my ideas and inspo for art has been pretty thin right now, so I had a friend pick a random palette by name only (they didn't get to see the colors) and made something based on that. might do a few more if it helps the brain get going again
I happen to be the storyteller for Rokuro, and I like to think that I've seen both version of this from the character. For example, the time that he flew his sphere up alongside a pirate ship and saw the cannon flap open, a firedust cannon alight, and he said "Defensive maneuvers" and flew straight into it without changing course.
I have separated the two versions for your convenience as well. Also I think this is a record for speed.

So, originally, when I had heard who my assignment was, I was pumped. Marcy is a player in the game I ST, so immediately I went through my mental highlight reel for her March Lord and her shenanigans. I wasn't eager to have to be drawing a kangaroo familiar, but sometimes you have to move outside of your comfort zone. I braced myself, settling on a probable scene, then headed over to the Secret Santa journal to grab references.
You can probably guess by the lack of kangaroo that I have not drawn a March Lord.
I've known Marcy a long time, and I expected that some of her other characters might have been in the journal, but I didn't expect that the one character I knew literally nothing about would be the only one listed.
Granted, most of the time for Secret Santa, you don't have context for the other person's character, but I was so close! There had to be some way I could glean some insight to make this gift super special.
Of course.
I know Marcy's wife.
Turns out, I don't know anything about this character because she's from a one-on-one game, but Marcy's wife knows who the other player is. She does some sleuthing of her own, getting in touch with that player, and sends me the description of an introductory scene, with the following image as inspiration.

Though, as described, it didn't really lean into the body horror stuff that give liminals their charm(s), it was too great of a jumping off point not to use. I thank the other player for providing so much to work with,
I should have known that the sanctity of Secret Santa would extend two degrees separate of anyone actually involved. Bad opsec on me.
And then I took entirely too long putting it all together. But, during all that time, my conspirators allege to have kept everything under wraps, so I had to give them all this credit. Frankly, it was Too Silly of a situation to keep to myself.

you can't overlook or overstate the fact that a large part of the reason the world is crumbling simply is: the people in charge are too stupid to maintain the illusions that hid the hypocrisy anymore
like, the people in charge are pants-shittingly stupid. AI stupid. in fact the mass bet on AI is a huge reveal of how stupid all the people in charge are. its greatest service to the world was revealing that all these people are so stupid that them getting up and breathing everyday is nothing short of a miracle
probably all they had to do was like... nothing. just don't become catastrophically worse. nope. couldn't manage it
Seren is adorable, and as a purple lover I was excited to paint both sets of her lovely eyes. I’ve never given a doll such a natural face up before, so I hope I did her justice!
I did make her black and purple outfit as well, and will send that along with her, but I HAD to do a wedding outfit photo shoot.
As it is her wedding attire (and I am a sucker for details), I made her gown slightly fancier with a decorative stitch from my sewing machine. Her veil was made with another decorative stitch, and then I sewed on some gold beads for glam. It also has a tiny bent wire comb to help it stay on her head
Her hair style is her every day one as I made the other outfit as well, and it’s been glued in place. She does have both of her tattoos, and if I can track down some spare black hands I can send her with “gloves” you can swap on as well
Technical notes: She’s a Monster High G3 Cupid. I shrank her head, lengthened her lower arms with sculpting, and swapped her lower legs for that of an older Disney Descendants doll as they longer. I made her hair wefts off of brushed acrylic yarn, glued them to her head and styled them. She’s fully repainted and sealed with a brush on sealant.
All of the fabric is thrifted. Dress is based on a Requiem Art Designs pattern that I tweaked to get the shape I wanted

When presented with opportunity to draw man with excessively long hair I could not resist. I read the description of anima and straight away thought of sun dancing over water, so while it is not an anima itself it is my polite nod to its brilliance.
The moment that I read that Celedon Snapdragon's eyes glow green when she is mad, I kinda knew that I had to do. The idea for it came very quickly to me, and I wanted to capture something that hey, might be Black Claw Style. I also really loved the dolls that were shared for reference (they're so damn cool).

Hating on AI and its users is a service to society. We genuinely need to make using AI as disgusting and inappropriate as smoking cigarettes in public places became. This stuff is an insult to life, degrading to users, bad for workers, corrosive to thought, poisonous for politics, and toxic for the environment.
The era of "just let people enjoy stuff" is over. We're thinking critically about what we're consuming from here on. Get in, loser.
