Our 2 year anniversary party last night was a blast, thank you all for coming and celebrating with us! <3

Except from our birthday, last night we also achieved a tiny milestone. We reached 1000 likes on Facebook, 1000 people that are interested in this team! So we would like to take just one moment of your time and share some love.

From the bottom of our heart we want to thank each and every one of you for supporting and loving this team for the last two years. We are an 100% volunteering community, so your support means everything to us to continue doing all these wonderful things. Also, a huge thank you, with all the love included, to all the amazing people participating in this team, dedicating their time (and sometimes money) just for a cause they believe in. You are all one of a kind!

It's been two great years in which we achieved things we wouldn't even dream to when we started, but mostly had so much fun! Cheers to many more 🍻

Many of you might not want to believe it, but summer is over and so is vacation. Back to business people. But the good thing is we're back too, more organised and full of energy. Cheers to a great year :)

FemaleLegends Vol.I - Anita Borg

Hello again and welcome to our new activity, the female legends trend! This trend is about getting to know those women that successfully distinguished themselves in STEM fields. Expect this to be a monthly trend, if not more often. It’s about time for women to familiarize with some female role models in a male-dominated field.

Our first legend will (obviously) be Anita Borg, an excellent technologist as well as a fearless visionary that inspired and motivated many women to involve with technology.

Anita Borg (1949-2003) was the founder of the Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology as well as a member of the research staff at Xerox’s Palo Alto Research Center. Born in Chicago, she received her Computer Science PhD from New York University at 1981 and worked as a programmer before, during and after her studies. Her dissertation was on operating system synchronization efficiency and she developed a fault tolerant Unix-based operating system, first for Auragen Systems Corp. of New Jersey and then with Nixdorf Computer in Germany [1]. Before her research career at Xerox she worked for many years at Digital Equipment Corporation, also as a programmer, where she developed and patented a method for generating complete address traces for analyzing and designing high-speed memory systems [1]. While working as a programmer, Borg was passionate about an important issue she started to notice: the lack of females involved with technology. Firstly she founded Systers, an email network for women in tech; during their meetings she actually observed this absence. Eight years later, she and Telle Whitney founded the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing, a conference from women scientists to women scientists. Finally in 1997, Borg founded the Institute for Women and Technology, an organization focused on women’s involvement on science and tech, which on 2003 was renamed to Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology in order to honor her legacy. Καλώς ήρθατε στο πρώτο από τα τέσσερα μέρη του σεμινάριου Photoshop που διοργανώνει η ομάδα SheSharp, με στόχο την κάλυψη της ύλης για την Πιστοποίηση Photoshop της Adobe. Το σεμινάριο γίνεται με την υποστηριξη του City College, στις εγκαταστάσεις του οποίου θα πραγματοποιηθούν τα μαθήματα και απευθύνεται σε όλους όσους έχουν τη διάθεση να μάθουν κάτι καινουριο ή/και να εμβαθύνουν τη γνώση τους στη χρήση αυτού του πολύ ισχυρού εργαλείου. Η ύλη χωρίζεται σε τέσσερα μέρη και θα καλυφθεί στα επιμέρους μαθήματα σύμφωνα με το παρακάτω πρόγραμμα:

1. Εξοικείωση με τα βασικά εργαλεία, χρωματικές διορθώσεις και απλές συνθέσεις 07/05/2015 2. Clipping και raster μάσκες, layer styles και εξελιγμένες συνθέσεις 14/05/2015 3. Vector μάσκες και γραφικά, smart objects και φίλτρα 21/05/2015 4. Εξελιγμένες τεχνικές και σχεδίαση website από το μηδέν 28/05/2015

Ο κάθε συμμετέχων θα πρέπει να έχει μαζί του τον προσωπικό του υπολογιστή με εγκατεστημένο το πρόγραμμα Photoshop. Για όσους δεν διαθέτετε προσωπικούς υπολογιστές - ή Photoshop -, ελάτε με φίλους που διαθέτουν :D Επιπλέον, λόγω περιορισμένου χώρου και για την καλύτερη δυνατή απόδοση των συμμετεχόντων, ο αριθμός των θέσεων είναι περιορισμένος. Επομένως εάν θέλετε να παρακολουθήσετε το workshop παρακαλούμε να κάνετε register στο link που ακολουθεί: http://shesharp.org/photoworkshop (η κράτηση θέσης ακυρώνεται ένα τέταρτο πριν την έναρξη του workshop). Δεν μπορούμε να εγγυηθούμε την είσοδο σε όποιον δεν έχει κάνει εγγραφή. Επίσης, παρακαλούμε να προσέξετε ότι για κάθε ένα από τα τέσσερα μέρη του σεμιναρίου θα πρέπει να κάνετε εγγραφή εκ νέου στο eventbrite καθώς οι θέσεις δεν κατοχυρώνονται για όλα τα event.

Τέλος, λόγω της φύσης του χώρου οι συμμετέχοντες παρακαλούνται να είναι εκεί στην ώρα τους για να ξεκινήσει στις 7 ακριβώς το workshop, καθώς η διαθεσιμότητα του χωρο[χρόνου] είναι συγκεκριμένη και πρέπει να τελειώσουμε στην ώρα μας!
