We're working on something new... www.shininglegions.com
Yup, no question about it, we're SO gonna continue with this card even this Christmas... http://www.shininglegions.com/product/shining-all-i-want-for-christmas-postcard
It's been hectic here at Legions HQ for quite some time now.. We've been heavily bombarded with new ideas from Mr Kvarforth - he's on a roll when it comes to new ideas at the moment and although this creativity is something that we appreciate, it s also somewhat troubling when there are ten new ideas "that must be fixed NOW" waiting in our inboxes every morning. Most of these ideas will be surfacing for the upcoming Shining European tour, and we're really excited about all of them..
Newsletters - love and hate..
Yup, it's N.H. here again. Just wanted to scribble on the subject of a newsletter as yes the shop now is gonna start sending out one.. Don't you just hate it when all those "magical one time only" offers fill your inbox? I know I do. I mean, first, it's like "OMG this is gonna be so good to know what goes on" - and then after a few months when the same "this today only very last time never again" offer hits your e-mail box for the thousandth time you kinda lose your faith. So that was kind a hindrance in my mind when I was told that this is DEFINITELY something the shop must do. But, as I think one of us already mentioned, when the one telling you is Niklas Kvarforth, you either comply or face the consequences.. So we said yes and set up a newsletter service with MailChimp for now, and one can join it here: http://www.shininglegions.com/newsletter The only plus to this is that instead of us having to come up with "new and amazing one time only hurry hurry offer ends in 30 seconds"-emails, we have the pleasure of having Kvarforth himself write this stuff, based on our insights onto the latest happenings.. We'll see how this goes. /N.H.
About the ShiningLegions models and stuff
It's my turn to post my first thing here in Tumblr.. as a short introduction, I'm the gal who makes "the" decisions of what the store eventually does, and also takes care of the stuff that is not so nice, like accounting and taxes X) One of the things that has altered between not-so-nice and nice has also been some of the Shining campaigns and the reactions they have sparked, and that's what my post today is about. When we started work with Shining, we knew that's a band that raises a lot of emotions. A LOT. From mind altering dedication to world burning hatred, it's like something that leaves no-one cold, ever. But when we started to have real live models pose for our shirts, and naturally thought it best to spread the pictures via Shining's social media.. well. I think the result was still unexpected from our "just a normal joe & jane" point of view. :) To tell the story in full: Most you readers have prolly seen the girls and the musicians who've modelled for pics on the Shining fb, wearing Shining gear. The idea started simple: we think it's cool that we get "real live photos" of the products into the store, and we like it even more that we get good looking peeps in good looking pics showing them. So we said "let's make a campaign with as many pics as possible, and let's find male musicians and professional female models who are willing to participate" When we introduced the idea, it was an instant green light from Niklas. We got a lot of help from Kvarforth in choosing the models, and he was kind to write detailed instructions to many about what the photos would need to look like. Niklas also came up with the idea of introducing two campaigns via the model pics: -"ten commandments" campaign, each with a pic and a different rule -"murder is art and violence is fashion" campaign, each with a pic and a slogan And then we made it happen. We got fantastic results, and got to work with amazing people and beautiful models. And then we started publishing them with the help of the Shining page moderators and were met with a stream of emotions we REALLY were not expecting. In reply to the given picture, some made it very clear that they hate the band, the picture, the persons and product. Others just stated respect or adorement for the models. And a bunch always remembered to call Shining a sell out commercial shit band. One could say it had sort of a drug like effect to see that bickering and fighting over a picture.. whether the pic is good or bad, whether you hate it or love it, whether you love or hate Shining and/or Kvarforth. It was like watching a battle from a distance, not being able to look away, too fascinated and curious of the outcome. After each pic got a full Shining treatment with love and hate just pouring in we were left with a "que?" on our lips and wide eyes. How can one post bring such reactions? What are the haters still doing on the pages? Do you really think were THAT good with Photoshop? (we got a lot of "this is photoshopped"-comments, that we can tell you that they surely were not. If they were, we'd need to give Nelson much more credit for his job, that would've been some amazing photoshopping) Although Kvarforth doesn't use facebook, the negative comments we told him about made us fear for our future - but instead the comments just made him snicker. I guess he knew and wanted exactly what was going to happen. Now after a month since the last post we give kudos for his weird promotion plan as the sales went up as the hate poured in. Not just Kvarforth took it well - he has since said he loved and loves the campaigns - but all the models were very pro about the campaign and the reactions as well, and we thank them for that. Especially the girls were just fabulous with their pics, we had fantastic takes from Kay Morgan, Carmin Conner, Jenny Poussin, Lora Palmer, Teresa Cerqueira, Simone Czarnach, the fantastic Anna Marine... All of the girls were fabulous with their input onto the details of the pics, and even more so with their attitude. And the guys, well. I honestly don't think they give a shit of what's being said - most of them are tough skinned musicians, they don't care what you think, they do what they do and they do it well.. ;) So... next time I guess we know better what were up against. Hate is a wonderful fuel for whichever engine, Shining certainly teaches us that!
