Just finished watched the second ep of season 2 of Stranger Things with the other half (it’s his first watch through of s2).

Steve didn’t know Nancy was going to be at Jonathan’s house.  He literally just went to make things up with Jonathan.  He wasn’t trying to win Nancy back or impress her or anything with an ulterior motive.  He’d called his ‘friends’ out for being assholes, he’d realised the path he was on and the person he was becoming and he didn’t like it and he took IMMEDIATE and PROACTIVE steps to change.  He didn’t wait until he next saw Jonathan in town, he went out of his way to go to his house, to his territory, in effect put himself at Jonathan’s mercy - bearing in mind Jonathan had already battered seven shades of shit out of him only a few hours earlier - to apologise for the way he had acted.  Not even “well I was an asshole and you beat me up, so we’re even now,” he took full responsibility for his actions irrespective of what Jonathan had done.

There are so few men in fiction who make THAT much of a turnaround and do it so completely and selflessly with no excuses and no whining about how unfair things have been for them when they haven’t really.  Honest to god I wish I knew someone who had seen this so we could cry together for hours about how glorious Steve Harrington is.

         the pair sat on her bed, both holding the corners of a book that read ‘ the bfg ‘ They would take turns reading aloud, and they were now on this night in the middle of the book. ‘It’s worse…’ she started softly, inhaling with furrowed brows, 

        ‘this..is a real—a real...’ seemingly frustrated at how big this word was. jim made reading fun and imaginative. why couldn’t she capture the same with her own voice? probably because she struggled with the words. ‘ whoppsy—- grobswitcher ! ‘ a mouthful, clearly. eyes widened and mouth was agape while she looked over at him, exasperated by the story or the word, she wasn’t sure. a small laugh escaped her, eleven adjusting herself on her pillow.

       the creature the big friendly giant was trying to catch in the book seemed all too familiar. sometimes she had this habit where she’d forget to share, and being so sucked into the book, that’s exactly what she did. eyes not even blinking while pupils scanned the page excitedly, gripping onto it like you would have to pry the binding from her dead hands.

Jim had to hold himself back from saying the words for her, knowing that she was trying as hard as she could. When she finally got ‘grobswitcher’, his broke out into a proud smile. Giving a nod in encouragement.

“Yeah, it’s a word the writer made up. I had trouble with it too.” He replied with a chuckle before giving her a nod to continue. As she began to read silently, Jims eyebrows rose and he smirked. Shaking his head with a silent chuckle as he watched her hands grip the book tightly.

“Hey... you’re supposed to be reading to me, remember?”
