“Yeah lots of horny people.” he said and asked if she was teaching him to write smut to which she rolled her eyes. They left and went home stopping at the store to get some groceries for dinner where Declan started to get cranky because Shiloh put him in the cart to stop him from running around trying to touch everything. He fell asleep on the car ride home and Shiloh put him in his bed where Bastet came to sleep next to him. Derry told him not to let him sleep too late or he wouldn’t sleep tonight. “He doesn’t often take naps anymore. He must be tired out from playing at day care.” His wife asked him if Declan did good there. “I think so. He was a but whiny when I dropped him off but when I came to get him he was playing with the kids.” 

He helped her put away groceries. “Can you believe in just a few months he’ll be in pre school? Then kindergarten next year.” Derry sighed and told him not to remind her. Their baby was not so much a baby anymore. While Derry started to make some homemade pizza for dinner, Shiloh went outside to check his green house since he didn’t have to worry about Declan. He decided to roll back the tarp of the pool and saw that the water looked a bit green from dead leaves and dirt that had fallen in over the winter. “I guess we’ll have to get someone to clean it.” He said to Sekhmet who had come outside with Shiloh. The Egyptian mau meowed and rubbed against his leg. “Dada!” He heard Declan as he had woken up from his nap and ran outside to see Shiloh. He pointed to the pool. “We can go in pool?” he asked.

Shiloh picked him up so he wouldn’t get too close. “Not today, Monkey. I’m going to have someone come to clean it. Maybe tomorrow while you’re with Papa.” he said. “Yah!” Declan said and he put him down. He rode on his bike for a while. It was just a small one with training wheels. “Pretty soon daddy will be teaching you to ride like a big boy.” he said. “Me baby.” Declan told him. “You’ll always be mummy and daddy’s baby. We won’t have any more, but you’re a big boy now.” he explained. Derry called them in for dinner. He followed his son and his wife told him that she had just gotten a call from another school. They had heard she did a lecture and wanted to know if she would come to do the same at theirs. She told him the name of the school and Shiloh stared at her for a moment before he sat down. She asked what was wrong. “Nothing. It’s just that that’s the school where my dad… you know. Where he died.” he told her.

“I know,” she said with a sigh. “You don’t mind, do you? I could…tell him I’m busy or something and…” Shiloh said that it was fine and that the choice was hers after all. She told him she still had time to think about it and helped Declan eat before he made a mess with his clothes and the tomato sauce. They finished dinner and Declan ran outside, followed by Shiloh and Sekhmet. Summer was getting closer and there was more light during the afternoon and night. It wasn’t that cold anymore so Derry went upstairs to take out some of their summer clothes and put back the winter ones back, such as coats and sweaters. She selected the ones Declan was going to be using next year and smiled when Elliot jumped from his cat tree and sat on top of them to knead. “I would love to leave you there, darling, but I have to put the clothes back.”

“Mama!” Declan ran inside and took her hand, running with her outside and almost making her trip. “What is it, love?” He pointed to the sky and to the moon, making her smile. “Yes, thatt’s the moon. Your uncle Conall would be proud of you for knowing.” He smiled and ran to Sekhmet who was digging in a spot where Shiloh had put new seeds. He cursed and ran to the cat, taking her in his arms and speaking in arabic to her. The egyptian mau stared at him and then put one of her paws on his mouth, making Derry laugh and said she didn’t want to listen to her daddy. Shiloh sighed and put her back on the ground to then go to her and hug her waist. “Would you be mad if I accept giving the lecture in that school?” she asked him. 

Shiloh shook his head and kissed her lips, saying that the memory was still painful for him but that he couldn’t stop her if she wanted to go there. “Alright, love,” she hugged them and both looked back to the house when they heard a bang. “What has he done now?” she sighed and went back inside to see him trying to reach for one of the apples that were on a bowl on top of the kitchen table. He had not been able to do it so he grabbed the bowl and everything came down. “Mama!” He whined and hugged her legs, making her roll her eyes at him. “I’ll help and after that yo go to bed, mister!” Shiloh said. Derry smirked and went back to the couch to open her laopt and make sure she had her class ready for tomorrow.

Shiloh knew that he wasn’t going to be able to go to see his wife when she started working at that school but first she had to finish the lessons at the other university in a couple weeks. He put Declan to bed and tried to fall asleep himself. Derry didn’t allow him to have sleeping pills in the house anymore after the time he took too many of them. Plus they would be a danger to Declan but it took him a while to fall asleep. He went to work the next day leaving Declan to sleep. After Amy told him what was happening that day, he got a text from Seth reminding him of Maddie’s birthday which was tomorrow and he had completely forgot that his niece was turning four. Seth said they werent doing anything big this year because his wife couldn’t handle a bunch of kids running around being loud. Maddie just wanted to have a fire outside, which was a little concerning to Seth that his 3 year old had asked for something like that. But it would mostly be family. The only other kids would be Declan and their cousin’s two children. 

He called Derry who said she would go shopping and get Maddie a present before she went to work. When he went home he told Declan they were going to have a party for cousin Maddie's birthday. "And me too!" he said. SHiloh explained that it wasn't his birthday as he had already had one and was going to have to wait until next year. To which the boy scowled and smacked his leg because he didnt understand why he couldn't just have one. Bas meowed and hissed as if to tell her human baby to behave and he picked her up to drag her to the floor to play with him. He asked Derry what she got for Maddie's present and she said some hair clips and jewelry in a little box because Celeste had mentioned taht she wouldn't leave her stuff alone and was getting into her make up sometimes and making a mess. "Shes only three she doesnt need to be doing make up." Shiloh said.

The next day they went over to Seth and Celeste's place after breakfast. They were having a fire pit and Seth had bought some hotdogs to roast dispite his wife's disgust and insistance on using veggie ones for her and Maddie. Maddie was driving around a little pink battery power car that her parents had got her and Declan ran over to try and push her out so he could drive. Shiloh sighed knowing that they would probably have to get him one so there was no fighting. Celeste asked Derry how the classes were coming and she explained where she had been asked to work. She noticed Seth's face and asked if it bothered him. He shook his head. "No, but I wouldn't go there. I know mum hates that school also. And besides people might be asking questions when they realize you have the same last name."

Shiloh nodded. “Yeah. They said its going to be a hot summer.” he said. “You should let you dad and aunts know they can use the pool any time they want.” He said knowing they were more of a risk to overheat at their age. Derry laughed and said her aunts would probably love to come over and see him and Seth in their bathing suits to which he rolled his eyes. They had their dinner and went to bed. After a few days passed Derry started her time at the university. For the first day Richard came over while Shiloh was at work to be with Declan.

 There was a day Richard wasnt available because he and the aunts were doing their volunteer work and Adela wanted to do her podcast so he had to come to Shiloh’s work and he arranged to have him at the daycare while he was working. When Shiloh first dropped him off he explained to him that Declan was going to play here while Shiloh worked in his office. Declan whimpered and hugged his legs. “I come with you, Daddy.” Shiloh shook his head. “Theres nothing for you to play with in Daddy’s office, it would be boring. You can play with these kids like a big boy and I’ll come by in a little while when I’m not busy.” He hugged his son and the day care teacher talked him into joining the group. 

Shiloh spoke to Johan who agreed to check on Declan as well because he knew him. Shiloh brought Declan out at lunch time. “We’re gonna leave early today Monkey. We’ll get some food and then maybe go see if your Mum is done her work.” He took Declan to the cafe and texted Derry while they ate a sandwhich together. They then went to the university where someone who worked there pointed them to the room she was teaching in. He lifted Declan up so he could see inside the window. “Mama!” He wiggled out of Shilohs arms and pushed open the door to run to Derry.

“Declan!” Derry smiled and hugged her son, picking him up and kissing his cheeks. “How are you, my love?” Declan hugged her neck and kissed her nose, making her smile. “Hey,” Shiloh kissed her and asked her how she was doing. “Tired but good. My class just finished and I’m ready to go home with you two,” she smiled. “Did you have a good day at work with daddy”? she asked Declan, placig him back on the floor. He nodded and looked around the class room. She took her laptop and bag before taking Shiloh’s hand. “Come on, Declan. It’s too soon for you to be in a class room as big as this one.” The little boy ran after them and took Shiloh’s hand. “I called my dad and he says he can take care of him tomorrow.”

Shiloh nodded and helped Declan to get in the car. Derry was going to be driving herself in the other because she didn’t think they were going to come and surprise her. “Why don’t we cook something yummy?” she asked him when they arrived home. “Or we could order?” she suggested while petting Bastet and Sekhmet who had come to her. Elliot was in his cat tree and stared at her and only came down when the other cats left her. “Where you fine on your own, my love?” she asked him, kissing his cheek and the cat meowed, making Shiloh roll his eyes. He picked up the menu of their favorite chinese restaurant and called to order. 

