Archer gave a soft laugh at that proposition. Running both hands through Eamon’s hair and kissing his forehead again. “Of course I’ll join you. How else will you scrub your back?” He teased again, swaying them side to side.

“You can touch me all you want. Hell, next time you start studying I don’t mind if you lay across my legs or lean against me, I’ll be your ‘Support’! Get it?!” He snorted a dorky laugh and gave Eamon a gentle shake.

“Come on let’s go get a shower and try to get some brain function back. What do you say? I’ll even let you use my fancy french body wash for super sensitive skin. Make you smell all pretty~.”

Eamon chuckled, hot breath over Archer’s neck. “We’ll see.” Since he tended to do most of his work at the library he wasn’t sure when the chance might arise. Besides, even the thought of touching Alaric while he studied was distracting. Actually touching would make it near impossible to get work done. 

Lifting his head, he kissed Archer slowly, one hand cupping his cheek. “I’ll only smell pretty for you.” He nudged at him so that they could both rise from the floor.

It’s the only response he gives when she shuts his eyes and takes a sip of the coffee presented to him. It’s terrible. Admittedly he’d never much been a fan of coffee to begin with, but this one struck him as excessive, but he couldn’t complain. It wasn’t as though he had very high hopes considering the circumstances.

“It appears I am stuck.”

Eamon sipped his own coffee. He had seen the Marines come off Guadalcanal, the absolutely battered look to them, the sheer gratitude for a hot cup of coffee. Since then he took his coffee without any complaint, even to himself. At least he had the skies, rather than being stuck in the mud. Their coffee was probably half actual dirt.

“Stuck?” He looked at Lawson. “On board you mean?”

When his boyfriend finally relented, Archer gave another sigh of relief. Laughing even as he wrapped his arms around him.

Archer returned the favor, wrapping his own arms tightly around his shoulders and neck, pushing him into Archer as he kissed the top of his head. He spoke softly and sweetly as he ran his fingers through the other’s hair. Sometimes all it needed to recharge was a soft touch and someone telling you you didn’t have to take on the whole world by yourself.

“Do you need to take a shower? Why  not take a bath instead. I’ll warm it up for you and I’ll bring you a beer.” He kissed him again, lingering as he kissed along his cheek and ear. “I’ll even read to you if you want. Just relax. Your test isn’t even until next week… right?”

The touch helped, whether Eamon was up to admitting it or not. Eyes closed as he surrendered to it, to Archer. The scent of him filled his nose. His weight pressed against his legs while his arms provided pressure around his upper body. They were pressed together, not one person, but one unit, the pair of them against the world. 

“How about a shower, but you join me?” One hand slipped down, rubbing at Archer’s lower back. “Test is next week but it’s a lot of material. And I have a quiz this week. Trying to space out work on my papers, too, so I don’t have to do them all at the last minute.”

Eamon sighed softly and nuzzled Archer’s neck. “If you’re gonna make me relax then I don’t wanna stop touching you,” he said quietly.

Archer took a long breath and slowly released it. He moved to where he was now sitting in Eamon’s lap with his arms wrapped around his neck, blocking his view of his textbooks and notes and had to focus on Archer’s face.

“You are pushing yourself too hard boo. I love you and you’re making me worried.” He scratched Eamon’s chin and made him look up again. “What did you tell me when I pulled all nighters? What did you say when I made myself stay up 24 hours just so I could get that one paper done?

“You are so smart it’s okay to miss something. You can’t study anything when your body and your brain is spent and too tired. Eat something. Sleep. Let me rub you. It’s better than any energy drink I promise you.”

He leaned back as Archer came over and climbed in his lap. With a small sigh he put his hands on Archer’s thighs and listened. The points were indeed the same ones he had made in the past. It seemed easier to take his own advice then.

“Alright,” he relented. It wasn’t so much hearing what Archer said as it was feeling him in his lap. Eamon wrapped his arms around him in a tight embrace, laid his head on his shoulder and pressed his face to his neck. He was quiet, just enjoying holding his boyfriend.

Archer stepped across the living room and crouched beside him, poking that hanging bottom lip with a single finger. “Boop.” He snorted a laugh, then kissed the spot to make up for it.

“I think somebody has been studying for too long. You need a break. You know you’re supposed to take a break every hour.”

“I don’t want to waste time,” he countered. Ever since the new semester started, Eamon spent enormous amounts of time on his schoolwork. No matter the reason for leaving school, he felt as though he now had to prove he belonged there. He wanted to finish and take the whole damn world by storm. 

“I just don’t want to waste time, Archer.”

The words that come from the man’s mouth all seem to bounce off him, the chatter that fills the mess-hall like area within the confines of the ship only distracting him as he slides the coffee from beneath the pot and takes a sip or two. The bitter taste is initially overwhelming but over time he felt the taste linger on his lips so he kept it with him. He gives a small nod, expression still rather stone-like before he blinks a few times at the other man before replying.

