I have been through a lot of divorce in my life and at times have had a pretty cynical view of marriage and what it means to be married. The thing that has helped me fight off the cynic within me is the relationship between my grandparents. They have been together since they were 12 years old. Married at 18 or 19. I have grown up right underneath them… seeing them love each other, be real with each other, and lean on each other. I’m so thankful to have had that picture of what it means to commit to someone through thick and thin painted so clearly for me, by them. They are some of the best friends I will ever have and at the same time they are my role models. Anyone would hope to have the kind of relationship they have with each other and anyone would hope to know someone like either of them… And anyone who knows 2 people like both of them is just way way too lucky. And that’s me.
Happy anniversary, Granny and Grandat. I am so lucky I know you two.
My grandparents just celebrated their 50th anniversary in December and my parents too are divorced. It's an awesome a beautiful thing to see two people who can be together for so long and still love each other even if others can't.
