The original Lightroom preset “Lightra 400” has been updated: v250927. Compared to the previous version, it removes the typical digital blue cast more effectively and enhances both the brightness and rendering of skin tones and reds. Please download the latest version from the shared user folder. It allows JPEG and RAW files captured with digital cameras or smartphones such as the iPhone to be easily given a Portra 400 look using the free Lightroom Mobile app.

Lightra 400 / Lightri-X 400 for Lightroom Presets

I created original Lightroom presets—“Lightra 400” and “Lightri-X 400”—that let you easily give your smartphone or compact camera shots (JPEG or RAW) the look of Portra 400 or Tri-X 400, using the free Lightroom Mobile app. Of course, they also work with RAW files from cameras like FujiFilm and Nikon, not just JPEGs. I personally don’t use it, but they’re fully compatible with the desktop version of Lightroom and Photoshop Camera Raw as well.
These presets were carefully tuned to match the natural look of negative film that I scan at home, with attention to the finest details. They can also be used to preview how your shots might turn out before actually shooting on film.
Here’s how I use them: I take a photo with my iPhone, import it into Lightroom Mobile, apply the preset, and share it as-is—no further editing. I just copy the image and paste it directly into social media, without saving it to my camera roll, almost like posting a piece of text. If I want a more refined result, adjusting white balance, exposure, and contrast slightly is usually more than enough.

Following the "Everyday: People and City" exhibition held from December 4, 2024, to January 15, 2025, the "Everyday: Family" exhibition, featuring works from my ongoing project One Two Three focused on capturing family moments, has now begun. The exhibition runs until February 28. I'm thrilled to share fleeting moments of light my family showed me amidst the extraordinary, presented in extraordinary sizes. For my next photo book, I’d like to focus solely on this project.

The "Color of The Streets" solo exhibition has just started, introduced at 2024 Lianzhou Foto Festival, one of China’s largest photography festivals. The exhibition features 20 photographs in 60 x 40 cm prints. You can find the booth at the Old Granary: G12-5, and the exhibition runs until February 4, 2025. I’d be delighted if this could serve as a bridge connecting cultures. Please come visit if you're in China!

I just received the latest edition of Robert Frank’s The Americans directly from Aperture.
From 2008 to 2019, Steidl had released a “final edition,” personally overseen by Frank himself, but due to his passing, reprints halted in 2012. This time, Aperture has taken over the rights and released a faithful reprint. The Trade Edition is widely available on Amazon or elsewhere, but this “Centennial Limited Edition” celebrating Frank’s 100th birthday is limited to 1,500 copies. This edition features a significantly upgraded binding at three times the price of the Trade Edition, with the book itself in clothbound hardcover, housed in a cloth-covered slipcase, and includes a separate booklet on Frank’s films, originally appended to the final pages of the 1968/1969 editions.
Frank’s photos, once printed on paper with inks from that era, carried with them the atmosphere of those times—a sense that has evolved in this edition, making it something distinct, something with its own presence. And yet, there’s a unique value here beyond just the design. On the back cover of the booklet, Aperture has included Allen Ginsberg’s essay written after he read the first edition, which couldn’t make it into the 1969 reprint and had since been tucked away in the archives. Like Kerouac, Ginsberg wrote with a grounded, raw simplicity—so good.

2008〜2019年にシュタイデルから発売されていたフランク本人が携わった「最後のエディション」シュタイデル版が彼の死によって2012年で増刷はストップしてたけど、今回その版権をアパーチャーが受け継ぎのそのまま復刻版として発売。普及版"Trade Edition"はAmazonジャパンでも普通に今後も買えるけど、今回届いた「フランク生誕100周年記念版」は1500部の限定版。普及版と製本が違っていてこちらは価格3倍の豪華さ。布貼りのハードカバー本体と1968/1969の2版の最後に追加されていた彼の映画に関する資料をまとめた小冊子が、同じく布貼りのスリップケースに収められている。
あの時代を歩いたフランクの目、それら写真があの時代の匂いとともにあの時代のインクと紙で刷られた写真集。というのとはもう別物としてここに存在してる感じ。それでもこの限定版にも装丁以外にしっかりと価値がある。それは、映画の資料集となっている小冊子の裏表紙には1969年の再版に差し込む予定が間に合わず倉庫に眠ったままだったアレン・ギンズバーグの初版読後の寄稿文が原文のまま印刷されていること。彼もまたケルアック同様に土臭い言葉をシンプルに書くね。最高。

中国の写真雑誌「摄影世界」2024年9月号のストリートフォトや決定的瞬間をテーマにした特集欄で8ページを使って紹介されました。 他にフィーチャーされている写真家はブレッソンやウェブやピンカソフらマグナムフォトのメンバーやジョエルやヘレンら。もう一つの特集はオリンピック。こちらはサーファーのあのシーンや陸上のあのシーンなどニュースでシェアされまくった写真がほとんど載ってます。中国語は読めないけど、写真の「読み応え」たっぷり。いやぁ、最高にホットな写真雑誌でした。
