“Okay, if you’re sure,” Ellis said as she sat herself down on one of the empty beds, “it’s really good, I like Matilda as a character so that’s good. Can you imagine just suddenly realising you had powers?”
“That would be totally amazing” Ellis said and laughed a little. “What would be the first thing you would do if you actually found out you had that sort of powers?”Â
Grimacing slightly at the answer, Brooklyn looked over at Ellis with an almost pitying look on her face. “I don’t know how you can do shifts that are that long. I would have passed out.” It may have sounded like a joke, but Brooklyn was pretty sure that would be what happened if she was in Ellis’ shoes. “Are you finished now? So you can go home and get actual rest.”
Ellis laughed and shrugged. “I’m not quite sure how I do it either. I guess it’s just the rush of the actual job itself that makes it impossible to fall asleep and sometimes to even feel tired” She explained. “No, not really” She laughed and shook her head. “That’s why I came and slept in here”
Calvin nodded his head a bit and then lay back against the bed, looking up at his friend. “How’s everything going with them? I can’t imagine either of them are enjoying being laid up. They both like to move a lot and keep busy…I mean your whole family does.”
Ellis laughed and nodded. “Definitely, my whole family loves being up and around. They are dealing with it, which doesn’t mean that they actually enjoy it.” It was actually quite the oposite of that. “But they are hanging in there. I’m sure they will be alright”Â
Shaking her head quickly at Ellis’ suggestion, Brooklyn put the phone back into her pocket. “I think your sleep is a little more important than calling someone. It was only about a group project anyway so it can wait.” She shrugged, reaching up to tuck some hair behind her ear. “What’s got you so tired though?”
Ellis simply nodded. She really didn’t mind if Brook made her call, but she wasn’t going to insist on it. “The longest shift ever” She admitted and then laughed. “I have been working like a crazy person. I had to stay on call last night with a patient, and then I worked all day today and if I’ve got to be honest I don’t even know how I am able to talk.”Â
“Shit, Ellis,” Brigham cursed under his breath when the box of scrubs he’d been reaching for tumbled to the tiled ground with the most disruptively loud thud. “I’m clumsy?” He offered his best excuse with a whisper, moving slowly to the floor to clean up his mess. “I’m sorry. Go back to bed.”Â
Ellis basically jumped out of bed the second she saw Brigham. She hadn’t been able to see him since what happened at the hospital, and she was actually quite happy that he was okay. “No, you’re okay” She quickly replied. “I’m glad to see you’re okay! How have you been feeling?”Â
The Torres-Robbins and Shepherd kids had spent a lot of time together when they were little and so Calvin had a special place in his heart for all of them, especially Ellis as they were so close in age. He flopped onto the bed next to her and shrugged his shoulders. “Just been working a ton. And then with what happened at the hospital…I’ve been spending a lot of time with family and Kaitlin. How are you doing?”
Ellis nodded with her head. What had happened at the hospital had definitely made everyone just want to be with their family, at least it had been that way for her. “Basically the same way” She said and then shrugged. “I’ve been working like a crazy person, while trying to take care of Cora and  my dad.”Â
“I’m sorry,” she explained again, smiling at Ellis. “This room is meant for sleeping, so I think that you should get first dibs,” she said, “I’m reading Matilda, I’ve seen the movie but now I’m reading the book.”
