Aphrodi grimaced, cursing the loss of this opportunity to get to the bottom of this school’s mystery. It was so strange, the invitation that seemed to come out of nowhere, and all his friends encouraging him to come here. And yet, they hadn’t done any formal training. It was almost as if the faculty wanted them to piece things out little by little…How peculiar, he thought.

"That’s unfortunate," he stated, his eyebrows scrunching up in a thinking gesture. "I haven’t heard about that rumor, though. Is it popular among the students?" he questioned. Noticing the other boy’s attempts to free his collar, he let go. He hoped the brunet knew he hadn’t intentionally been holding on."Sorry," he added, lightly touching the crinkled fabric. 

The mention of an investigation made Afuro’s eyes light up. If there was anything he liked besides soccer, it was detective work. He eagerly took a step forward.

"Hey, that’s a great idea!" he remarked enthusiastically. "We’ll just have to investigate what’s going on at this school." He grinned slyly. "And that means we first have to find a way into the main building."

Shindou thought back to the time he'd heard the rumours. If he recalled, it seemed like a fair amount of students were gossiping about it. "I'd say it was fairly popular," he commented. "I seem to remember quite a lot of students mentioning it."

Shocked at the blond's sudden change in attitude, Shindou finally realised what he was getting himself into. Of course, Aphrodi wanted to investigate it. Shindou began having second thoughts. Was it a good idea for them both to search the school?

Of course, it didn't seem like any other student had the initiative, and the staff weren't keen on helping. If anything, it felt as if the school wanted them to investigate. Isn't that unusual?, thought Shindou. It's definitely not a trick...?

He resolved that he would place a little trust in Aphrodi, and investigate the mysterious school with him.

"Hopefully we can get this figured out faster with the two of us." he sighed. "Let's search for a way in."

“It’s not like I’m actually playing basketball! I’m just catching the ball, which a goalkeeper does in soccer anyway.” He carried on doing it while speaking to Shindou, focusing on the ball. “Plus, this ball is heavier so it’s actually strengthening my hands and arms.”

"If you're so set on improving, then go and make some friends and have them practice with you." Shindou frowned. Putting his school supplies neatly to one side, he stood up and folded his arms, frowning down at Ibuki.

"It's fair enough that you can catch a ball when you're sitting there, but how do you expect to succeed in a match?"

“Heh, I would say same to you but there’s no need.” Ibuki sat on his bed and began to dig through his bag again. Suddenly, he took out a basketball then laid down with it. Throwing the ball up before catching it in his hands again. If he had to get used to Shindou being his room mate then he might as well start now.

Shindou looked up to see Ibuki messing around with a basketball he'd somehow pulled out of his bag.

...Are you serious? He really doesn't care, does he.

"You can put that away." he sighed, returning his attention to his school materials. "At least show some interest. Why would you bother applying to a soccer school if you're going to focus your attention on basketball?"

“Who said I was being a child?!” Shindou was really starting to piss Ibuki off but he just held it in. It would be bad to start a fight, especially since he just joined the school not too long ago. He tightly clenched his fists. “I’m not going anywhere!” His voice spoke loud and clear. As much as he would like to, doing that wouldn’t prove anything to Shindou. Except that he’s running away from him… which he wasn’t. The only thing he could do was stay here.

"Then it looks like both of us are staying." Shindou quietly began sorting out some of his school materials. As hard as Ibuki seemed to be trying to hide his anger, it wasn't working particularly well for him; Shindou could tell by the tone of his voice and how tightly his fists were clenched that he was furious.

Still, if he really wanted to stay, then Shindou wasn't about to stop him.

"I hope you're not a messy roommate, then." he sighed sarcastically.

Ibuki walked in the room then went over to his bed. His bag sat on it as he opened it and took out a piece of paper. He silently stared at it. “Tch!” Scrunching it up, he threw into his bag like he was playing basketball. “I told the principal to put me with captain or Tsurugi… so why am I with captain and you as well?!”

Shindou shut the door behind him and made his way to his own bed.

This was definitely not how he'd imagined his rooming arrangement. Still, he would have to make do with it. It's not as if he would be spending all day in the room, anyway. He'd most likely only have to be here in the evenings.

"If you don't like it, then leave." he said openly. "I'll just deal with it, but if you're too busy being a child to, you can just ask to swap."

"You don’t need to tell me! Like I’d want to know!" Ibuki stormed past Shindou then stopped at the door. He suddenly froze as he saw Shindou still walking towards him. Wait… didn’t he say he was going to his room… so why is he heading here… don’t tell me… He gritted his teeth then forced a smirk, looking down at the boy. Of course Ibuki didn’t want to be sharing rooms with Shindou so he just tried to look over it. Acting like it wasn’t true. "Oi! This is my room Shindou." Grabbing the handle, he turned it and opened the door. Ibuki looked back; squinted his eyes at Shindou. "You need to stop getting at me and worry about yourself."

