Ok so… Lily’s coming back right?
“Oh hey, there's an afterlife in the cookie universe, oh and um remember how a bunch of important characters just died recently… yeah that sucks for you Hollyberry cookie, you know like– like how you experienced great loss in the dark enchanted war? Yeah no, just saying you know, just um throwing lore out there to uh, lighten up the mood... And stuff”
Just throwing it out there… for no other reason
And oh- and this? You know how every character in the trailer is going to be plot relevant in some way, focusing on the TBD, dragons… and oh Lily’s here! Well she’s dead, you know she’s walking up the steps of cookie after life cuz… she's dead. She's dead–
Ok enough goofs and gaffs, I’ve made two posts about this already but I do think Lily is coming back to the story, at least in spirit.
I wonder how the fandom would react to that, I know most people have been begging for her return, but I think that's more for personal love for her character rather than actual storytelling potential and how it works in the current narrative (which is valid, I know a lot have lost interest because of her death)
But I don’t want Lily to be back just for the sake of it. With the greater focus on the Witches they seem to be putting in this arc, Lily should be relevant. But my worry lies in how early it would be to undo the ending of act 1.
I found a lot of weight that was put on Lily’s death. And to lift it so soon would be weird to me. I’m mostly speaking out of experience with another death defying character: Shadow the Hedgehog, whose return was… a mixed bag as much as I adore him. The difference is Lily has been haunting the narrative since the beginning, bringing her back so soon after her climatic end would not work as well as it did in Sonic Heros.
What I’m saying is that there is a lot of care and delicacy that needs to be put into bringing her back into the story. To not only resolve the consequences of Act 1 without undermining it and its theming/messaging, but also to make it feel significant and not understay the re-welcome. And as much as I love to defend crk’s storytelling, the current pacing of the arc, has been struggling to let characters fully breathe (although ep 6 gives me a lot of hope).
Anywho, this is less “cope/hope” and more speculation and discussion. I’m honestly fine if Lily doesn’t get to live again (but she realllllly deserves to) but there is a lot for me to look forward to in Timeline of Fates, there are so many directions this story can go, the potential is limited only by screentime.
