, I’m alive, and my life is happening right now”.
Nina MacLaughlin put it well in this book, emphasizing in the slowness and nostalgia that summer brings with it.
“I have these tasks to do but I can do them later”, without guilt. Because life is happening now and the only thing that really matters is to enjoy the journey.
Her descriptions of the little aspects of summer, such as slicing fresh tomatoes, the little flies that annoy us constantly, the expansion of greenery, the sun kissing our skin in a quiet afternoon and the sweet caress of the sea really resonated with me and made me romanticize a little my sunny commute to home in the bus, after a long day of work.
Fun nights with friends. Iced teas, coffees and cocktails. Ice cream. Beach and grass reading. Relaxation. Walking barefoot. Nice summer dresses. Give me all of it.
I’m between the Summer lovers. And probably will always be, even though the heat is becoming more and more of a nuisance as years pass by. Summer will always be the season where no matter what Life throws in my way, I will disconnect. And enjoy the treats that come with it.
