Formalities had definitely been in play since they had met, he was right on that account. “Saturday? Yeah, I uh…” Oh crap, that thing Revekka said earlier. She could ask about getting the night off. It was perfect.

Whatever, it didn’t matter. Rojas nodded, waving her hand, mostly brushing the thoughts away in her head. “Yeah, of course, I can ask for the night off. It’ll be fun.”
"That's great, if you can't get that night off, don't worry about it, I'm not going anywhere." Did that sound stalkery? It might have, a little. "Is there anywhere in town you really want to go, or should I try and figure something out? I've been in town a few years, so I know some places, but I don't generally go out all that much, but I'm sure we can find a place that we'll both like."

Rojas wasn’t sure how to answer. The obvious answer was in front of her: Yes, sure, that’d be great. Something that showed she was happy to oblige. But this felt… new, all of a sudden. The doctor smiled, pushing some loose strands of hair back. “Er.. yeah. That sounds great, actually. Something other than work and.. work.” Honestly, the only thing she actually knew about Canyon was whatever was on his medical record. Getting to know him over dinner sounded pleasant, to say the least.
He was a little shocked, he hadn't expected her to actually say yes, "Oh, um, great. It's been so...formal and medical between us, it'd be nice to just go out and have some fun, don't you think?" He cleared his throat, he should probably wait until he was feeling better before he took her out, but otherwise things were looking pretty good, "Are you available on Saturday? I'm sure we could find someone great to go and just talk and get to know each other better."

"Are you asking me on a date?" Wow, that came out just.. wrong. Wrong. Horrible. Rojas shifted on her chair, looking down at her watch. But really. Was he asking her on a date? "I just kind of.. want to know the implications of this dinner." That wasn’t sounding any better, but she was trying to get it across that she wasn’t offended by the offer. Surprised? Yes.
"I..." okay, what did he say here? She was giving him an out and he could take it if he wanted to, but he found he didn't want to. "Yeah, if you're interested, I'd love to go out, and get to know you better, especially in a way that didn't involve me being sick or you hunting me down to try and vaccinate me. What do you say?"

Rojas was having another paperwork day. Surgeries had been scheduled for later in the evening, and nothing had come up quite yet. She was wondering how Canyon was doing— his vaccinations had gone well enough, which was great, and she hadn’t seen him in the medbay. Rojas had considered a trip down to the garage, but she would have felt awkward if she didn’t have a good reason as to why she was making the trip downstairs.
So when she heard the knock on the door, Rojas was almost a little relieved to see Canyon. His voice was definitely problematic to her, though. “A sore throat, really. Come on in, Canyon.” Rojas put down her pen, sitting up in her chair. “I was just doing some paperwork, no big deal.”
"Awesome, thanks. I looked it up, because honestly, most doctors terrify me, it was drilled into my head as a kid, that they're all insane and like to cut people up, but you seem much less horrifying than most of them. Anyway, according to Google, it's pretty common to have a sore throat and a few other symptoms after a flu shot, but I was under the, apparently mistaken, belief that it was supposed to go away eventually...I don't know if you know anything about that, but I thought I'd check."
He smiled and went into her office, "Also, now I don't know, maybe I'm way off base here, but I was thinking, after you assist me in discovering a miraculous cure for this terrible ailment, I could thank you by...I don't know, taking you out for dinner or something, if that sounded agreeable for you, and I eventually regain the ability to swallow, of course."
