Communication - Life is not all about things. Life is all about relationships. It's about connecting and being with other people. I have nothing againist social media or the other forms of electronic communication, but if they are our primary forms of communication we'll have a real problem understanding what love and relationships are all about. Life Lessons from Santa’s Work Shop Lesson Six – Keep the Childlike Fantasy (Part One) Gideon, a retired Elf shares some life lessons learned while he worked for the big man, Santa Claus. Some say Santa Claus is unique to American culture and others believe he has a connection to Saint Nicholas who lived in the 4th century (know as the patron saint of children all over the world). They are both right! From the very beginning, Christmas was and is a celebration of God’s goodness, promise, and generosity. Each one of us (Elves included) has to find that reason to celebrate and make Christmas uniquely ours. I know for a fact that Santa doesn't want to be the centerpiece of Christmas, rather, for all of us to focus on the mystery and magic that is Christmas. I would never suggest that you need limit your creativity and imagination when you reach a certain age. Fantasy is a part of childhood! I’ve heard suggestions over the years that parents have to choose between the foundation of their Christian faith and the enchantment of imagination. Not so. Lesson Three – The Magic Many people wonder where the magic at the North Pole originates from and how can it be captured all year long? If you’re thinking the meaning magic, is like “things” that seem to be created out of nothing - you would be wrong, because hard work and resources are used every day at the North Pole. The magic at the North Pole, come from the Peace at the North Pole. The magic doesn’t generate the Peace, Peace generates the magic. True Peace can only be found in a relationship with God. A scripture from the bible that was written a long, long time ago tell of a future event, For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace - (Isaiah 9:6 NKJV). This is the foretelling story of God’s planned gift to the world, Jesus Christ His only Son. And it’s only through a friendship with Jesus that we can have that Peace of Christmas all year long. Life Lessons from Santa’s Work Shop Lesson One – Believe Gideon, a retired Elf shares some life lessons (over the next four weeks) learned while he worked for the big man, Santa Claus. The most often question asked of me is, What is it like working for Santa? Followed closely by, What is he really like? Working for Mr. Claus is magical, and I’ll share more about that in a later lesson? What is he Really like? People do want to know. He believes the most important instructions are from God and we are asked to accept His love and to spread that love wherever and whenever we can. While I’ve have never known him to endorse a specific religion, or denomination, He does believe that God created the universe and all that is in it. You see, Santa cares less about if you believe in him, but cares more about you believing in God. Some people can be very critical of the commercialization of Christmas over the years, in reality, if the Christmas season points people to remembering the Greatest gift God gave to the world, what can be wrong with that? Every time you celebrate Christmas, should build upon the last Christmas, and that means you should be thinking less and less about yourself and more and more about others, like being kind, sharing love, helping others, and giving gifts. And don’t wait for Christmas to do this, you can do it every day of the year– that’s what Santa believes. At the North Pole there is a bell station, and it is there to be rung if someone is lost or in need of help.