Until next time, / N.H http://www.shininglegions.com/product/shining-moses-t-shirt
Artistic visions
Our main company, the one who runs the shop officially and pays our salaries, Kvarforth-Leviathan Industries got a nifty piece of drawing art today from Swedish artist Fredrik Sköld. The painting's based on the Tillsammans Är Vi Allt video - we think it's pretty cool and would really like to use it for something..
The artist's facebook can be found here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Art-af-Skold/413807841999853?fref=ts and here's the original video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iULz19Cc7yw&feature=share&list=UUdti8C94BHBGHXlKCuQHNWw We'll see what we come up with and what our boss thinks! /Alex http://www.shininglegions.com
Pixels, they do matter, even in Halmstad
Here's Nelson again, continuing on the rant started yesterday about the missing original files. Because yup, we work weekends too, and when one loves what they do, why not work weekends? Because this morning, I got a small ray of sunshine in my life: an e-mail that stated that "we think we found the original Halmstad cover file!" YEY! HOORAY! HUZZAH! Yes I was nearly jizzing when I heard and saw that. Then just now, I got the so called "original file". And guess how big it is? Just how BIG it is?? Anyone anyone? Guesses? Well it's frakking 15 k. Not megs. K. fif-teeeeeeen k. [insert a bit more silence] And I have Niklas asking me if I got the file and if everything is gonna move smoothly now. Hell yeah. Smooth as silk. I am not thinking of explaining to him the importance of high resolution and pixels because honestly? I don't think he'd get it. I don't think he'd give a frak. I did try in the past explaining (to others not to Kvarforth for frak's sake, I like my face mind you!) the difference of hi-res and low-res by drawing a smilie face with coco pops onto a plate with rice krispies - then taking away half the coco pops. I don't think I can do that explaining to Niklas. I am not sure really what to answer as he's the kind of person who expects things get done one way or another and he doesn't give a frak why something isn't working. Saying to him "I can't do this" would be like a stormtrooper telling Darth Vader his cape looks ugly. He tells you what to do, and you do it. One way or another, exactly as he said. No "but", no "maybe", no "what if". You do exactly what he tells you to do and be silent, and everything will be just dandy. So instead... well. I guess I just gotta find the biggest physical copy there is or start finding a doppelgänger of the girl. So.. once (and I'm not saying "if" I'm saying I'll do this) you see a Halmstad shirt in the store, remember my words and think of me fondly XD -Nelson www.shininglegions.com
Nostalgia is great until..
And here we go. My turn. Designs. Just beginning work on two "nostalgia" merch things, Shining's Halmstad (my all time favourite album) and their seventh album. This started out like a really good idea, I mean I love both albums and I think they make great merch items and I was really into the thing (and still am but I'll get to my aargh point in just a moment). You see, then we learned that there is no high resolution original photos. There probably was like several years ago but no one seems to have the original Halmstad picture and that makes stuff a bit more difficult. But we're getting there, slowly but yes I'll get this done somehow.. [insert crazy mumbling and noises of a nervous breakdown]

Welcome, welcome..
....and welcome! We are Shining Legions, and we run the webshop of the Swedish metal band Shining, the brainchild of Niklas Kvarforth. We sell and create all the items they wish to make - and sometimes we try to throw in our own ideas and get a really big NO from Kvarforth. Which is ok because he is basically our boss and we trust his vision (doesn't everyone trust their boss just the same? ;) Anyhow, we decided to put together a small Tumblr-page to ease the anxiety and misfortune working with tedious artists and weird designs sometimes causes. What we will be discussing and posting here are topics ranging from running the shop itself to posts about our ongoing projects - and we hope to hear from our readers too (if there will be any) as there can never be too much inspiration.. To start off, I, the undersigned, who run the Customer Service and picture upload section, took a picture of my humble working space. Because although I can't call it "magic" I do call it a place where things then finally happen. You can't go wrong with Pinhead watching over you and getting all your calories from cola now can you..?
We'll have our graphic guy giving a small insight into our planned nostalgia-designs later today - here's hoping the idea of this blog appeals to some of you and you wish to keep following! Until our next post, Alex shininglegions.com
