In the answer, this preposition can translate into English as by, with, or in.

This same preposition can specify how someone or something is and what they care about. When describing an emotion, the preposition is followed by a noun that names the emotion.

The same rule applies to prices. The preposition is followed by a noun for the price.

Grammar Note in MSA, The Definite Article
Arabic lacks indefinite articles like the english a or an, therefore the definite article ال, which means the is especially important.
In this first example, attaching the definite article to the word that means day, يوم, changes its meaning to today.
عندي موعد اليوم
I have appointment the day, I have an appointment today
In the second example, attaching the definite article to the word that means night, ليلة, changes its meaning to tonight.
عندي اجتماع الليلة
I have meeting the night, I have a meeting tonight
The definite article is also important when telling time. Instead of saying six o’clock, in Arabic we say in the sixth hour.
غروب الشمش في الساعة السادسة
setting the sun in the hour the sixth, the sunset is at six o’clock
الموعد في الساعة الثانية
the appointment in the hour the second, the appointment is at two o’clock
The definite article can also be attached to an adjective to specify the noun. But this slightly alters the sentence’s meaning. Look at this comparison.
الرجل طويل ولطيف
the man long and kind, the man is tall and kind
الرجل الطويل لطيف
the man the long kind, the tall man is kind
الرجل الطويل اللطيف مريض
the man the long the kind sick, the tall kind man is sick
Grammar Note in MSA, Countable Nouns (headstart2)
When counting one or two nouns in Arabic, the number word comes after the noun.
تفاحة واحدة
apple one, one apple
For the number one (1), the gender of the number word must agree with the noun’s gender.
شيئان اثنان
things (dual) two, two things
هناك لواء واحد
there general one, there is one general
هناك لواءان اثنان
there generals (dual) two, there are two generals
For quantities of one or two nouns, the number word is unnecessary. When the singular noun form is used, it is understood that the quantity is one.
هناك طيار
there pilot, there is a pilot
A dual form ending on a noun indicates that there are exactly two objects without using the number word that means two.
هناك طياران
there pilots (dual), there are two pilots
For quantities of three to ten, the number word comes before the plural noun, and the gender of the number word is the opposite of the noun’s gender.
خمسة أولاد في السيارة
five boys in the car, there are five boys in the car
خمس بنات في الحافلة
