Dark encounters {Deathly Orchid}
Rich people and their parties. It was always the same, as if the followed a code of necessary things to prove their position. Held in big halls full of shiny tiles, hanging spider chandeliers, white covered tables covered in plates of tiny flashy food and silver towers of pastries. A live orchestra on the scaffold, the rich people dances in their flashy dresses, bathed in golden light, while maids, butlers, bodyguards and cooks exhausted themselves with work.
Being hardly the first time he had stepped into this incomprehensible world of gold and light, it wouldn’t be out of place to say he was used to this. Of course, that was far from meaning he cared or appreciated these sort of situations in the slightest, but at least he knew how to blend into the working shadows and do his work from there. Unattended and unnoticed by unwanted eyes, he remained in the darkness of corners, mixing with the waves of people that moved from one side to the other.
He was here, of course, because of work. He didn’t had neither the money nor reputation that it would require to be invited to these sort of places as a guest. And in all honesty, even if he had been invited, his asocial nature would have prevented him from going. He just wasn’t made for the aristocratic life.
Now, the person to put this work over his shoulders was certain aristocrat from Solaris who, for some reason he didn’t cared enough to ask, couldn’t assist personally to the ball. The man, slightly older than JJ himself, was quite the worrywart and more of an older brother than he was a CEO. More than that, he seemed to have a soft spot for the one this party had been held for. Kaname Kuran. He remembered the smirk and the youthful face associated to the name, dreading it enough to force a rejection on his part to any job that would be related to him. Yet, if it was Oswald’s request, things were different.
After all it was Oswald who assisted JJ in his coming to Solaris… and considering his kind heart, if JJ refused, he’d try to get in contact with someone else… or worse, would send his own personal bodyguards to protect the young Kuran, ending up by himself in that big lonely house. So, he had no option but to accept the proposal and assist to the party as Kaname’s protection.
Nevertheless, just as he had been ordered to protect the nasty bastard, he was told to do it in whichever way he preferred. And his preferred way in this case was keeping at least 10 meters of distance at every time as if to prevent the younger wolf from making any strange moves on his person. In all honesty, he wasn’t even sure if Kaname was aware of his presence, having entered with Oswald’s invitation and a permit for welding weapons rather than with the black haired.
There were some cheers and a speech. JJ put just the bare minimum of attention in the words, all of his senses focused in catching anyone that could have harmful intentions towards the young black haired. Brown eyes turning amber under the fire of the chandelier, JJ took a glance at the one he had to protect, a smile on his lips as he kindly talked with the people surrounding him. Even though he was supposed to be immersed in this world of aristocracy, unwinding like a fish on a river, there was something odd about him. As if he was a cutout of grey, he stood out from the colorful and joyful surroundings, and JJ couldn’t help but wonder how no one took notice of that but himself.
Was it because he already had a taste of the darkness that could appear in the deepest part of those wine colored orbs? Or was it his instinct as a killer? The rest of the people seemed to bite on the kind façade while keeping some distance, as if their natural instincts contradicted the logic of their minds. His heart being drawn in curiosity and enticement at the strength concealed behind smiles, JJ found himself staring for a heartbeat too long, eyes drifting away as soon as he noticed, checking once more for any dangers that could lure the surroundings. However, he failed to notice that along with his eyes, his steps had also moved closer to the black haired. Like the rest of the people that surrounded the birthday boy –because it was indeed a boy, at least from JJ’s perspective- JJ’s instincts and logic contradicted each other in front of him.
However, the reaction this originated was different from that of everyone else. Probably because of his own past, soul and mind broken and reunited as something odd; as an outlier. His logic allowed him to take notice on the dangers of the onyx haired teen, yet his heart yearned for the hidden force inside him, wanting to be hunted down by his wolf-like fangs. His steps taking him to a place Kaname could take notice off, while his mind rationalized it as a normal patrol in search for dangers.