“I’m going to change,” Derry said, going upstairs to change into her pijamas to be comfortable. Elliot followed her and she smiled at him when he jumped on the bed. “Did you miss me, love?” she asked and he purred, rolling on the sheets and making her laugh. She walked downstairs agan and Declan ran to hug her legs. “My boy,” she poked his nose and kissed his head. Shiloh asked her about her classes and she said it was a lot of work. “I even had to give a few autographs because they recognized me,” she smirked. “Lots of people read my book during the pandemic.”

They went to the farm where Celeste slowly greeted them. She had a walking cast and was able to get around now. “But I still have to be careful. Would you mind helping me feed the animals this morning? Seth just left without doing it, of course. See if I give him breakfast tomorrow.” she muttered. “Yah! We help!” Declan said happily running to the door. They to the horse’s stable and fed them first. “Baby horsey!” Declan said. Celeste nodded. “She’s getting big, huh?” She let Declan give the baby horse a carrot and they continued on to feed the alpacas and sheep and the lastly the chickens and ducks. Then they went inside and Celeste made fafel for lunch.

Meanwhile at Shiloh’s work Amy greeted him and gave him the run down saying he had a meeting that afternoon with a potential new client who wanted to hire his team to develop a new software. He went to the meeting which went well and thankfully was over quickly, but Amy wasn’t in her office. She returned a few moments later. “Sorry Mr. Ramzi. I was a little late coming back from lunch because I was talking with my boyfriend.” she explained. “Boyfriend? My wife will be glad about that,” Shiloh muttered. “Sorry?” the woman asked and Shiloh shook his head. “Nothing. If you’d like you can leave early, after you’ve caught up on the emails and phone calls.” he told her and she thanked him. 

He drove home soon after and Declan ran to jump into his arms. “Daddy!” he said and Shiloh kissed his cheek. “Hello, monkey. How was your day?” he asked. Declan started talking about the animals at the farm. “I help.” he put him down and found Derry in the kitchen and smacked her bottom making her jump and turn around. He laughed “What if you turned to find out it wasn’t me? Maybe it was Seth.” he said and kissed her lips before she rolled her eyes and he and his twin had tried to trick her before. He asked her when she was starting her teaching and she said on Monday. “What about monkey? Who will watch him?” he asked. Derry said that he was going to Adela’s for some of the days she was working and for the shorter days he would go be with Richard for a few hours. “You know, the day care at my office is running again. Maybe he should come, just for a day or two. I don’t want him to forget how to socialize with other kids. He’ll be starting preschool this fall.” Shiloh pointed out.

“Well, if you’re sure and if Declan is sure then I don’t see why not,” she said looking at their son who was playing with his legos. “And you’re right. He needs to socialize more,” she sighed. “It’s going to be strange for him, I suppose,” she turned to start working in the kitchen. “We will need to look for the perfect school for him, I don’t want him to just learn numbers and all that. I want him to be practical as well. Maybe the school can teach him how to paint, help you with the pants outside,” she smirked when he groaned, knowing that Declan caused more damage to the plants than anything else, just like Sekhmet that would dig to take out the seeds and play with them. “So, how was work?” she asked him with a smile.

He said that his new assistant had a boyfriend so there was nothing she should be worrying about. “I see,” she kissed his lips and giggld when Declan asked for a kiss as well. “Fine, fine,” she began to tickle him and he laughed. Bastet jumped on Derry’s back and smacked her head a few times, before running away and jump in the cat tree. “I think we’re going to need a new cat tree before the end of the year,” she sighed. “This one is too used and will probably fall if the three of them sleep here,” she commented. Shiloh said that Elliot was getting too fat and that’s why it was going to fall. “Don’t be mean with my baby,” she said to him, going to find the cat. “Isn’t he the cuttest?” she picked him up and kissed his head a few times.

She cooked dinner with Shiloh helping her and setting the table. Declan took a seat on the chair by himself and began to eat. The cats moved under the table to get some food since it was chicked and he had already spoiled them by dropping pieces here and there when his dad was not looking. They had ice cream as dessert and then Declan asked to go outside to the yard, taking Shiloh’s hand on his to pull him. “Dada, come yard!” He yelled and ran to the pool but Shiloh grabbed him. “Pool, pool!” He yelled, pointing  at him. “Do you think the pool will be ready in a few weeks?” she asked her husband.

Derry smiled and kissed him back. “Im sorry, love. You know, I’m getting old and most guys starts looking for younger women when the wife starts showing up with more winkles or gets fat,” she said, making him snort. Shiloh said that he wasn’t going to do that and she nodded. “I believe you,” she hugged him when he rested his head on his chest and asked about her interview. “Well, I got the job and they’re going to be sending me the lesson plan and other things in the next few days,” she smiled. “I’m excited about it. Nervous but excited all the same.” Shiloh went to the bathroom and brushed his teeth before joining his wife in bed and hug her. She closed her eyes and both fell asleep to wake up the next day with Declan asleep next to her. 

“What are you doing here, love?” she kissed his forehead and smiled when she saw Bastet sleeping on Shiloh’s pillow. She stretched her arms over her chest and then put on her robe to go downstairs and start preparing breakfast. Her husband was at work and she sent him a message, asking how he was doing. He replied a few moments later saying that he was going to be having dinner with Johans and other members of the company. “Well, that means it’s just you, me and the rest of the family, Elliot,” she said, looking at the black cat who was waiting for her to drop a piece of ham. “Mama!” Declan yelled from upstairs and she smiled at him. 

“Good morning, love,” she giggled and kissed his cheek when he hugged her legs. “Up!” he said and hse sighed, groaning to pick him up. “You’re getting too big for me to carry you like a baby,” she said, helping him sit at the table. “What do you want for breakfast?” She asked him and he said he wanted mork and muffins.”Mork and muffins? We’ll add some fruit as well.” She fed the cats and then helped him with his food. “You’re a big boy now, love. You can use a fork just fine,” she said when he whined and stared at her, hoping his mom could help him. “What do you think we go and visit aunt Celeste today? She’s still sad about Vanilla so maybe we can buy something yummy and take her to the farm?” she asked and he nodded. “Yah!”

“I’m going to leave you with your papa, monkey.” Derry said to Declan. “Mom has to go to an interview and she can’t go with you,” she added, poking his cheek and making him laugh. The university had answred back with an email saying that they wanted to talk to her before she started her job. It was hers already but they needed to give her the lesson plan and explain to her how the system worked. Since Shiloh was at work, and she had the interview after lunch, she could go on a bus and surprise him in his office. “Papa!” Declan smiled when Richard walked in. “Im sorry to bother you, dad, but…” Richard said it was no trouble and that both would go on a walk. “Cookies!” Declan said, taking his hand. “Maybe after you finish your lunch, love.” She said with a smile and laughed when he crossed his arms over his chest. 

Derry finished her lunch, kissed her son and Richard and then took her bag and keys to leave the house. The bus stop was just around the corner and she waited a few minutes until it arrived. She took her phone out when she realized she had a missed call from Celeste and called her back to ask her what was going on. Celeste asked her if she was going to put Declan on preschool this year and Derry answered that it was time but she still needed to talk to Shiloh about it and make some reserch to find the perfect school. She arrived at the univeristy and went to the building where she was going to have her interview. The man in charge came to greet her and asked her to join him in his office. A few minutes later she came out and thanked him.

She called her dad to tell him she got the job and giggled when he gave the phone to Declan. “Mama, home?” he asked and she told him she would be there with dad soon. She took anotther bus to go to Shiloh’s work and arrived a few minutes later. She walked through the doors and took the elevator to the fifth floor with a smile on her face. “Hey, Derry,” Johans said when he saw her. “Came here to give Shiloh a surprise?” She nodded and he let her go right ahead. A few people asked her about Declan since they had known him since he was a baby. “I’ll be sure to bring him another time,” she promised, stopping outside Shiloh’s office to see a woman standing next to him. She frowned because she thought Kevin was going to be there. “Hey, husband,” she said, walking inside.

Shiloh turned around. “Hey. What are you doing here? I thought you had the interview today?” he asked. She said she was done early and wanted to stop by. Amy had come in to drop off some paperwork so he introduced them. “You must be the famous Mrs. Ramzi.” the woman said. “It’s lovely to meet you.” she said before she asked Shiloh if he needed anything else and he said no. Derry stared at him and asked who was she. “She’s filling in for Kevin. He’s on holidays.” he explained. Derry said that she was going to call Kevin and tell him to come back and Shiloh rolled his eyes. He finished up for the day and told Amy he was leaving and would see her tomorrow.