"As if I'm getting at you. You need to learn to leave me alone!" Shindou argued back. He'd not even been at the school so long, so to have this was ridiculous.

"This is my room anyway, so." Shindou said, stepping inside the room and pulling his neatly folded rooming assignment slip from his pocket as he did so. He gestured to the number on the slip, which matched the number on the door to the room. "I'd appreciate it if you'd--"

He trailed off as he realised.

He's supposed to share a room with Ibuki.

"...We're rooming together, aren't we." he sighed.

Aphrodi was prepared to drop the subject, thinking they were just two different people, but the brunet boy brought up another interesting point. There was only one Raimon. That’s true, he thought. It would be strange for those two people to be at the same school…Unless one worked there and the other was a student. OR….Or maybe Endou was actually Mamoru Jr.! That had to be it. Endou’s dad probably worked at the school and named his son after himself. But wait…that would make his dad 10 when he had Endou…

Afuro shook his head, tired from thinking about this too deeply. Something else mentioned had caught his ears, though. Rumours. Aphrodi wondered what ridiculous storied had to do with this and why this boy was bringing one up in the first place. But he couldn’t believe what he heard.

"2029??" he blurted out, shocked. "No way! That’s impossible! That’s over ten years forward in the fu-" he trailed off, the gears clicking in his head. Over ten years later. The Endou this boy knew was 24. But no. It wasn’t possible….Was it?

Forgetting about meeting Shindou’s team, Aphrodi grabbed the other boy by his collar desperately. “Take me to who told you this rumour,” he demanded. “I’m getting to the bottom of this.”

Shocked after having his collar gripped so suddenly, Shindou grabbed hold of the blond's arm and scowled at him. 

"Hold on, it was just something I heard in passing!" he explained. He wished he could have identified the student that started the rumour, since he would have quite liked to know where the theory came from himself. Still, it was a possibility, and that was that. As much as Shindou would have hated to get involved with time again, it seemed like the most likely possibility.

"I really wish I could help you with that, but I couldn't put a name to the students if I tried." he sighed, moving Aphrodi's arm firmly (although not violently) in an attempt to make the boy loosen his grasp on his collar.

"It's not every day you hear rumours like this, so I'd quite like to know for myself what's going on in this school." Shindou frowned. "I know I'm going to look into it, since there has to be some kind of explanation for this."

That voice… it couldn’t be… Ibuki turned away from a door to see a gray haired boy charging right at him. A familiar one at that. Short with marron eyes and a glare Ibuki couldn’t forget. His expression changed to a look of anger. Shindou! He clenched his fists tightly as the boy continued to storm towards him furiously. Why did he have to be here? It would have been better without him. Shindou stood in front of him, while Ibuki stared down at him. “I should be asking you the same question!”

"Why should you need to ask?" Shindou frowned, glaring straight into Ibuki's eyes. "I like soccer, so of course I would be here."

He crossed his arms. Did Ibuki really deserve a place at this school? A school for the best soccer players. Can someone like Ibuki, who barely respected soccer as a team sport, learn anything here? Shindou supposed he'd figure that out with time.

"In any case, I'm going to my room." he said bluntly, and turned to make his way towards the door.

It still hadn't been long since he'd arrived, and the layout of the school was a little difficult to remember, so Shindou took it upon himself to look around the rooms and learn which hall led to where. He was on his way back to the room when he noticed a familiar figure. He was tall- far taller than Shindou- with a mess of white hair falling over a black headband.

Ibuki.

Why would he be here, of all people? Ibuki, at a school for soccer players? It didn't make sense to him.

"Ibuki! What are you doing here." Shindou practically stormed down the corridor towards the other boy as he demanded an explanation.

Matsukaze Tenma? The name didn’t ring a bell in the least. And seeing how the brown-haired boy had said that one was his junior, Afuro guessed he was at least a second-year - the same as Endou. There was no way they could have been in the same school, same year, played soccer, and never have known each other. It was almost as if… as if they knew two different Endous…

The other boy’s calmness was affecting Aphrodi’s own anger. If he could be mature about this, Afuro could too. He took a few deep breaths and closed his eyes for a moment.

When he opened them, his voice was a lot steadier and no longer filled with anger, although it did sound nervous, which was understandable.

"So you’re saying that this Coach Endou is actually Endou Mamoru? And that he’s twenty-four years old? Then I think we’re talking about two different people with the same name." He laughed awkwardly. "I mean, it’s not like you know someone from the future, right?"

Aphrodi was surprised at the other boy’s offer to show him his team. He had expected him to deny it completely, thus revealing that he was lying. Maybe there was more to this than he originally thought…And what about the coaches and staff? He hadn’t seen any of them since he had arrived, but neither, it seemed, had any of the other students. 

What was even more surprising was that some of them were actually at the school. Maybe they were some of the kids he had met earlier.

"Alright," he agreed. "Let’s go see them."

