To Midoriya, the sarcasm was unappreciated but understandable, so he didn’t judge the other too harshly there. While he’d be happy to talk about his past, the fact he’d have to stop at would be when he was first introduced to the League. When his ideals were twisted and shifted away, when he was being used. He’d have to keep that under lock and key for the time being. After all, dragging Shinsou into those problems may well put him at risk.
Steadily his gaze returned to his classmate as he spoke. “Brainwashing…?” His question was mumbled, more to himself than anything. More in the way of keeping that thought in his head. So, Shinsou had a quirk that people wouldn’t look fondly on right out of the gate? So…he could understand a bit? Understand, while clearly having a much better grasp on the situation than Midoriya did.
It made sense though. Shinsou would’ve lived a long while with that quirk. He had time to sort out his ideals. Midoriya only just got his recently, and was still trying to decide if he could ever erase the stain of evil that it had upon it. “That…that’s not what I meant. Sorry.” His eyes once again found their way to the floor. “I just…don’t know how I could use it fully without it becoming an issue at some point.” He sighed, dragging a hand through his mess of hair. When had he last managed to get a solid night’s sleep? “That doesn’t make sense either, does it…? I want to be a hero. I’m going to be a hero no matter what people think. I’m just…I want to be the sort of hero that makes people feel safe. Not…” Scared. Worried. He wanted people to see him and feel that everything would be alright. So how would he do that with a stolen quirk?
“I think I get it more than you would think.” Worrying about it becoming an issue? Yeah, Shinsou knew that feeling well. He could remember how his so called friends would react when he confessed his dream of being a hero. They’d say the same kind of thing. What kind of hero would someone like that be? It was a quirk for a villain. It was a quirk to be abused and used to gain power. Shinsou knew that well. He knew once people learned how his quirk worked, half of them hesitated to talk to him at all. Of course, at UA it was different, but Shinsou understood.
Eyeing Midoriya, Shinsou debated how honest he wanted to be. He didn’t like explaining what he dealt with, not fully at least. He felt it made him look like someone who needed pity. He didn’t need any pity. However, he did want to help. “Use it fully and let it become an issue. All of the teachers here know the details of my quirk and have never had a problem with it. There are heroes who aren’t as favored as others and they’re still good heroes. Rumor has it Endeavor’s an asshole to most of his fans, but people like him and he could kill hundreds of people easily.”
Shinsou rubbed at the back of his neck. “I know people will be scared of me because of my quirk. Most people who hear the details of it hesitate when talking to me after. The way to make people feel safe is to show all the good you can do with a quirk like that. Anyone who thinks otherwise is just a chance to prove them wrong or some sappy bullshit like that.”