They drove home after picking up dinner and when they got in the house Richard came with Declan who was holding a feather. “Look!” he said and Richard explained he had found it on the ground along with a few rocks and insisted on bringing them home. “Its seems he’s becoming quite the collector” Shiloh said and thanked Richard for watching him. He noticed Derry was still quiet and asked what she was angry about. She said that woman at his work and he sighed. “Don’t be riciculous.” he said. “Declan tell your mother shes being ridiculous.” he said. “Mama you dickless.” Declan said and Shiloh snorted. “Not what I said, but yes that too.” he kissed his sons cheek and told him to go help set the table. Derry came to help and asked Shiloh what he thought of his new secretary and whether or not he thought she was attractive. “Look, all I care about is if she knows how to do her job. She’s too young for me. She’s only 26. And I’m a married man.” he said. They ate dinner and he played with Declan for a while outside and moved some plants around in his green house. It would soon be time to start planting things now that the weather was changing.

When he went back in he put on a kids movie but Declan started yawning only a few minutes in. “No bed time.” he said when Shiloh picked him up. “Yes it is, monkey.” He put him down in his bed. When he went in his room his wife was staring at her book not addressing him and he sighed.”You’re still sulking over me having a female assistant.” he said. “Its stupid. She might have a boyfriend, you dont know. She’s not going to try and steal me.” when she ignored him he took he book and tossed it before he went on top of her pinning her hands to the bed. “You’re my wife. You’re the one I chose to be with for the rest of my life. I must be fucking crazy for that.” he smirked and kissed her hard.

It’s always filled with tourists during the summer months but you’re right. I miss Ireland a lot but I’m thankfull to be able to go there in just a couple of hours. We live so close and monkey likes it so I’m sure we’ll be going for many years.” She kissed his cheek and went to pick up monkey to wake him up so he could eat his dinner and go to bed. “I know you’re tired love, but you need to eat and then go to sleep, yes?” He nodded and rubbed his little eyes, taking a seat on the chair. Elliot moved to his side so he could drop some food for him but Derry gave him and then other cats dinner so they wouldn’t bother them.

After dinner, and with Declan already asleep, Shiloh took him upstairs to his room to change him into his pijamas. Bastet was already there waiting for him and meowed when he hugged her and kissed her forehead. He left the door half open for her to go downstairs if she wanted to and then went to join his wife in bed. Derry was on her laptop, replying to the email from the university. “I think I will talke the job. I mean, it’s only three days, the pay is good and morning classes that end by lunch time so I will have time to cook for Declan.” When Shiloh asked what she was going to teach, she said it was some courses about ortography, how to write a novel and create characters. “It’s more like an optional course they can take. They will give me the material but I can adapt it if I want to.”

They fell asleep and the next morning she woke up before Shiloh did and went downstairs to feed the cats. Declan was on his way to wake them up so she took him with her. “Do you want to come with me and visit aunt Celeste?” she asked him. “We could give her the stones and crystals you picked up at the beach,” she added and he nodded. “Alright.” She cooked breakfast and told Shiloh she could be taking Declan. He would be staying at home since he was feeling tired from their trip. She put Declan in his car seat and drove to the farm, picking up a cake on her way so Celeste had something sweet to eat. It was vegan so she wouldn’t have trouble. “Hey,” Seth waved at them when she parked the car and helped Declan. “Where’s Celeste?” He said she was inside the house with Maddie. Derry walked inside the house and saw her sitting on the couch with Vanilla Ice. “I’m sorry Celeste,” she said hugging her.

Celeste sighed heavily. “It was just so sudden. We didn’t even know she was sick. The vet said she might have had a bit of a flu or cold and was too old to fight it off.” she said wiping tears from her eyes. “At least she left us lots of her babies. They’re all related some how.” she laughed when Keanu jumped on the couch and meowed rubbing against Derry and smelling her clothes because he smelled Sekhmet. Derry went to go check on Declan and make sure he and Maddie were playing nicely in her room while Celeste made some tea. She saw Declan putting a princess crown on his head and laughed saying he looked lovely. He came out with her and ate some cookies and then went outside to see the animals on the farm. 

They went home after giving the gift they got in Ireland to Celeste. A few weeks passed and Easter came. They hid chocolate eggs for Declan around the house before he woke up. “I find eggs!’ he said bringing them to Shiloh who told him they were poop from the Easter bunny. “Poop?” he repeated and Derry smacked his arm telling him not to say that. Later they went to Adela’s for a Passover celebration and Celeste and Seth were there with Maddie. Celeste seemed happier and showed Derry a photo. “Look what Maddie got from the Easter bunny” she showed a picture of Maddie on the floor with a small brown rabbit. Seth muttered that they had enough damn animals and Maddie was too spoiled. “Me want bunny!” Declan said when he saw the picture and Shiloh told him they had three cats and they were not getting more pets which made him scowl. After they had their dinner they went home.

When the holiday was over, it was back to Shiloh’s regular work schedule. He was surprised when he came in and found Kevin’s desk empty instead of the man coming in to greet him as usual and give him his schedule. He saw Johans come into his office and asked if Kevin had been fired. The man laughed. “No, he’s on holidays for a month. Remember? Going to America to see his family.” he said. A young woman with long brown hair wearing a short skirt walked in and introduced herself. “Mr. Ramzi, it’s a pleasure. I’m Amy, and I’ll be your assistant while Kevin’s away. I look forward to learning the ropes around here. I’ve heard all about the work you’ve done and your apps.” she said and Johan explained that Amy was an intern but she had a lot of experience. The woman offered to get Shiloh some coffee or something to eat. “No, thank you. I’m alright.” he said. She went out of the office for a moment and Johans leaned over. “I know your wife doesnt want a woman working with you but we’re very short staffed. I hope she’s not upset about it. Amy’s an attractive woman. Even as a gay man I can see that.” he laughed. Shiloh rolled his eyes and sat down at his desk.

“Dada, come see!” He reached for Shiloh’s hand and smiled at him. Derry took some more pictures until the parade finished. “We eat!” Their son yelled, making almost everyone cover their ears. They went to a nice restaurant just around the corner and walked right in intstead of staying outside waiting. Derry had reserved the table just in case there were too many people and she was right. Shiloh helped Declan sit and joined his wife and the rest of her family. “Do you want to eat pish or chicken?” she asked Declan and he said that he wanted the chicken. They ordered the food and waited for a few minutes until it finally arrived. Richard helped Declan take a drink of his juice and then cleaned his mouth with a napkin. 

They got some ice cream as a dessert and walked around the park before finally going home to pack and go to the beach cabin. Richard was going to be driving and taking the aunts but of course, Declan reached for him, whinning and begging to sit next to him. Shiloh shrugged and said it was alright. Derry helped his aunts change the car seat to theirs and told him to be a good boy. “He’ll probably fall asleep,” she smirked, covering him with a blanket and giving him his titty. Derry called Celeste and asked her how she was doing. “Like shit!” she said. “I want my Vanilla back!” she sobbed and then Seth took the phone, saying that he was thinking on staying at home and work from there for a few days because it was not good for her to be alone. 

She then called Adela to ask about the cats and she said they were doing good and that Elliot was sleeping next to her. “What about Bas and Sekhmet?” Adela said that thay were sleeping on the cat tree. “it’s cold here even when spring already started. How’s Shiloh and Declan? Are they eating well?” Shiloh told her to put her on speaking and asked her to please stop controling his eating habits and that he was fine. Adela asked to talk to Declan but Derry told him he was with his papa on the other car. They drove a few hours and they reached the cabin. “Me go to bitch!” Declan yelled, running to the beach with Shiloh behind him. She decided to start preparing dinner with her aunts. “I hope he doesn’t get his shoes all wet!”

Shiloh ran after him before he got to close to the water and caught him. “Come back here monkey. You’ll get sick.” he said. He put him down and followed him a long the beach as he paused every so often to pick up a rock or a shell and hand it to him. “Here, dada.” he said handing him a rock. “Diz one for you. And diz one for mama. Diz one for Bas. Diz one for Waffo.” he continued handing rocks to Shiloh until his arms were nearly full. “Daddy can’t carry all of these.” he said. “We’ll have to get your pail.” Declan ran to the house to get the beach toys they had left there years ago when they started bring him as baby. A ball and a shovel and pail with some sand toys. He played in the sand for a while digging a hole until the aunts called them inside the house. “Come in and eat lunch so that your mother isn’t accusing us of starving you.” Cece said. “You need to put some meat on your bones, dear. Like your brother Seth, he’s much more handsome.” Lizzie agreed and her sister shushed her.