“Lawson.”

He thought a few moments of quiet and the promise of coffee might help loosen the other pilot, but neither seemed to do the trick. Whether it was the loss of his plane or his usual demeanor, Eamon didn’t know. 

“We both made it back in one piece. Safe to say we earned this coffee.”

Atrius chuckled and tilted his head and leaned into the touch, purring at the soft contact. He smiled, mandibles flaring as he continued to lead Eamon around in a slow dance. “Ah’m turian, bu’ Ah ain’t totally made o’ steel y’know.” he drawled, rubbing at his husband’s back.

He gave a low hum and nibbled at Eamon’s neck. “Darlin’, Ah know ye didn’…bu’ honestly…Ah wanted ye t’a ‘ave a memory tha’ was…good. Somethin’ tha’ wasn’ m’family bein’ crazy or vows or…well t’formal stuff. Somethin’ jus’ …us…bein’ close. Tha’s, perfection.” he said, chuckling a little.

He rubbed his thumb over the hand he held and smiled at his husband. “Ah love ye, y’know tha’? Tha’s why Ah’m always doin’ t’ose …sticky romancy stuff. Ah jus’ wan’ us t’a ‘ave somethin’ tha’s fer us an’ no one else. Ye an’ me…an’ somethin’ nice.” He murmured, leaning in and nuzzling against his husband’s face. “Take a break wit me because we deserve somethin’ nice…Jus’ us two.”

“I think I would be first in line to describe you as something other than steel.” The word would certainly be in the description. Eamon had seen what he could do to some extent, and his injuries spoke to the rest. He was a man of steel, no question about that. But in their lives as they were now? Words that spoke to their soldiering were no longer first and foremost in their descriptions.

He thought about their wedding, about the dance they shared. Did he look to it when he was in need of a happy memory? Sometimes. He definitely recalled more of Atrius in that moment than their surroundings, which seemed to be what the turian was getting at. Still, he offered, “When I think of us being close, I think of us in bed.”

Eamon nuzzled in return before turning to kiss a mandible. “My something nice is you,” he said, a bit of gruff to his voice. His gaze settled at a spot over Atrius’ shoulder. “It’s easier though, when you do those things now. They used to... overwhelm me. Like all the things...” He trailed off, thinking of how things were after the war. When he was in pain and angry. He hadn’t treated Atrius very well then and it embarrassed him now.

“I think you want to dance a lot more often than I do.” Eamon draped his arms around Atrius’ neck, tempted to rub the place beneath his fringe that was guaranteed to make him purr and growl. For the moment he held off though. It was enough to be close to him, his scarred eyes taking in Atrius’ face. 

“Didn’t think you practiced,” he murmured, and now his thumb brushed the side of his husband’s head. “I didn’t think you ever quivered in your boots.” Eamon kissed his chin. To him, most of the wedding had been superfluous. All he wanted was to be with Atrius. But Atrius wanted more, wanted more like he wanted candlelit bedrooms and romantic dinners together. How could Eamon deny what made him happy? He made enough fuss whenever Atrius lit candles. He could give him a happy wedding.

But he hadn’t noticed Atrius being nervous. Maybe he was too nervous himself, surrounded by the large turian family as he pledged himself to their ranks. “I really didn’t need dancing to make it perfect...”

Paperwork was a terrible thing and Eamon disliked it as much now as he did when he was in the Alliance. There was something to be said for being a lowly grunt, doing as you were told, fighting when necessary, and not doing any damn paperwork. Now that he and Atrius had their own business, the paperwork had returned to his life.

Of course, the Alliance didn’t have his husband ready to save him from the dull work. That made his current situation a happier one. “I should really finish this,” he said, even as he rose and approached. “Won’t get done on its own.”

97. “You’re so cute when you pout like that.”

Eamon looked up from the book he was reading. A notebook was beside him, filled with his chicken scratch notes, and there were several papers strewn about him. Printed articles mostly, with underlined phrases and more notes in the margins. The fact that his bottom lip had pulled down into a sort of pout escaped his attention as he tried to work.

“What are you talking about?” The only reason he was home with all his work was that the weather was too nasty to bike to the library. Unlike their dorm room, which had offered minimal distraction, their apartment was filled with distractions. It was why he so often holed up in the school library, and it was why it had taken him a while to settle into things now.

“I might have had a few shots.”

“I think the only thing in question here is whether they were shots or full size drinks." As long as he wasn’t drinking straight from the bottle, that would have worried Eamon. Right now, he was mostly amused with his inebriated boyfriend.

“Maybe it’s time to go home?” he offered. It was late and the partying had gone on long enough. Best for Archer to get some water, take a couple painkillers, and then sleep.