Yes, that had to be it. The two of them just had to know two different Endous with the same name, didn't they? …But how was that possible, if both Endous were at Raimon? Even if two people called 'Endou Mamoru' existed, it's not like there were two Raimons...

Somehow, the question about knowing someone from the future seemed a little ironic. It wasn't as if he was about to say something about that whole saga to someone he just met, though. Still, it made him consider the possibility that the school had taken in students from different time periods. It was like that rumour….

…Was it really a rumour? 

"It does seem like we know two different people," he said calmly. "Although, I'm not quite sure how that could work, since there's only one Raimon. I can't think of a clear explanation for this, unless I touch on the rumours students have been spreading." To other people, this line of thought would seem completely improbable, but to Shindou, it was definitely something important to consider.

"The rumour that the school is in the year 2029. If that were true, wouldn't we be able to explain this misunderstanding…?"

Not forgetting his offer from before, Shindou gestured in the direction of his dorm room. "I can't guarantee he'll be in the dorm right now, but my junior - Tenma, that is - is rooming with me. If you really insist, I can take you to see him."

He didn’t mean to pull Shindou so abruptly and drag the other along with him—but the sight of his favourite striker made him act on impulse without thinking twice of the consequences. 

The senior managed to follow his pace though and soon enough Tsurugi noticed them coming, looking pleased by the time they stopped in front of him. 

"The same could be said to you…!" cheekily, the brunet replied to Tsurugi’s comment. He hadn’t let go of Shindou yet though—it seemed that he had completely forgotten about their linked arms.

That was beside the point, for the trio was complete, and so soon too. Tenma thought he’d have to wait for at least a while longer to see one of his teammates again. But then Shindou approached him and then they walked upon Tsurugi—it was amazing.

Quickly analyzing his friend’s bagless state and map in hand, a question popped out of his mouth.

"Have you been to the dorms already? Shindou-san and I just arrived and we’re kind of… lost…" the brunet trailed off, a little embarrassed to say the least.

Shindou stopped with Tenma, his junior still hanging on to his arm as he talked. He was definitely glad that Tsurugi would be joining them. Perhaps the three of them would be able to team up like they had when they were in Raimon…?

As Tenma asked if Tsurugi had visited the dorms, a question popped into his own mind.

"That's right…" he began, using one hand to point to himself and to Tenma as he spoke, "We're in the same dorm room. 10.01. Which are you staying in?"

Perhaps it was too much to wish for the three of them to be able to room together, but even so, Shindou quietly hoped they would. For the trio to be able to live together at the school would be ideal; the three of them got on well, and it wouldn't be particularly awkward for them, since they'd spent a lot of time together in the past. However, even if they weren't, it would be useful to know Tsurugi's room number to see how far away from each other they would be.

The brunet’s sudden fierceness made Aphrodi back up. He was now defending himself; defending himself, and his lies. But something was strange. When Aphrodi looked into his eyes, they seemed pure and honest, almost as if he believed the falsities he was saying.

"Really? Handed it over to your junior? What’s his name? Mr. Nonexistent? And this Holy Road thing, whatever this competition is, I think you’re confusing it with the wrong sport. This is soccer. Congrats for making it two years in a row; I wonder how many people you lied to to get there."

The next thing he said hit Afuro in the heart. Never heard of Zeus? Because they didn’t win? Because they only got second place? They beat Teikoku and yet were less popular than they were. It wasn’t fair…!

"I bet Endou hasn’t even been playing soccer for ten years," he said quietly, still hurting. "He’s a fourteen year old kid; I don’t think he played when he was four."

"As for your team, I’d like to meet them. If they even exist." Aphrodi simply stared at the other boy, tension building, as they stared each other down.

"I handed it over to Tenma. Matsukaze Tenma," Shindou snapped, lowering his arms to his sides. "Of course I play soccer. Why would I be here if I didn't?"

The blond had continued with the same accusations as before, and honestly, it made him worried. He didn't exactly appreciate being called a liar, but there were more important things to question. Just what was going on? Was his team all right? Most importantly, if Coach Endou was his age….where were they? This couldn't possibly be….?

He continued talking; this time, his voice was softer and his tone less threatening, although if a person was to pay attention to his posture and the way his fists were clenched at his sides, they would notice how much of an effort he was exerting to stay calm. After all, if this was an issue involving time, there was no reason to get upset.

"The Coach Endou I know helped us out all the way through the last tournament. He's strong-willed, and possesses a true love for the sport. Even if some of the ways he thinks are out of the box and seem unusual to the rest of us, he's always meant well." he explains, "And that Coach Endou is about twenty-four."

"If you have such a strong desire to meet my team, then I'll take you to meet some of them, if I must." Shindou was practically dizzy after hearing Aphrodi imply his team didn't exist at all, but he was sure Tenma or Tsurugi wouldn't mind explaining to the blond.

"Some of them are enrolled at this school, after all."