Declan went back outside after lunch to chase the waves for a bit and started to yawn so Derry brought him inside. “He loves the beach.” Shiloh said. “He hasn’t asked for toons once he just wants to play outside all day here.” Derry said that it was getting cold ouy and she didn’t want him getting sick. By the time they drove back to the house Declan was fast asleep hugging his titty. They put him in between them on the bed because they knew they were all getting up early to take the ferry home the next day. When they woke up, they cleaned and packed up the house and then locked it up. “This might be the last time we stay here when we visit.” Lizzie said and Shiloh asked what she meant. “Well we’re going to be renting it out. It’ll be extra money for us and theres no sense in having the house no one uses. We can stay at the beach house when we’re here, unless there are no renters at the time.” 

They got on the ferry and after a few hours they were in London again. “The weather’s still nasty here.” Shiloh complained when he saw the grey skies. “Me go to bitch today!” Declan said. Shiloh sighed and said that there was no beach there. “But maybe soon it will be warm enough to go in the pool” he told him. “Pool!” he repeated. Shiloh went to check his emails while Derry was making dinner and saw when he came out that Declan was asleep on the floor with his arm around Bas. “I think the sea air did him good. He doesnt usually nap this time of day anymore.” Shiloh commented as he helped Derry by cutting some veggies. “Do you ever want to go back to Ireland?” he asked his wife knowing she sometimes missed it. “Maybe you can buy your aunts house. You and your secret lover, while I stay here.”

“Yes, not Mad, but if you knew that my dad loves her, you wouldn’t like that either, huh?” Derry said. “Huh?” Declan stared at her and she laughed to then kiss his head. They arrived to Ireland and inmediately went to the aunt’s house. They decided to cook lunch and then they would go out to enjoy the day. The parade would be the next day and they wanted to share this moment with little Declan. Shiloh offered his help but the aunts said that they had everything controled and he should just rest because he had dark circles under his eyes and he didn’t look healthy. “Your husband should eat more, Derry. That’s why his leg is always hurting so much, its only bone,” Lizzy said, making Derry snort and Shiloh roll his eyes. 

“Carrot!” Declan said, pulling at Lizzy’s leg when he saw her slicing one. “Oh, fine!” She said. “But just one piece, I don’t want to ruin your appetite.” He giggled and kissed her cheek when she lowered her head and then ran back to the libing room to sit on the floor and start coloring. “I thought he was going to get dizzy but he proved me wrong.” Richard said. “Well, he’s got irish blood and I remember you taking us to fish every year at the beach house so of course he was going to be fine,” Derry said with a smile. They recieved a call from Adela who showed them the cats and said that they were doing just fine but that Sekhmet wanted to go inside Shiloh’s office, probably looking for him. Elliot was being a sweetheart and Bastet was mostly napping on Declan’s blanket.

Shiloh offered to set the table with Derry and then helped Declan took a seat. “Stew!” he said when the plates were served. “I’m sure your mom makes an excellet stew, yes?” asked Richard and he nodded. They ate and then got ice cream for breakfast. Richard and the aunts decided to stay while Derry and Shiloh went to take a walk to a park. Shiloh asked if she used to come here often and she nodded. “It was right after Maggie left us. We came to stay with my aunts for a few months while dad started to work again,” she said with a small smile. She answered her phone when she got a call from Celeste and answered it to listen to her crying. Shiloh frowned and asked what was wrong but then Derry hugged him and said that Vanilla had passed.

Shiloh asked what the cat had died from. Derry said that they weren’t sure. She had just stopped eating so Seth had to take her to the vet. She stayed overnight and they were going to do some tests but she had passed in her sleep. Possibly just from old age. She was their oldest cat and had been Bastet’s mom, which made her the aunt to Sekhmet’s babies when Vanilla Ice had gotten her pregnant. Derry cried and said she didnt want anything to happen to their cats.Shiloh sighed. “I think those bloody beasts will out live all of us” he told her. Declan came over looking concerned. “Why sad mama?” he asked when he saw her tears. Derry sat him down and tried to explain that Maddie’s kitty Vanilla wasn’t going to be around anymore. “Nilla have owie?” he asked. Shiloh smiled and touched his head. “Not anymore, monkey. She went to a better place.” he knew his son probably didnt understand but it was good to at least try to explain because one day they were going to have to say goodbye to their cats and he knew how sad his son would be if anything ever happened to his beloved ‘Bas’. 

When they went home, they put Declan to bed in a spare room. They were going to go to the parade tomorrow and then the following day they would go to the beach cabin. Then they would go home. Derry called Adela to make sure that their cats were okay she said that she was enjoying having the house to herself. “Where’s Roberto?” asked Shiloh and she explained that he was away for the weekend with his kids. When they went to bed Derry suggested that some time tomorrow they should get some gifts for Celeste, Seth and Maddie as they ahd been through a lot lately with Celeste hurting her foot and now losing her beloved cat. Shiloh chuckled to himself as they lay in bed. “When I lived in my apartment, and Celeste was just my weird neighbor, she use to yell at me and blame little Elliot for getting her cat pregnant but there’s no way. He was just a kitten. And that would make him Bas;s dad.” he said. Derry sighed and told him to go to sleep. 

The next morning after breakfast the aunts told Declan that last night they saw a naughty leprechaun in the yard that that he left a present for him, but he had to go look for it. Declan of course believed this and went outside taking Richard with him while they looked everywhere and finally found some chocolate “gold” coins under a tree. “I find it!” he ran inside showing everyone. Derry gave him one chocolate and she told him no more because he was going to get more treats later. They put on his coat and drove to the parade. They wanted to go early to get a good spot. But knew Declan wouldnt like waiting the aunts and Richard offered to hold a spot while they went to a nearby shop to try and find a gift for Celeste. In a gift shop, they found a picture frame with some paw prints and had a nice little poem about losing a pet. “How about this? They could put a picture of their cat in it.” Shiloh suggested and Derry nodded. They also got some snacks to hold Declan over while they were at the parade. They returned not long before it started and it was already very busy. When it started Richard put Declan on his shoulders so he could see better. “Look!” he kept pointing to the dancers and the people playing instruments while Derry took pictures of him knowing one day these would be precious memories for him.

“A zombie virus was found on Siberia so we need to get ready for that too, I think,” she said to him and he groaned, rolling his eyes. “I didn’t want to tell you before because we were at the doctor, but I recieved an emal from the university and they want me to give some classes. It would be two hours in the morning and then one hour of administrative work. They want me to come in for an interview and I really want to do it, you know?” she took a seat next to him. “It would mean more money, specially if Declan starts preschool this year and more time for me to be outside home. I’m not complaining but the more Declan grows up, the more active he is. He needs to start making friends and learn more things than I can teach him.”

Shiloh sighed and said that she was right but he just wished that Declan could stay as a little boy. “I know,” she laughed. “I watched some of his old videos last night. He was so small and Bastet inmediately loved him, unlike Elliot who would just stare at him, wishing he was gone.” Shiloh commented that the cat still wished the same. “Probably, but he got used to him eventually,” she added to the smile at Declan when he showed her his drawing. “Good job, love. Hey, would you like to go to Ireland with Papa and your aunts?” she asked him and he nodded. “Good, I’ll reply to that email and then ask dad if he has ferry tickets or plane. I hope they’re ferry because I don’t want Declan to get dizzy in the plane.”

She then took Declan’s hand so he could go and play somewhere else to let Shiloh work. “Mork!” He said and she sighed, going to the kitchen to open the fridge and take a small bottle. “Now mom has to work as well, so you stay there and play with Bastet.” She told him while opening her laptop to answer the email from the univeristy and then call her dad to ask him about the trip to Ireland and if they could join them. “Sure, we would love to go with Declan. We’ll teach him lots of stuff, take him to many places and give you and your husband some peace and quiet,” he said and she smiled. “Thanks, dad. We’ll be going to plane or ferry?” she asked and he said that it was by ferry since most of the plane tickets for that date were almost out. Derry then went back to Shiloh’s office and took a seat on his lap. “Done with work?”

“I should be by now.” he said and kissed her lips. “What are you going to teach your class? How to write smut?” he asked squeezing her leg. “That’s probably what my dad would have rather taught than history.” he said remembering when his dad was alive and working at the university all the time. He always wondered what it would be like if he was still around and Declan had two “papas”. Even though occasionally he seemed to see him as “Pie”. His wife told him to get ready for bed so he showered and moved to the bedroom to go to sleep.

