The moment she laid eyes on her former decoy, Padmé couldn't help herself, she embraced Sabé.

"Everything has gone so horribly wrong... please tell me you don't hate me, I don't have anyone else I can turn to." She whispered as tears burned Padmé's eyes.

"I need your help."

"Listen to me --" Sabé braced the slender shoulders of in front of her after their embrace and looked into the queen's senator's eyes.

"I can't imagine a single galaxy in which I would ever hate you."

Any citizen on Naboo hated to see their herald cry, but it was particularly poignant to those who served so close to her for years.

"What happened in the Senate meeting?" Her boots touched ground only an hour and rumblings about traveled through the Senate Hall. Although the meetings were public domain, Sabé didn't trust the documented version slotted into viewing archives.

"The war is over, but so is the Republic..." Never in her wildest dreams did Padmé think this would ever happen.

"We're being reorganized into and empire with Palpatine at the head of it all as emperor." She knew she didn't have to tell her former handmaiden how disastrous that would be.

"Come back to the apartment with me? We need to talk."

There was a time when her face was projected to the furthest reaches of the galaxy, so being recognized wasn't a surprise.

"I am." Some days she wished it wasn't so that she could go back in time and convince her eight year old self to pursue poetry instead of politics.

Every decision she'd ever made had led her here, heartbroken, separated from her children, and in hiding.

thank you so much for giving me life blood 💜 at the time you sent this I was working on a show! ironically, we are doing that show again right now! I've been thinking about re-reading EKJ books but... can I take all the crying I will do 😅

"That's a very silly thing to do, Padmé." She always trusted the youngest queen of Naboo, even when they kept secrets from each other. It was more out of necessity than honesty. But out here among the Tatooine slavers and hardened criminals? Even with all of her training, the years of honing her instincts into knowing exactly where her double was any moment, she could be swept up into the alley shadows faster than the handmaiden could turn to see. "Trusting people out here means letting your guard down. You can't do that, no blind faith, not even around me."

Padmé understood what her former handmaiden meant, it was for her own safety.

But Sabé had been with her since they were fourteen years old, she couldn't help trusting her best friend implicitly. Sabé had never and would never put her in harms way intentionally.

"Sounds lonely if you ask me."
