Ann Taylor's got it's Eye on the Prize
Last night, I attended the Ann Taylor Preview Party at Beauty & Essex with my close friend, celeb-stylist Keshia Crosby. Like J Crew, Ann Taylor is making a concerted and successful effort to up its style game, most notably in the accessories and shoes department. I loved the lockets and platform black heels. The booties were as well-conceived/crafted as anything out there. Keep up the good work, Annie.
Also, in attendence were Briget Moynahan (looking better than she's looked in years) and the super cool Maria Bello.

B. I don't believe Anna Wintour needs any introduction (especially to this crowd) - but for the sake of consistency - Anna is the iconic editor of US Vogue and Bee is her equally fashionable and front row-concious daughter.

YSL and the Met: Downtown meets Uptown
Last night, YSL hosted the season premiere of Rossini's Le Comte Ory. The event was an all-night, cross-Manhattan affair - kicking-off with drinks at the Met's Grand Tier and ending with late-night at the downtown haunt, Bunker Club. The crew included Ashley Olsen and Mary-Kate Olsen in sunglasses by The Row (understood you've got to promote your line, but this is a harsh look even for you two), Claire Danes and her cutie-pie hubby Hugh Dancy, Lou Reed, JT's secret-love Olivia Munn and more.
My skeletons will pack quite nicely into this bag...
Carrying a big bag is a casuality of the war that is living in NYC, but at least we have options like above to lug around 15 lbs of survival gear in style.
This "satchel" from Alexander Wang's 2011 Spring Collection reminds me of some YSL styles of late (I'm a big fan of both).

Thakoon gets down with the Londontown Funky Set.
Earlier this week, London "it girls" (ie. young, skinny, & distantly related to the royal family) Poppy Delevingne and Mary Charteris (Daphne Guinness's neice) threw Thakoon Panichgul a simple get-together among friends in the basement of the Soho House and it looks like they had a good time. Thakoon was in town for the Net-a-Porter Trunk Show of his Fall 2011 collection (is this the way of the future?), so like any self-respecting designer, he had to throw in a little socialite party time.
Why didn't I post an image that includes little Thakoon, the guest of honor, you ask? Because this guy's hat and hair are just screaming for a blog post.

A More Modest Giselle for those in the Middle-East
Two versions of the H&M Spring campaign will hit the streets: a. featuring Giselle in pastel jumpsuits and hippie-gear (for the morally-suspect westerners) and b. featuring Giselle in pastel jumpsuits and hippie-gear and tight white undershirts ("to better align the campaign with the sensibilities of the [Dubai] market").
Note to LVMH: Hermès is not a toaster-oven.
To quote Jerry MaGuire (speaking to Rod "No, I am not Hootie" Tidwell), "It wasn't always about the money, right. Right?" The family-owned Hermès is not quite ready to "sell-out" to the luxury conglomerate known as LVMH (LVMH group, Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton).
Hermès CEO Patrick Thomas explained to the New York Times, "There is a part of our world that is playing on abundance, on glitz and glamour...And there is another part that is concentrated on refinement, and basically making beautiful objects. We don't want to be a part of this financial world which is ruining companies and dealing with people like they are goods or raw materials. It's not a financial fight, because we would lose that. It's a cultural fight."
Fact is that the more financed-minded hands involved, the more diluted the work. Sure, it's a business and everything has a price, but...
