there is slight hesitation && he finds his thoughts become lost, incapable of establishing riposte ; these are not words unfamiliar to him, but refuting those dauntless enough to speak them becomes difficult when the person expressing such concern is a friend . he understands they all mean well, that there is reason enough that he continues to hear the same allegations, but he knows what he wants && can have, is cunning in that sense. if he didn’t want to be with emily, he is not so incompetent that he couldn’t end a relationship that did more harm to him than good if he realised it ( which he believes has not become manifest yet ) .