“Trust me, I’m okay. I think I got enough sleep anyway.” She said to her with  smile. “Really? I actually never read Matilda. Have you liked it so far?”Â
“This is true. Not gonna like I’m kinda okay with having missed maybe half of those.” With a chuckle he smiled, sipping his beer once more. “I do wish I could tell you though. It would make me feel better being able to vent.” Looking over at his daughter who was coloring he sighs softly “I really hope so. I’d like to be home for at least a year before having to go back but it all depends on what happens. If the world goes to shit it’ll be sooner than later.”Â
“The last one we had, I ended up ordering pizza with Gabby” She said and then laughed a little. Ellis shrugged and nodded with her head. “Well, just know that I’m like a sealed vault if you ever feel the need to go to someone” She said with a small smile. “Then we better hope the world keeps its shit together.”Â
“Oh please, I’m sure it was relatively easy to go on about your days without me.” Taking a deep breath he shakes his head, sipping his beer before looking over at her. “Just–Nothing good. It’s really…I just really shouldn’t talk about it. Confidential information and all–just know things won’t ever be the same.” The hardest part of his job was he wasn’t allowed to talk about it. “If it had been on the news I could talk about it–but since nobody actually gave a shit it wasn’t really media worthy.”Â
“Never said it was impossible” She teased and laughed a little. “But yeah, we missed you. Specially when my parents and your parents go crazy and like having family dinners. It’s better when you’re around” Ellis explained. “Oh, don’t worry about it. I totally understand.” Ellis didn’t want Oliver to get into any kind of trouble. “Will you be here for long?”
“I can’t even tell you how god it feels to finally be home. Hell being in America is almost making me feel like I’m spoiled.” Sipping his beer he leans back in his seat. “Hopefully I don’t have to leave Savannah for too long. I don’t know if I can handle that all over again. Especially not with what happened last time.”Â
Ellis listened to what Oliver was saying and simply nodded with her head. “We definitely missed you around” She said to him. “Quite a lot, actually” She added after a couple of seconds. “What happened last time?” Ellis asked with curiosity.Â
Charlie laughed and nodded as she made her way towards the exit, “Alright let’s go.” she smiled and shrugged, “I’m alright. What about you how is everyone?” she asked her cousin.Â
“I’m glad to hear that” She said with a smile. “Well, Cora is doing better. And my dad is also doing better after he finally had the surgery” Ellis explained. “Everyone else is doing pretty good.”Â
Maisy instantly felt bad when she heard Ellis speak. “I’m sorry, I was just looking for somewhere quiet to read,” she explained, her fingers switching the light switch back off again.
“Oh, hey Maisy.” She felt sort of guilty about the fact that she had snapped at the young girl. “You can read here.” Ellis said while sitting up. “What are you reading?”Â
Walking into the on call room, Brooklyn assumed it would be empty since it wasn’t locked. When she heard a voice, she jumped slightly before holding up her phone. “I needed to make a call, this was the first quiet place I found. Not the best excuse, but eh.”Â
Ellis shook her head and laughed. “You’re okay” She said to Brooklyn. “There’s usually nobody in here, but I was just so tired.” Ellis explained to her. “But you can make your call. I can leave if you want me to?”Â
“My excuse is that I haven’t seen you in ages and I’m adorable so you can’t be mad at me.”
Ellis really wanted to be mad at Calvin, but it was basically impossible. A smile crossed her face and she sat up. “Hey!” Ellis said. “Did you disappear or something? I’ve missed you”Â
“Sorry, sweetheart.” Lexie said softly, pressing a kiss to her forehead. “Dinner’s ready though and you should eat something. Then you can come back up here to sleep.”
Ellis incorporated herself and nodded. She was actually quite hungry, so it was perfect timing. “Of course, just give me a minute” She rubbed her eyes for a couple of seconds. “I feel like I haven’t slept in forever.”Â
“Obviously not all interns,” Amelia corrected herself, noting Ellis’ frown. “Just the stupid ones.” She chuckled quietly, playfully winking at her niece. Amelia took the chart from Ellis, a slightly confused expression on her face. “I asked for this?”
Ellis made a gesture with her hand, showing that it really didn’t matter. She was already used to it. After all, more than half of the attendings really hated interns. “Uh... That’s what I was told.” She replied.Â
“Huh?” Ellis opened her eyes and rubbed her eyes before she turned around to look at the person that had just called her. “You better have a really really good excuse for you to be waking me up. I’m so tired I can barely function”Â