The week went by quickly and Shiloh had put in a request to have some time off for their trip to Ireland though they would only be gone for the weekend. Richard and the aunts wanted Declan to experience his first St. Patrick’s Day parade in Ireland as that was why they came three years ago right before it was cancelled because of the virus. Shiloh didn’t think it was that serious until late that year Seth was one of the people who got hit with it so badly he was in the hospital. Finally they were able to do things in public again and their son could experience things. They were leaving on Thursday to be in Ireland a day early and would be staying at the aunts old house. 

They packed everything they needed including warm clothes for Declan and his Hello “Titty” plushie he never left without. “Who’s going to watch our cats? Obviously your dad cant and Seth and Celeste will be too busy.” Shiloh pointed out and Derry told him to call Adela so he did. She agreed to come and stay at their house while they were gone so the cats would have company and everything they needed. Shiloh mumbled that they were going to ruin his hot tub and their bed but Derry just rolled her eyes. They woke up the next day and drove to the ferry. Once they parked they went up to the deck where Richard said he would meet them. Declan spotted him and ran to him “Papa!” Richard laughed and picked up. “Hows our little Irish lad?” he asked. “Me go to your house, Papa.” Declan  said. “Not Mad.” he added which made him laugh.

He carried Declan back inside the house and he rubbed his eyes and yawned. Bastet meowed and followed them upstairs. Shiloh changed his clothes into his pijamas and then put him on the bed with the cat next to him. Then he walked downstairs and joiend Derry on the couch with a glass of wine. “Long day,” she said with a sigh. “And remember tomorrow that you have your doctor’s appointment for your leg.” He groaned and said that he didn’t need to go. “You have to so you can make me happy and check what’s wrong. You’re getting old so I suppose is hurting you even more now.” She sighed and put a hand on his, making him look at her. “I know what you’re going to say but I’ll always blame myself for not having noticed how crazy my ex was.”

They went to bed and the next day she woke up with Declan jumping on their bed. Shiloh was gone for work and she would leave their son with Adela to go with him to the doctor after work. “Mama, hungry!” He poked her side and she rolled to tickle him. “Meow!” Sekhmet jumped on the bed and she giggled when she poked the cat on the nose. “Alright, let’s get up and make some breakfast for you. I know that daddy already gave you three your food,” she said looking at the cats when she saw them in the kitchen. While Declan was drinking his milk and wating his toast, she saw an email from the University of London and opened it. She began to read it to find out that it was an offer for some classes three days a week. 

She smiled but decided to answer it later. She had lunch with her dad and then called Celeste to ask how she was doing. “Like shit!” she said, adding that her foot was hurting. “But at least I have Seth here and smome volunteers to help with the animals. Maddie is my nurse,” she laughed. “She’s very sweet. Also the mom and the baby horse are doing fine.” Derry then smiled when Adela came to pick up Declan and she went to pick up Shiloh for his appointment. “Hey,” she kissed his lips when she saw him leaving the company building. They drove to the hospital and waited a few minutes until the doctor called her husband’s name. “Well, doc. What’s the problem with Shiloh’s leg besides the obvious?”

“Well we did some X-Rays.” The doctor started to put the photos up. “Its not broken again is it?” Shiloh asked. The doctor laughed. “No, thankfully. but I’m afraid there’s a bone mass that grew around the injury as it healed. That could be what’s causing you pain. We see this a lot when people start to get older with old injuries.” Derry asked what could be done. “Well we could do a surgery to sort of cut it down. Otherwise I’m afraid you’ll just have to live with the pain.” Shiloh sighed. He thanked the doctor and said he would think about it as he handed him a brochure about the procedure. 

They got in the car and Derry told him he should do it so that it would stop hurting in the cold weather. “Yeah but it would take a long time to heal and I’d be on crutches again.” he said which didn’t sound appealing to him. He had lent his old crutches to Celeste who needed to use them for a few weeks while her foot healed. Luckily her injury was just a small fracture and hopefully she wouldnt be like Shiloh years from now and still causing her pain. Declan was asleep in his car seat when they got home so Shiloh put him in his bed. He wasn’t usually napping for very long these days. “I miss him being a baby who did nothing but sleep and eat.” Shiloh said when he come back downstairs. “Except the crying. I don’t miss that.” he added.

He went and looked out the window. “Snow is gone!” he pointed and Shiloh nodded. “Yes, it’s starting to melt, thank god.” he said. He was at the table trying to get some paper work done because he felt his office was too much of a mess right now. He had been looking for something important in there and there were boxes and papers everywhere. Declan pushed a chair next to his dad and climbed up to the table. “Me help!” Shiloh gave him some blank paper and crayons to distract him like he always did when he came to visit him at work and told him that he needed him to draw him a picture. Declan made a circle and added some lines and pointed. “Sun!” he said. “That’s very good. Have you noticed hes getting better at drawing?” he asked his wife. “Also, I heard your dad and aunts say when we were there earlier that they’re going back to Ireland for St. Patty’s day this year.” he said. “We could go with them, but last time that happened we almost didnt make it home because of the damn virus starting.”

“Why don’t you go to the hospital, love?” Derry put a hand on his shoulder. “See if maybe Adela can take care of her? Maybe even my dad. He loves Maddie like she’s his own granddaughter.” Shiloh nodded but then asked about Declan. “I’ll take him with me, better have him with someone he knows and who knows? He could find the horse.” Shiloh nodded and started to get dressed. “Mama, where dada going?” Derry explained to him and he smiled, clapping his hand. “Me help find the mama horsey,” he said and she patted his head. “We need to get you dressed warm, first. We can’t go like this or you’re going to freeze and turn into a snow man,” she poked his nose and he giggled. Shiloh went to the hospital and told her to drive carefully before he drove away. 

Derry went to the farm and looked around but she couldn’t see the horse. She looked for the extra key and walked inside the house to put more logs in the fireplace and then went back to the car to open the door for Declan. “We need to find the mom, love? Do you think you can help?” she asked him and he stared at her. “Aunt Celes with owie?” he asked and she nodded. “Yes, and that’s why she can’t come and help. She’s in the hospital. Want to go and see how the baby horse is doing?” He nodded and took her hand. They walked to the barn and noticed that some of the sheep were there along with the chickens. The baby horse was in the corner lying down and with a blanket covering him. “Poor thing,” she sighed. “Must be missing his mom.We need o find her, Declan.”

The little boy reached and the horse sniffed his hand before letting him pet him. “Come on, let’s go and look for her,” she said. Declan began to walk around calling for the horse’s name, always holding Derry’s hand and pulling at her to walk in a different directon.”Mama!” He yelled when they saw the horse behind one of the trees. “There she is! Stay there, alright?” She went back to the farm and look for some food to atract her. “Come here, there’s no need to be scared and your baby needs you,” she said, offering her a carrot. The horse moved slowly until she came to her and took the carrot. Derry took the reins and led her back to the barn. “Me do it!” She gave the reins to Declan who brought her in to the baby horse. “Good job, love!”

Shiloh had gone to the hospital to get Maddie since Seth wasn’t sure how long it was going to take Celeste to get in. She was in the waiting room with them with a bag of ice on her foot. Shiloh asked who was going to take care of the farm if she was hurt. “Seth’s going to take some time off to look after Maddie and we can get the workers to take care of the animals. Seth can help with that.” Shiloh snorted and said that his brother was too useless which made Seth smack his arm. Seth told Maddie that she had to go with Uncle Shiloh for a little bit. She hugged Celeste before she left. “Mama hurt.” she said. Celeste nodded and kissed her cheek. “Don’t worry, sweetie. It will get better.” Shiloh took her hand and took her out to the car putting her in Declan’s seat. 

They drove to the house while Derry and Declan were out at the farm looking for the mother horse. “Well Mads, what do you want to do?” he asked the little girl. She pointed out the window at the house across the street. Perhaps because she remembered that she use to live there. “Want to go visit Declan’s Papa?” she nodded and Shiloh put her coat on her to take her. “Dec Papa.” She said when she saw Richard who laughed and hugged the girl. “You can call me Papa too.” he said and welcomed them inside. Shiloh explained what was going on. Richard said it had been quiet because the aunts had gone to the bar to help Conall who had just gotten back from his trip. They stayed for a while and waited until Derry and Declan came through the door. “Papa!” he said running to hug the man. “Me find horsey’s mama.” he said. “That;s very good of you.” Richard said. “You did a very good thing.” he offered the kids some cookies and made tea. 

