Sharing some happy news.🌻 5 years ago when I had a different job as a graphic designer, I went to an open studios in my city for some inspiration purely as an art appreciator. When I walked in & saw everyone working, making paintings etc. I felt chills and déjà vu. I walked home and cried because I hadn’t made anything in such a long time. It felt like I’d missed the boat... But this visit lit a fire under my ass to make things again, even though it felt like I was a late bloomer. 🥀 Last month I saw a post that this same studio was offering rentals, so I went to take a look. The tiny one with no window (the only one I could afford) had just sold but the guy showed me another much bigger one that had a wall of windows. I’ve never had a studio outside of my home, let alone a space with even 1 window! I loved it so much that I had to say yes even though it was out of my budget. I rationalized that I’d just take on extra design gigs to pay for it... Then 2 days later some amazing collectors bought my large unicorn “antenna” for a forestal shrine they’re building. This sculpture had been sitting in my living room for over a year waiting for a new home. Half of the sale paid for the studio & the rest funded a grant that I’ve been creating with Jersey City to help young women of color in the arts. 💛🤎🖤💚 *will share more about that later :) For the past few weeks I’ve been setting up my new space. There’s so much light in here. It feels like heaven! It seems like a strange time to be celebrating but the timing is out of my hands. 👾 #perfecttiming #celebrating🥂#dreams #wishes #happy #artstudio #jerseycityartist #milestones #inthemoment #bloodsweatandtears https://www.instagram.com/p/CE66Pstl4yN/?igshid=kkt3frbgh91l