Derry asked if they were keeping warm enough and he nodded saying the wood stove made it nice and warm. “And we don’t have to worry about power outages.” he added. When the aunts came back they offered to cook dinner for everyone. “That would be nice. But Maddie’s a vegetarian.” Shiloh reminded Cece who rolled her eyes. They made a stew but without meat this time and everyone seemed to enjoy it. Declan whined when he saw Maddie bring a toy to Richard. “My Papa.” he said.“He’s getting tired and cranky. Maybe we should take them home and see if Maddie will be staying the night with us.” They thanked Richard and Derry’s aunts for dinner and walked back to theri house. They tried calling Seth and he said that they were heading back home now. He showed up later when they had put on a movie for the babies and Maddie ran to her dad’s arms. He sighed and said that Celeste had a cast and wouldn’t be able to walk without crutches for at least a month. Declan went to Seth as well. “Me find horsey.” he said. Seth touched his head. “Thank you for doing that” he said and gave a high five. “Let us know if you need help with the farm or Maddie” Shiloh said,.

“Yeah, she’s still alive,” Derry said. “Sometimes they go out and all that but that’s it.” Adela said it was never too late to find love. “Maybe he canbe a suggar daddy to a teenage girl.” She snorted when Shiloh told her mom to keep her mouth shut. “Grumpy man, my Anubis wasn’t like that. Why do you always have a shitty attitude?”she glared at him and her husband was going to answer her when Derry got between the two of them, asking if she wanted to stay and have breakfast. “Kind of you, love, but Roberto is waiting for me, don’t worry.” Declan kissed her cheek and waved at her as she left. “Outside!” he then yelled when he saw Bastet and the rest of the cats run into the yard. “Declan, put a jacket on or something,” she said to him. 

Shiloh sighed and took his jacket to follow him. “Meow!” Elliot looked at her from the floor and she smiled, picking him up. “How is my handsome boy?” she kissed his head and he began to purr. “So sweet,” she giggled. “Doesn’t matter what your grumpy daddy says, yes?” He touched her nose with his paw and she giggled. She put him on the floor and he ran to jump on his cat tree. “Don’t you think we need to get you a need one?” she asked. “This one is too old and all scratched already.” Roberto had given them this cat tree and maybe it was time to change it. “Mama, come see!” Declan yelled from the yard. “I’m coming,” Derry put on a sweater and went outside to see that it was snowing. “Snow, mama,” he ran to her and hugged her legs. 

“I see,” she touched his hair. “Maybe we’ll be able to make a snow man, yes?” He nodded and ran back to Shiloh. “Come on, we need to eat breakfast. What do you want?” she asked him. “Mork!” He yelled and she nodded, going back inside to get him some warm milk. Shiloh came back and helped her set the table. Declan ran following him and took a seat at the table. “Bas is playing,” he said and she smiled. “With Sekhmet?” Declan nodded and began to eat the toast that Shiloh put in fromt of him. “Does the weather app say how long is the storm going to last?” she asked him and he answered that probably the rest of the day. “Hopefully Celeste and the animals will be okay,” she said and Sihloh rolled his eyes, saying that she didn’t need to worry about all those stinky animals. “Well, your son likes those animals.”

Shiloh said that if they were going to cook dinner they should do it now before they lost power. He hoped they wouldn’t but on his phone it said other parts of London had. It was shortly after dinner when Declan was sitting on the floor with Bastet watching toons that the power did flicker and go off. “What happen?” Declan asked. Shiloh explained the power was out and used his phone to fine the flash light and light some candles. Luckily they had the fireplace going. “Dada make toons come back!” Declan whined. “No can do, sir. When there’s no power there’s nothing we can do except wait.” He explained which made his son scowl and sit down with his arms crossed. Derry invited him on the couch to read his new books and a few others until he started to yawn. When they took him upstairs they made sure he had extra blankets. 

They went to bed themselves shortly after and Shiloh checked his phone again to see if there was an update. Derry told him to save the battery. He sent a text to Johans to let him know what was going on and then shut it off. They had been without power for two hours. When Shiloh fell asleep, Declan came into their bed, because he was cold. Shortly after the lights came on. “Power on!” Declan sat up. “Me watch toons now.” Shiloh told him to lay back down and go to sleep. There would be no toons til morning. When they woke up several hours later, Shiloh looked outside and saw a few feet of snow. He sighed. “This is bullshit. It’s supposed to be nearly spring.” he said. “I’ll have to shovel our driveway and your dad’s. We should check on them as well.” Derry called her dad and asked if he had been alright without power. 

He said it was fine and her and the aunts had used their woodstove to cook and heat the house. While Shiloh was shoveling there as a phone call from Seth. He answered and went inside the house. His twin sounded worried and said that Celeste had gotten hurt that morning. “She went to check on the animals last night. One of the horses was spooked by the wind and it stepped on her foot and broke it. Then it ran off and now it’s missing. You haven’t seen it, have you? It’s the mother who just had a baby.” Shiloh said no and asked where he was. “At the hospital. Maddie is here also but if it takes much longer I may need someone to come get her.” He explained. Shiloh gave a sigh and told everything to Derry after he got off the phone. She looked at him and said that they were going to have to help find the horse because it was cold out there and the baby needed her.

“What do you think I’ve been teaching him?” Derry said with a smirk, taking some of the leftovers and placing them inside the fridge since the cats were sniffing around. “He knows how to count to five, colors, the moon and the sun. Of course he needs to know more things and that’s why we need to look for the perfect school for him,” she looked at Declan who was showing Bastet his new toys and other stuff. “Mama! Uncle Con gif!” he said and she nodded. “I almost forgot about them since he’s in Switzerland.” She picked up a bag from Shiloh’s office and gave it to him. “Open it, love.” He did and took out two books. “Moon!” He said opening one. “Star!” It was a children’s book about the moon, planets and stars. “That’s nice. I’ll read it to you tonight when you go to bed.”

Declan played on the floor until his eyes started to close. Shiloh picked him up and carried him upstairs to change him his clothes. “Dada,” he whimpered and rolled on his tummy. Shiloh kissed his head and picked up Bastet to put her on the bed so she could curl up next to her boy. He walked downstairs and stopped to rub his leg. Derry asked him if he was alright and he said he was fine but she crossed her arms over her chest. “I think you need to go to the doctor. You have been complaining more than the usual. I know that the cold weather makes it hurt but still, just in case, don’t you think?” He nodded and she booked an appointment online for a few days so he could have his leg checked.

They went to bed and she woke up next day without her husband but with Elliot sleeping next to her. “My baby,” she smiled and kissed his forehead, making him purr. She got up and out on her robe to go downstairs and see Shiloh eating breakfast with Declan. “Mama, you sleep,” he said, offering her some of his juice. “I know I was asleep. I was tired because of your party.” Declan stood up from the chair and took a seat on the couch with the remote to turn on the TV. “Look at him. Only four years old and he already knows how to watch telly by his own,” she said with a smile, getting herself a cup of tea.

“Want toons!” Declan yelled pushing buttons and then whining and throwing the remote on the couch. Shiloh told him to stop that and then showed him which button to press to bring up Netflix. From there he easily found the show he wanted to watch. “Wiggles.” Declan said and Shiloh snorted. “This show is crap. Why does he always have to watch it?” he asked and Derry said that she though one of the actors was quite handsome. “Is that what you do all day while I’m at work? Watch a baby show to lust over some australian man?” Shiloh poked her side. After a while they had dinner and went to bed. Shiloh had to work the next day and for the rest of the week. The days went by and soon Valentine’s Day was coming up.

Derry asked if he wanted to do anything special and he sighed saying it was on Tuesday and he hated going out. “Maybe just have a night free from monkey.” He knew a lot of people were planning to celebrate on the weekend including his mother and Roberto who she had told them all about buying some new toys for her “pleasure chest”. She said she was going to review them on her podcast. When it was finally Tuesday Shiloh was able to convince Adela to take Declan for the night. “He needs to spend more time with his grandmother because you won’t be with us much longer.” he said when he called her. “Shiloh that’s an awful thing to say. Just because you want to shag your wife in peace.” Adela scolded. She did come to take the baby and he ran to the door. “Nana!” he cried. He already had a his bag packed and was excited. His parents kissed his cheeks. “Be good and listen to Nan and Berto.” Shiloh warned. “Don’t you dare go near the pool by yourself” Adela rolled her eyes and said it had been fenced off since the grandkids were born.

That night, Shiloh made a special dinner. he bought his wife some chocolate and flowers. She told him she didnt need them. “If I didnt get them you would have complained.” he told her. She spoke to Conall on the phone who said they were coming back the following weekend and had just wanted to spend Valentines Day there win Sweden before they left. After dinner they went in the hot tub. They didn’t make love but they kissed and touched each other until they could take no more. Then they went inside and finished what they started in the bedroom. They slept in until almost noon the next day and woke up only when Adela called and said they were heading over after lunch. Shiloh got up and showered. He cheked the weather and it was calling for a snow storm warning, which was odd as things had started to warm up. “We’d better get some candles and blankets in case we lose power.” Shiloh suggested. When went downstairs to get some stuff and when he came back Delcan was coming home. Derry asked how he was She said that he had a good time and had been spoiled as usual. “Bye Nana! Bye Papa Berto!” Declan said. “Papa Berto?” Shiloh asked and Adela said that had taken to calling Roberto that. “I hope it doesn’t bother you. I know he’s not your father, but Roberto does love him as if he’s his grandson.” Adela pointed out. “By the way, dear what every happened to your fathers lady friend, Dotty or Dorothy or whatever?” Adela asked Derry. “Is she still alive?”

“Me baby!” Declan said from the floor, playing with his legos. “I know,” Derry said. “It’s just…he was so small, remember? When we brought him to our old house for the first time. Elliot was not very happy about it,” she laughed, looking at the black cat that was eating breakfast with the others. “Bastet loved him from the first time and slep with him since.” Shiloh comented the night were the storm made that tree fall on his room. “Don’t remind me,” she sighed. “I decided to change his bed to the other side and if I hadn’t done that, he would have been hurt or worse!” She kissed his cheek and told him to eat his breakfast. He was going to havea bath after and then the party. “No baff!” He said, running away from Shiloh. 

When they got him dressed, they crossed the street since they had to pick up Richard and his great aunts. “Papa!” He ran to him and higged his legs. “Happy birthday, darling,” his aunts said to him to then give him a few bags with his gifts. “Ready?” Derry asked them and they nodded to then get in the car and drive to where the party was going to be held to see that Adela and Roberto were already there along with Maddie and her parents. “No Mad,” he said looking at her but Shiloh took his hand and reminded him to be nice to his cousin or he wasn’t going to get any more gifts. “We can go and have a few snacks if you want to?” Derry offered and he nodded, taking his hand and guiding him to a table. 

He took a small chocolate donout and offered another to her. “Thanks, baby,” she kissed his cheek and then let him go when he saw Will arriving with Johans and Miles. “Thanks,” she smiled at Shiloh when he offered her a small glass with juice. “No beer?” she asked and he shook his head saying that with so many kids one of them could get it confused and get drunk. “I’m sure my brother would have loved to see that,” she snorted. “Oh, we forgot to give him my brother’s gifts,” she sighed. “Well, we’ll do it once we go back home.” She took a seat at a table and smiled when Celeste took a seat next to her. “Is there any veggie stuff?” she asked and Derry nodded. “Yes, we ordered a few veggie stuff just for you and Maddie.”

Declan went to Celeste “Where Dada Seff?” he asked. She touched his head. “I’m sorry buddy. Dada Seth is very busy with work. I’ll make sure he comes to play with you tomorrow.” She explained to Derry and Shiloh that Seth was working on an important case. “A bakery is suing over their building catching fire due to some idiots outside messing around. Remember when that happened to your bar?” she asked and Derry gave a sigh telling her not to remind her of that. That had been one of the scariest moments of Shiloh’s life when he saw the news and thought that Derry was inside. Not to mention Conall could have died. “Rose said she couldn’t make it either because baby Sofie has a doctor’s appointment but her and her mum sent a gift.” Shiloh told his wife. 

Soon Ben and Emma and their parents showed up along with Shiloh’s cousin and her kids, Zoe and Sunny. Zoe was two now and Sunny was a year older than Declan. “They grow so fast,” Shiloh’s cousin said and he nodded watching his son playing on the playground with Will and Sunny. Maddie was playing with the other kids. Adela rolled her eyes when Shiloh’s aunts showed up with the cake and muttered about witches under her breath. “Get use to it mum. They’re Declan’s family too.” Shiloh said. When it was time, Declan blew the candles out and clapped. One of his great-aunts pinched his cheek. “Our little prince is getting so big. How old are you now?”

Declan held up two fingers. “Fee!” he said. Shiloh laughed and corrected him. Adela asked about the hot tub and when they would be invited to use it. “Although I bet you and your wife have fornicated in it already.” she said and Shiloh sighed. When the kids started to tire out, they packed up all of Declans gifts and gave the kids their party bags as a thank you for coming. Shiloh put Declan in his car seat and he fought to keep his eyes open. When they got home he tried to take him upstairs to nap. “No nap!” he said and ran back down the stairs to play with his new toys. Shiloh sighed. “He’s stubborn like you.” he told Derry. “You know before we know it he’ll be in preschool. We need to start teaching him stuff. Like counting, maybe the alphabet and colors.” he suggested.

“Sure, I’ll join you,” she said. “And don¿t be a grumpy jerk,” she added. “Your mom, Celeste and your aunts are helping me with Declan’s party so there’s no need for you to freak out,” she snorted and he glared at her. “Better make Declan help you set the table,” she said. “Me help!” He stood up from the couch and ran to the kitchen. Derry was planning Declan’s party because she knew it stressed her husband too much but with the help of their relatives she knew it was going to be alright. Celeste suggested the farm but she didn’t want the kids to stress the animals all the day so Adela called another place and booked it. Shiloh’s aunts were going to be in charge of the food and the cake. Conall gave her his present before they left for Switzerland since they were going to miss it and she had it hidden inside her closet. 

“Mama!” Declan ran to her legs and she kissed his head making him laugh. “Go and sit, baby. I’ll serve you for food,” she said and he nodded. Shiloh helped him sit and she began to serve the food. She had made pasta and her husband comented it was getting better. “What do you mean it’s getting better,” she looked at him. “My pasta is really good!” she poked his nose. “Meow!” Bastet stood up on her back legs to touch Declan’s arm. “No, Bas!” He said to her. “No food for you.” Elliot was in his cat tree and Sekhmet was sleeping on the couch wrapped in a blanket. “Pasta is not for them, right?” she said to Declan and the little boy nodded. “They already got their food so no more until tomorrow morning.”

They ate fruit as a dessert and Declan went back to the living room to sit on the floor in front of the fire and color for a few minutes before he started to drop his head to the floor. “You’re sleepy, love,” Derry picked him up in her arms and he opened his eyes. “No…” He yawned and she smiled. “Let’s get you to bed, yes?” Shiloh said that he was going to prepare the hot tub and she nodded. “You can try the hot tub tomorrow, love,” she said to her son while changing his clothes to put him in his pijamas. Bastet jumped on the bed and she scratched ger under her chin before turning off the light and leaving the door half open just in case she wanted to leave the room for a drink. Derry walked down the stairs to see if her husband was in the hot tub and smirked when she saw him he was already inside. “Are you naked?” she asked.

“No, but only because I don’t trust you not to lock me outside.” he said. There was still some snow on the ground after all but not much and they said it would be gone by mid February. Derry came in with two glasses of wine. He took his. “This feels nice on my back. I sit all day in a bloody desk.” she told him he was just getting old and he splashed her a bit and kissed his wife deeply. He undid the top of her bathing suit and she gave a squeal saying the neighbors might see. “You should be more worried they’re going to hear you.” he said and kissed her neck and breasts before he slipped out of his shorts. They made love and he had to cover her mouth a few times. “Your dad and your aunts will hear us from across the street” he warned giving a gasp and moaned when he finally finished. The y out out afterwards and both dried off before they got ready for bed. “Its a good thing you can’t get pregnant again we would probably have too many kids.” he said when he laid down. Derry asked if he ever wanted more babies and he shook his head. “Our monkey is a big enough job as it is.” he said.

Sometimes he did think it would have been better for Declan if he had a sibling but he had Maddie and he wasn’t very nice to her most of the time. A few days passed and they got ready for Declan’s party trying to keep it hidden from his as curious as he was. This was a big deal because being born before covid, Declan had never really had a birthday party before. Not one that he could remember anyways. When he went to bed the night before Shiloh helped his wife decorate the house with balloons and got his presents ready. They would have a small celebration just the three of them when he woke up that morning then everyone would be meeting for the party.  Shiloh thought he would get up before their son but they heard him coming across the hall and opened the door before climbing into their bed. “Brefesst!” he said. Shiloh smiled at him. “Do you know what day it is today monkey?” he stared at him confused. “It’s your birthday. You’re four today. Our big boy.” He kissed his head. 

“Lets go open your presents and have breakfast and then we’ll have your party.” he said taking him downstairs. “Party for me?” he asked. “Look!” he pointed to the balloons and went to the table while Shiloh made him his favorite chocolate chip pancakes. They sang happy birthday to him and brought in his presents. They had got him new clothes and some new lego as well as a bike with training wheels. “I know you wanted a horsey, but this is better. You can ride it any time you’d like like a big boy. Someday daddy will teach you to ride without the training wheels.” he said. “Yah! my bike.” Declan said and sat on it. Shiloh showed him how to push the peddles while the cats ran and hid. He saw Derry in the kitchen and noticed her getting emotional. He went over to her. “What is it, love?” he asked looking at Declan. “He’s not a baby anymore, but he’ll always be our baby.” he said.  “Even when he’s 45″

“Hey, nothing wrong, but Celeste send me a video of the baby horse. It’s finaly here and Declan wants nothing more than to go to the farm,” she said. “Me go to see horsy!” Declan yelled, running to the couch to pick up his jacket and try to put it on. “So we’re on our way there and we’ll probably have lunch with Celeste and Maddie as well. Dad will give lunch to the cats but I just wanted to let you know in case you arrive find and find no one,” she said. Shiloh said to be careful when driving because there was ice on the road. “I will,” she smiled and then ended the call. “Mama!” Declan whined and she snorted when she saw him with the jacket all twisted in his arm. “Let me help, monkey,” she giggled and then helped him with his hat and scarf. “Ready?” she asked him and he nodded but then pointed at the cats who were sleeping on the couch.

“Papa will come to check on them, don’t worry,” she kissed his cheek, takes her bag and walks him to the car. She drives to the farm and smiles when she see Celeste already waiting for them. “Boobies!” Declan yells when Derry helps him to get out of the cat. “Declan, don’t say that,” she sighs and smiled when he runs to her legs. “Up!” He asked and Celeste sighs before picking him up. “You’re getting too heavy, just like Maddie,” she calls for the little girl and she comes out of the house. “Hi!” She rans to Derry. “Hey, Mads. Look how pretty your jacket is. It has butterfly wings on the back, isn’t that nice, Declan?” The boy just glares at her before pointing to the cows.

“When will the people start building here?” she asked and Celeste said that next month. “They are going to pay us monthly and i’s a lot of money, so its good. Maddie will start pre-school.” Derry asked where but Celeste wasn’t too sure. “She did great in the summer camp but she will need more interaction with other people besides Declan and the animals.” Derry said the same and that she was asking Rose for advice since she was a kindergarten teacher. “I want Declan to learn the basics but also other stuff like painting, baking, plant seeds and veggies. Numbers are cool but there’s more stuff to do in school.” Declan asked to be put down and took Celeste’s hand. “Where baby horse?” Celeste giggled and began to walk down the path to the barn.

“Me see!” Declan ran to catch up to Celeste. Once in the barn she lifted him up to the fence so he could see and told him he needed to be quiet so he wouldn’t scare the baby or its mother. “Mama look!” he yelled and Derry reminded him again to be quiet. He pointed, “My baby hosey.” he said and Celeste put him down. “No mine.” Maddie said and Declan glared and pushed her. Derry told him to stop and grabbed him by his arm. They went back inside for lunch. “I made fafel, because I know Declan loves it,” Celeste said as she served them. “I wish my useless husband knew how to cook so I could try Egyptian food, But he would probably put meat in all of it.” she rolled her eyes.

As they were eating lunch she asked Derry about Declan’s birthday which was coming up and Derry said they were going to do something at the house and that Maddie would surely be invited. “No.” Declan said. Derry reminded him that Maddie always invited him to her birthday parties and that whether he liked it or not they were cousins. They were also going to invite Will and Ben and Emma and all of their relatives. When it was time to go home, Shiloh arrived home shortly after they did and was greeted by both Sekhmet and Declan running to him excitedly. “Daddy! Me have baby horsey.” he said. Shiloh sighed and shook his head. “You’re too little to have a horse. You could get stepped on. And Mum and Dad would be the ones looking after it.” When he said this Declan scowled and tried to kick him. “You’ll get nothing behaving like that.” Shiloh said as Declan went behind the couch to sulk.

After a moment Shiloh brought him out and sat him down. “Did you know that taking care of horseys is a lot of work? You would have to get up early every day to feed and brush it. You wouldn’t have much time to play or watch toons. Plus Bas would get jealous. You don’t want that do you?” Declan looked at the black and white cat and shook his head. “Maybe some day when you’re bigger.” he said touching his head before he put on toons for him and went to the kitchen to help Derry make dinner. “We’re not getting him a horse. Don’t even think of it.” he told her. “He’s already so spoiled and he cant have everything he wants.” Derry reminded him that his birthday was coming and he let out a sigh. He wasnt looking forward to a house full of kids. “I’ll have to call and make sure everyone is coming. And we’ll have to go shopping and get a cake and balloons and gift bags and stuff. Not to mention presents for him.” he said. “After dinner, I’m going in the hot tub whether you join me or not.” he added.

“Okay,” she took the phone from him. “Hey, bro. What’s up?” she asked. Declan ran to her legs and reached for her phone but she shook her head. He frowned and slapped her legs, making her snort, before going to Shiloh and climb on his lap, asking for his hot chocolate. “Yeah, I can do it. No problem. I can ask dad or Adela to stay with Declan, just make sure to bring me some chocolate, that´s all I ask,” she smiled. “Call me when you get there, same with dad. You know he gets worried.” She said goodbye to him and ended the call. “He’s leaving for two weeks with Claire to Switzerland and wants me to take care of the bar during the afternoon. I can do it but someone will need to take care of this monkey until dinner.”

Shiloh said that he would have been able to stay with him if the daycare at work had been working. “I know, that’s why I will need Papa and Nana’s help,” she smiled at Declan. “I could very well take him after lunch to you but I don’t want to stress you. Adela and my dad could take turns so they won’t get tired,” Shiloh nodded and decided to call Adela. “Your mouth and face are all covered in chocolate,” she told her son, going for a napkin so he could clean his face. “Or maybe I could take you to the bar with me,” she said and Shiloh glared at her from the kitchen. “You could try the beer. Would you like that, love?” Declan nodded at her and her husband rolled her eyes. “Maybe not until you’re older or you daddy will kill me,” she poked his nose, making him smile. 

“Meow!” Bastet jumped on the couch next to them and touched Declan’s face with her paw. “See? She thinks you’re dirty too,” she giggled. “My Bas!” He hugged the cat and kissed her head to the point to the window. “Mama, look! Snow!” He jumped from the couch and ran to the back door. “Declan, wait! You need to put on your jacket!” She groaned and took the jacket from the couch, following him. “Snow!” He ran to the yard and began to jump and run around while touching the snow. Shiloh followed and said that Adela had no problem taking care of Declan. “Good,” she nodded, kissing his cheek and taking her phone to make a video of their son. “Hopefully we won’t have that much snow. It’s too damn cold already.”

After a while Declan wanted to come inside the house again. “Mork!” he yelled and Shiloh sighed. “Alright, but only a little bit. We’re going to have dinner soon.”  He gave him a “big boy cup” as they were trying to teach him to drink without a sippy cup but he just tipped it back to far and most of the milk ran down his face. Shiloh chuckled and wiped his face. “I think someone is going to need a bath tonight.” he said. “No baff!” he said and ran to the living room. “Speaking of, the hot tub should be ready tomorrow. You and I should be the first ones to try it out.” he pinched her bottom and smirked when she swatted his hand away. “It will be nice. We may not use it as much in the summer months, except when it cools down at night.” he said. 

Derry finished making dinner and after they ate Shiloh turned on the water in the tub. “No, no, no!” Declan ran and tried to hide behind the couch. Shiloh picked him up by his feet and put him over his shoulder making him squeal and laugh. He took him to the bathroom and got him ready and put him in the tub. Bastet came in to investigate but ran away as soon as the baby started splashing and yelling. Shiloh sighed and washed his hair. “You might need a haircut soon. People will think you’re a little girl.” he said. “Me baby.” he replied and yawned. “I think someone wore himself out playing so much outside today. It’s nearly bed time.” he said as he got him out of the tub and dried him with a towel. “No!” the boy whined. Shiloh put on his diaper and pajamas and put him on the couch. He went in the kitchen to make some tea and when he came back Declan was fast asleep with his mouth open and his head on Bastet. 

Derry laughed and took a picture before taking him to his bed. Shiloh drank some of his aunts chamomile tea to help him sleep. Ever since his incident with the sleeping pills a few years ago they did not keep them in the house. Any pills that were dangerous were locked up where Declan couldn’t get them. However sometimes when he had to go to work he needed something to help him sleep. They went to bed after watching a movie. The next day he got up early and for once managed to get out the door without Declan waking up. When he looked in his room he saw him fast asleep next to Bastet. He smiled and left for work.
